Honestly most elders could care less about longtime inactive ones. Unless of course the CO or a still active family member inquires as to why the inactive person hasnt been visited. This is particularly true if the still active family are "bigshots" or prominent elders. This is a sad but true fact, though no still believing elder will ever admit to it.

Do you think it bothers elders, to know they can not control us now?
by free2beme inlast summer i went to a wedding of a relative that is a witness.
we're not disfellowshipped or disassociated, but have been inactive for about ten years.
because no one mentions our history to others, very few members of our relatives congregations, even know we used to be witnesses.

Leolaia I agree with what you are saying, what about even more critical doctrines that are a matter of llife or death (if you profess to be a christian). For example the scripture in John 20:28,29... what is the WTS understanding of this:
***
w92 1/15 p. 23 What Do the Scriptures Say About "the Divinity of Christ"? ***Addressing the resurrected Jesus, the apostle Thomas exclaimed: "My Lord and my God!" (John 20:28) This and other accounts were "written down that [we] may believe that Jesus is the Christ the Son of God." And Thomas was not contradicting Jesus, who had sent His disciples the message: "I am ascending to . . . my God and your God." (John 20:17, 30, 31) So Thomas did not think that Jesus was Almighty God. Thomas may have addressed Jesus as "my God" in the sense of Christ’s being "a god," though not "the only true God." (John 1:1; 17:1-3) Or by saying "my God," Thomas may have been acknowledging Jesus as God’s Spokesman and Representative, even as others addressed an angelic messenger as though he were Jehovah.—Compare Genesis 18:1-5, 22-33; 31:11-13; 32:24-30; Judges 2:1-5; 6:11-15; 13:20-22.
Now the jury is still out to me on the whole Jesus is god thing but look at the reasoning.. or lack of I should say in trying to explain this verse. I mean come on... Thomas may have addressed.. Thomas may have been acknowledging.. So they do this even with things that are VERY important. Those bastages!

Worse yet, religious teachers sometimes lead people to think that God is hardhearted. How so? When tragedy strikes, they say that it is God’s will. In effect, such teachers blame God for the bad things that happen. Is that the truth about God? What does the Bible really teach? James 1:13 answers: "When under trial, let no one say: ‘I am being tried by God.’ For with evil things God cannot be tried nor does he himself try anyone." So God is never the source of the wickedness you see in the world around you. (Job 34:10-12) Granted, he does allow bad things to happen. But there is a big difference between allowing something to happen and causing it.
Do you agree with the highlighted statement? Why do many countries have laws stating that if you stand by and allow something to happen when you could stop it you could still be charged with a crime. Not sure if this is necessarily the same thing but just wondering what your thoughts were.

Tristram thanks for the catch, too many to keep up with. This is just one paragraph from a WT. Blondie's review is full of them when she does the study articles.

Measuring your spirituality
by architect in.
where in the scriptures do we find that a persons spirituality is judged by how many meetings, how many field service hours and comments one makes?
(this is practiced in the congregations in case you didnt know)

Since I am still an active JW this has got to be one of my biggest pet peeves. JWs are so judgemental when it comes to these things... if you pioneer you are a revered, the elders are the worst at this judging thing, they judge each other too. I can't tell you how many times in elders meetings that its brought up that elders dont comment enough or arent out supporting f***ing weekend witnessing. So fu**ing passive agressive too since its always "certain elders dont do this or do that.." Unscriptural, unloving, unchristian...take your pick. -

I will add this to freedomlover's post in that after Lots wife and presumably (TM) his future sons inlaws died they actually get poppy drunk and then have sex with him. This tells me that Lots whole household was whacked out. Perhaps his daughters were molested as children and when they went to the tribal elders they told them to wait on Jehovah instead of exposing their fathers perversion before all. "Evidently Lot's daughters were affected by PTSD and reacted to their mother's and fiancee's losses by acting out against their father in effect "raping" him. Surely a lover of Jehovah would never participate in such blatant acts of loose conduct. Rather they should have sought out the advice of an elder to deal with their stressful condition."

Here
I have two daughters who have never had intercourse with a man. Please, let me bring them out to you.—Gen. 19:8.Some may ask, ‘Why would Lot offer his daughters to the mob?’ Instead of assuming that his motives were bad, why not consider some possibilities? First of all, Lot no doubt was aware of how Jehovah had protected Sarah, the wife of Abraham, Lot’s uncle. (Gen. 12:11-20) It is possible that Lot had faith that his daughters could be similarly protected. Significantly, Jehovah through his angels did intervene. Lot may also have been trying to shock or confuse the men. He may have believed that his daughters would not be desired by the crowd because of the homosexual lust of the Sodomites. (Jude 7) In addition, the young women were engaged to men of the city. (Gen. 19:14) Lot may have hoped that by reason of family ties, some men in that mob would speak up in defense of his daughters. A mob thus divided would not be nearly so dangerous. w 2/1/05 11, 15, 16b
"Consider, no doubt, may also, may have believed, may have hoped" and this is just one paragraph from a watchtower.
Are we supposed to buy this explanation for this really strange passage in the scriptures? In fact if you really look at it they dont really offer any explanation at all just a bunch of possibilities. So the FDS can't with any degree of certainty explain this simple account and yet we're suppposed to trust their doctrines on ressurection, death, the afterlife, Jesus prescence, etc, etc??

Pink slips at Bethel
by beavis indoes anyone still have any friends at bethel?
it seems that there is a massive layoff at bethel in all three american complexes.
the layoff is supposed to affect everyone between the ages of 35-50 or maybe 60. i feel sorry for persons who chose to stay there, they gave up going to college, possible job offers or making a decent amount of money, having children, the list can go on and on.

I guess the market for cleaning personel will soon be inundated in the US. Seriously though, this is totally unloving for them to do this to people who, as was already mentioned, gave up their prime working years to slave for a lie. I am so glad I was outta there while relatively young.

In my area the hall's are loaded with BMW's, Benz's, Porches, Volvo's... most unusual I have seen, I wouldn't necessarily say it was exotic, a visiting speaker showed up once last summer with a Maybach 57. I am guessing that he didnt regret getting the truth after getting a college education.
