Don't do anything dumb, tempting though it might be. There really is a God and God's law is in force. The pervert will do a slow roast in the hell that he has created for himself. You have things to do and don't need to waste any time serving time.

In JW Dogma: John Outweighs Jesus
by Room 215 inthe book of revelation, purported to have been written by the apostle john in his tenth decade of life, and one of the most contoversial entries into the biblical canon (so many early fathers opposed its inclusion, it made it in by the ``skin of its teeth") and full of arcane imagery and so convoluted that that it's been the cause of often bitter sectarian wrangling over its interppretation for 1900 years, seems for the wtbts to outweigh the words of jesus in its formulation of dogma.. consider how the insistence of the literal application of the 144,000, for example, has distorted -- and vitiated the impact of-- such plain-language parables as the sheep and the goats, the ten virgins and the other sheep, not to mention the influence of this book on their worldview.
in short, this one book has become for jws a prism through which to peer into the rest of the bible.
that's the view from two one five; what say you?.

Undisfellowshiped
Given that the greek in the book of Revelation and the greek in the Gospel of John is a different type and level, it is very unlikely that the authors were the same John. In fact, it is very unlikely that any of the apostles wrote anything. It was not uncommon in that day to ascribe a writing to one of the apostles in order to gain acceptance for it. I believe it was Polycarp, Bishop of Asia Minor, who received a letter from one of his congregations indicating that they had a gospel written by the Apostle Peter and asking for permission to use it. He replied that anything written by Peter would be o.k. to use. However, on a subsequent visit, he had an opportunity to review the writing and branded it a gnostic heresy.

ROOM 215
I agree with you. We would all be better off if the early church fathers had decided to exclude that little "piece of work".

Prayer? Why Bother?
by ChakkaConned indid it seem that jw's truly valued and promoted the avenue of prayer as a real force in one's life?
when you *sinned*, it was like you needn't bother jehovah with your pathetic self through prayer and a one on one with the almighty and receive peace and complete forgiveness via this precious privilege god provides.
oh no....you should talk with the elders and let them handle your pathetic, sinful self and leave jehovah and jesus out of it.

Very insightful reply regarding the forgiveness of GB members. However, we can take comfort in that realization that the remembrance of those wrongs will likely be painful to them. Too bad that the same principle applies to us as well.

I'm with LB and Dragon on this one. I was there flying AC 130 Gunships. Our Rules of Engagement were being dictated right out of the White House. The only thing we cared about was protecting those poor guys in the fire support bases throughout the country. I came very close to a court martial because my crew refused to leave a fire support base unprotected so a flight of B-52s could bomb some empty jungle nearby that we had already checked out. My Squadron suffered some heavy losses and I had some very close calls. We all knew that it was a no win situation as the South Vietnam government was just as corrupt as that of North Vietnam. Of course, it made a lot of money for the arms manufacturers. We developed some pretty neat weapons that came in handy in the Gulf War, but it just wasn't worth it.

Sorry to tell you, but losing altitude quickly does not cause you to pass out. Losing cabin pressure at 39,000 ft for a few minutes will cause you to pass out if you don't have those little oxygen mask "danglees" coming down from the overhead rack. Not to worry, however, as the pilots have very good oxygen masks and will lose altitude quickly in order to keep the passengers conscious.
Passenger mile stats can be a bit misleading. The only fair way to measure your chances of getting killed in an aviation accident would be to take the average number of people flying in a particular year divided into the average number of fatalities in aviation in a particular year(including deaths of people on the ground). The figures for commercial aviation will be much lower than those of general aviation. I doubt if either would even come close to the figure cited by the WT.
In more than 4000 hours of military aviation, I only lost an engine one time. Not too big a concern since I was flying mostly 4 engine transports. Well, there were those 400 hours when folks were trying to shoot me down but that event is not common to the average passenger.
