Very insightful! Just because our perspective is limited, we assume that God's is too. I recall once flying low level through the mountains in West Virginia. On a very winding road in a mountainous area, I saw two cars on opposite sides of the mountain traveling in opposite directions. With my perspective of some 1000 ft. in the air, I could predict with some certainty that they would meet in a few minutes. In effect, and even though I am bound by time just as they were, I saw their future because my perspective was not limited by the mountain.
second kings, we learn that menahem, leader of the israelites, smote all the people who refused to follow him and all the women therein that were with child he ripped up (2 kings 15:16).
later, in hosea, we learn that because the land of samaria rejected god, samaria shall become desolate; for she hath rebelled against her god: they shall fall by the sword: their infants shall be dashed in pieces, and their women with child shall be ripped up (hosea 13:16).
hosea decided to carry out gods vengeance on the people by killing the unborn babies carried by the heathen women.

Pehaps God doesn't do anything about the suffering in this world because HE/SHE didn't make this world and isn't responsible for it. Perhaps the responsibility to alleviate the suffering is ours. The appropriate question isn't "Why isn't God doing something?". The appropriate question is "Why aren't WE doing something?"
life is tough regardless of whether we were ever jws.
my own life has taken some twists and turns i did not expect or like ... and i have to focus all my attention now on getting my badly needed open-heart surgery or face death in about six months ... so in the next couple of days, i am making the last of three posts for a while ... then all my efforts will be aimed at getting better, and facing some issues in my life and making the best decisions possible for me and my family.
i decided to limit many activities because i tend to do too much and neglect some things that i should not ... this is not a good-bye post, but more of a long vacation post.

God isn't through with you yet! Have a speedy recovery.
ouch!!!
it seems established here that the general consensus is the jws have it wrong.
however, you guys, (most of you!
You are correct that the general consensus is that the JWs have it wrong. Unfortunately, what is proven to one may not be to another. We all have to come to our own truths the hard way. There is a wealth of experience on this board, and those willing to share that experience make it easier on those who follow.
tell me how a person could walk out of 23yrs of marriage and not think twice of family and grand kids, i left 5 years ago raised in it, abused, and molested in it me and my sisters for 18 years.
i stood up a year ago and told mario moreno and bob johnson its a crock a year ago this month, trust me.
thank god for barb, bill, and alan f they are good friends i was suppose to go with barb and joe to flordia this month but my wife thru a wrench in things, she told my 2 sons and dauhter she is going to have to quite associatng with them also cause they are apostate also.

Sometimes, after they leave, they discover that the JW support structure is not so great as they thought it would be. Don't be surprised if she decides to come back. Don't burn any bridges too quickly and insist on counseling with someone (non JW Professional who knows the cult) as a condition for coming home.

Perhaps the point is growth. In my experience, I have found that my spiritual growth is very limited when everything is going my way. I am perfectly content to be fat, dumb, and happy in my comfortable experience. Ah, but when things go wrong: I am impelled to make a change, to look at things differently, to question my values, to seek answers to my questions. I grow in the process. Look what happens to the children of rich folks who never have any problems to overcome, who never face any challenges. They typically turn out to be "duds" and a great disappointment to their parents. In my life, the impetus for change was when my wife decided to become a JW. I was a career Air Force officer. She also wanted to raise the kids as JWs. I had to make some major changes in my outlook and thinking if I wanted to stay in my marriage which I did. I had a lot of questions that needed answering. Perhaps our earthly experience is the only way that God can experience His creation; through us. You can be conscious of your real self through meditation. Jesus said, "the kingdom of God is within you". He appears to have been aware of his real self which may explain his saying,"I have meat to eat that you know not of". Of course the christian religion being taught today doesn't appear to have very much to do with what Jesus taught. Many on this board would say, and rightly so, that religion is a "snare and a racket".

I don't disagree with your view of the bible. I find it chilling that "fundies" would view the actions cited as ordained by God. I very much suspect that the Hebrews practiced human sacrifice at some point in their history. The story of Abraham preparing to sacrifice Issac is included for a reason, and that reason is to announce that it is no longer acceptable to sacrifice the first born. BTW, the arabs believe that it wasn't Issac, but Ismael, that was to be the sacrifice. Since Ismael was first born, they are probably correct. The authors, however, wouldn't want to give the honor to one of their enemies.
my dad passed away at the hospital today after a lengthy illness.
he was 84 years old.
some of the folks here have known for awhile that he had been ill, and they have been very supportive.

My dad used to have a saying that fits this situation: "Don't put any effort into trying to teach a pig to sing. It wastes your time and annoys the pig." Of course, if the object is to annoy the pig......?
