I have a CD with both Dvorak's New World Symphony(#9) and Smetana's Moldau. It is one of my favorites. My all time favorite, however, is Chopin's Fantasy Impomptu (A section of that became I'm always chasing rainbows).

BS Detector Sounds Alarm
by Amazing infirst, metatron, i am not seeking to detract from your post ... but the poster named "hamas" has gone a little far, and i want to isolate his/her comments under the "truth" detector.

Good posts all. We should expect a lot of "scapegoating" by the Islamic world for things which are largely the result of their own culture. It is so much easier for the Mullahs to point their finger at the West as the source of all their problems. Just as Hitler scapegoated the Jews, the muslims will see the west as responsible for all the turmoil and poor economic conditions. Can you imagine what their word would be like if they had no oil? I agree that the Palestinians were treated most unfairly by the Jews as the nation state of Israel was being created. It is a Jewish myth, for the most part, that the Palestinians left Israel of their own accord. Many were "invited" to leave at the point of a gun.

129 Passangers Sucked from Plane
by Francois indid any of you see this story in the london times, i believe it was?
a russian-built cargo plane was taking zimbabweian army troups along with their families to a new location.
there was a catastrophic failure in the pressurization system which blew off the two giant cargo doors in the back of the plane creating a gigantic vacuum which sucked out every passanger on board, 129 people, at 7,000 feet - about a mile and a quarter up over congo i think it was.. this story made my skin crawl.. francois

Not to get too technical, but this was an "explosive decompression" at 33,000. The high pressure air inside the plane rushed out to the low pressure air outside. If you are not strapped in, you are going to move with it. Most were probably sitting on the floor of the plane unrestrained. We used to haul Vietnamese soldiers and their families (along with goats and sundry livestock) that way in the late 60's. The plane was likely overloaded and flying tail low and possibly climbing. People crowd on till there is no more room and nobody makes a manifest or checks weight. The airplane has a lousy safety record and was probably poorly maintained (If they maintain their airplanes like they run their agriculture program).

Smoker or Non Smoker?
by JH indo you smoke?.
would you live with a smoker, if you are non smoker?
i wouldn't be able to smell cigarette smoke at home nor in my car.

Non smoker now, but smoked for 30 years while in college, military, and afterward. Cigarettes were cheap then. Quit about 17 years ago after three tries. Find it very offensive now. Don't know how the wife put up with it for all those years.

We cruised from Alaska to Vancouver on Princess last summer. It was great! My wife wants to go back again this summer. They took really good care of us. We were on Carnival to Cozumel the summer before. It was o.k., but not up to the standard of Princess. We enjoyed the two dress up nights on the 7 day cruise and the one dress-up night on the 5 day Carnival Cruise. Some of the excursions are cheaper when purchased off the boat. It can be a bit riskier, however. I highly recommend the Alaska cruise on Princess. Holland America, now owned by Princess, was having a lot of trouble with Norwalk virus last summer. That can really spoil a trip. I would stay away from the Casinos. They don't have any competition, so don't have to give very good odds on anything. We like the early seating because it allowed us to get to the shows.

Non Christian Theists
by logansrun inare there any non-christian theists on this board?
i ask because it seems that there are two polarities for the members here: either some form of evangelicalized christian or atheist.
but, has anyone managed to go a different route?

I no longer consider myself a Christian in the fundamentalist sense in that I don't believe that Jesus died for our sins. Nor do I consider that he was anymore divine than I am. More enlightened? Of course! I have taken several tests and come out classified as "New thought" or Buddist. I think of Jesus as my Yoga Master.

lost and searching
I agree with you about the book of revelation. It certainly was not written by the same person that wrote the book of John. It is in a different stype of greek used by the common people. Perhaps that is why many of the early church fathers did not want to include it in the bible canon as they did not consider it worthy. Much of it does seems to be borrowed from Daniel and other books.
If your boss is going to be in the area, he should not miss the opportunity to visit Ephesus on the western shore of Turkey. It is in remarkable condition and is a very interesting tour. Fortunately, it was under several feet of silt when the British controlled the area or they would have hauled everything back to London. . The palace of Agemenmon on the greek mainland and nearby sites is also worthwhile. I was disappointed in Corinth as there is little left.

I knew that you would enjoy Illusions. It is one of my all time favorites. I often go back and read the preface and excerpts from the Master's Notebook contained therein. One of my favorite snippets is:
" The bond that links your true family is not one of blood, but of respect and joy in each other's life.
Rarely do members of one family grow up under the same roof. "
Another is:
" Learning is finding out what you already know. Doing is demonstrating that you know it. Teaching is reminding others that they know just as well as you. You are all learners, doers, teachers."

Sorry about your mom's stroke. My mother had one as well. She is paralyzed on one side and is therefore immobile and incontinent. Fortunately, her speech centers were not affected that much. She had been living an independent life in her own home. She went through rehab, but it didn't help that much. She requires a great deal of assistance, but is still mentally sharp. We finally found a really nice Assisted Living Center. It is expensive, however. Mother is a retired school teacher and her pension helps to cover part of the cost. You didn't say how old your mother is, but medicare will provide an electric scooter which helps her get around. Since your mother is in a Salvation Army rehab center, I gather that her funds are limited. If she has to go on medicaid, the outlook is pretty grim because of the government cut-backs in that area. The Salvation Army does wonderful work. I let them draft my bank account every month. If your mother can't make it at home, they have some very good assisted living centers, but the waiting list is likely long. Depending on how she does in rehab, you may need to make some modifications in her home (wheelchair ramps, support rails, wider door, bathroom modes, etc.). Stroke victims who require a lot of assistance can wear out friends and family pretty fast. I wouldn't count on much help from the WTS. They seem to be more interested in magazine sales than in helping their aged and infirm.

Time for me 2 say goodbye
by Iron Eagle inyeah i've decided to say goodbye folks.. i've had some interesting discussions on this forum, yet i will cease to operate as an active member as of now.
i came to this conclusion via a number of reasons; .
(a) many people on this board have had such a bad experience as a witness that they have decided to deviate so much from the bible and what it tells us.

You can look the world over and you will never find God. That is, until you begin to look in the place where He is; WITHIN. The biggest stumbling block to the awareness of His presence is JUDGEMENT. LET IT GO! Good luck on your journey! You can't fail you know.
