It's the hubris of certainty, of knowing all the answers... I was like that too before I woke up! Looking back on who I was makes me cringe!

Living with Your Parents Well Into Adulthood the Norm?
by Sorry ini don't want to seem like a jerk.
i know full well economic times are not the greatest.
there's no shame in struggling and staying with your family until you're back on your feet.

I see it a lot these days among the general population, but I live in a part of the USA where median rent for a studio apartment is $2000 per month due to tech workers' insanely inflated salaries (a tech intern makes more than I do as a college educated social services professional). I remember reading a local news article about doctors being priced out of the same neighborhood my husband and I were priced out of in 2013. I can't imagine how JWs with little to no education could survive around here... maybe as cosmetologists or general contractors? Or by inheriting their dead parents' home that they paid off in the 1970s?
So assuming the tech industry doesn't implode, my daughter's options if she chooses a path like mine would be to move out and share a tiny apartment in a rough neighborhood with a friend (or multiple friends), or continue to live with us until she marries.
No shade thrown at young adults who would rather pay their parents rent and be safe and comfortable than live like I did before I moved in with my husband (then boyfriend), sharing a studio next door to a halfway house with drug dealers and prostitutes loudly peddling their wares in the alleyway under my roommate's and my 6th story window. If my parents weren't an abusive and an enabling pair of religious nut jobs I might have done the same.

Sergei isnt allowed to play violin, but Lindsey is!
by stuckinarut2 inso we all know that the gb have condemned the development of musical talents as shown in the latest movie of young sergei.. yet musical talents are a "gift from god" right??.
the gift of music could help inspire, uplift and "praise" him.
oh but , it could also distract a person and make them mix with "worldly" people... ah ha.... compare that to the mormons (lds).. they encourage musical skills!.

Wow, they keep on getting more and more restrictive with hobbies. It used to be that music was one of the few acceptable hobbies! When I was a pre-teen, I used to play kingdom melodies on my violin while one of the older sisters in my congregation accompanied me on piano and a middle-aged sister sang with her beautiful operatic soprano voice to entertain the friends at parties. Another sister would play classical guitar while her adorable little boys sang in harmony to amuse us. Looking back, it was rather dull because aside from a few catchy tunes, most of the music was pretty badly written, but it seemed like great fun at the time.

The best way for a witness to wake up, is to simply read the societies own older publications!
by stuckinarut2 inonce again the society is on a push to scare witnesses away from doing any research, or "stumbling" upon any "apostate" material (from workmates, neighbors, or online).
however, the most enlightening, mind blowing and eye opening things are found simple by reading the early publications themselves!.
read how ct russel, (the supposed channel god was using) had the most far fetched and laughable ideas, such as obtaining pivotal dates by measuring the pyramids of egypt!...

Ooh, this reminds me! When I was... I forget how old now, or even if I was in middle school or high school, Mom and I found a battered copy of Millennial Dawn in a used bookstore. We were really excited to take a look at some JW history, only to find such nonsense inside that we sort of looked at each other confusedly and shrugged.
For me, the publication that helped wake me up was the "Creator" book, the one with the nebula on the front. Does anyone remember that one? They were fixated on Fred Hoyle's crackpot theories in the early chapters and kept trying to science the shit out of the Bible with varying degrees of failure. I was a high schooler earning mostly Bs at the time, so hardly a mensa member, but even I knew I was reading complete and utter bullshit and the "logic" was just not there! When it became a book study book, it was sheer torture for me, ugh!

Disfellowshipped ex-wife Dies - Now What?
by snugglebunny init was a shock despite us being divorced for over 40 years.

I'm so sorry for your loss. :-( Every loss is different, so it might not feel this way for you, but I always take deaths harder when it's someone with whom I shared a difficult/ambivalent relationship. Be kind to yourself during this difficult time.
I never understood the logic that JWs shouldn't attend funerals for DF'd people, especially considering their belief that the dead are unconscious until resurrected. It would be a better "witness" to show some common decency for once and be there for the family of the deceased! What horrible people.
