So called "scholar", my reply was very short. The fact that you missed this important detail in my very short reply tells volumes. I also provided several clear contradictions like the 69.5 years vs 70.5 years in one of my previous posts. I'd have expected a reply about this but there was only silence Therefore I'll end my conversation.

Who really is the Faithful and Discreet Slave?
by Godlyman inif anyone were to come up to you claiming that they are the faithful and discreet slave, how would you go about proving them to be false, based upon scripture?.

Glad to know that you accept that Zechariah's two references to the 70 years were a past event or more precisely a completed past event that ended with the Exile and not an event that continues to the rebuilding of the Temple. which cannot be figured precisely as to the ending of Zechariah's 70 years claimed to be from 587-520-515 BCE.Go figure!
That's not what I said. I said "70 years just passed." -

Thus the text into English shows that the seventy years was a past event and not a present event awaiting an end.
Of course it's in the past. 70 years just passed. When your kid comes home and you say "where have you been these two hours", it's also a past event.

The New Living Translation shows the meaning of Zech 1:12 very clearly for those who have difficulties to understand this verse:
"Upon hearing this, the angel of the LORD prayed this prayer: “O LORD of Heaven’s Armies, for seventy years now you have been angry with Jerusalem and the towns of Judah. How long until you again show mercy to them?”"
The angel asked this two decades after they left Babylon why they are still not being shown mercy. So for the last 70 years until now (20 years after exile) they have not been shown mercy. If they were really 70 years in exile then this would mean 90 years no mercy. This is another hint why they can't have been 70 years in exile

I wish someone would have told me or gave me a hint many years ago that the 1914 teaching contains contradictions.
By just reading Jeremiah 25:12 it became immediately clear to me that the 70 years must have been fulfilled before the king was killed in 539. A king cannot be punished when he is already dead in 537, children can see this.
And from that on the list of contradictions I recognized just kept growing. It bothers me that I believed this and never took a close look at it.

One contradiction should be enough. How many contradictions does a JW need to obey God more than men?
1 Tim 6:20:
"Timothy, guard what has been entrusted to you, turning away from the empty speeches that violate what is holy and from the contradictions of the falsely called “knowledge." (NWT)
The Bible doesn't teach 1914. This teaching is full of contradiction.

Daniel 9:1,7 shows that the land including Jerusalem was inhabited by Jews before the exiled Jews returned from exile and set foot on the land.
Daniel 9:1 In the first year of Da·riʹus the son of A·has·u·eʹrus—a descendant of the Medes who had been made king over the kingdom of the Chal·deʹans
Daniel 9:7
7 To you, O Jehovah, belongs righteousness, but to us belongs shame as is the case today, to the men of Judah, the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and all Israel, those nearby and far away, in all the lands to which you dispersed them because they acted unfaithfully toward you.The land was not without inhabitants for 70 years. Now what does desolation exactly mean? That's a different topic.

Jeremiah 29:10: ‘When 70 years at Babylon are fulfilled, I will turn my attention to you, and I will make good my promise by bringing you back to this place.’ (NWT)
WT teaches that the 70 years were over on the day when the Jews arrived in Jerusalem. So Jehovah turned his attention to them to bring them back to Jerusalem when they are already in Jerusalem?
It shows the nonsensical teaching of the WT that the 70 years were over when they arrived in Jerusalem. The 70 years of serving Babylon were over before they left Babylon, before the king of Babylon was killed in 539 BCE, see Jeremiah 25:12. -

That the 70 years is a period of nations serving Babylon and not a period of exile is absolutely correct.
For argument's sake let's assume 70 years is the period of exile in Babylon. We know that the trip from Babylon to Jerusalem was about 4 months (Ezra 7:9). How long was the trip from Jerusalem to exile in Babylon? We don't know but it must have been a few months.
So the trip back and forth was at least 6 months. The WT says that they were in exile in Babylon for 70 years and that Jerusalem was destroyed for exactly 70 years too. If they were in exile in Babylon for 70 years, then Jerusalem was destroyed for at least 70.5 years. If Jerusalem was destroyed for exactly 70 years then they were 69.5 years or less in Babylon.
So which was it? Make up your mind if you believe that 70 years is not the period of nations serving Babylon.
There is so much more wrong about 70 years meaning 70 years exile in Babylon.

I found a good explanation of the faithful and discreet slave at https://beroeans.net/2020/05/15/examining-matthew-24-part-12-the-faithful-and-discreet-slave/
