  The U.S. now has over 1,000,000 average publishers - Why?

  strange increase in u.s. publishers

  over the last few months there has been an unusual increase in publishers in the united states, but baptisms have been falling.

  when baptism rates are compared to the 2004/05 service year, only 4 out of the six months shown are higher than 2005/06 service year.

  Blondie,

  If Joe Publisher gives me his report for 3 months say he gives me Jan, Feb, March and I am doing the report for April (though it was already due on the May 6th) all that takes place is he is counted as 4 publishers submitting a report. There are only totals submitted to the Branch no individuals.

  So say I have 66 publishers but Joe gives me 4 months worth. Then instead of 66 publishers I submit a total of 70. This is per the instructions on the form to submit reports. Does it make sense I dont know, but this is the way WT wants it done. In fact reports are being submitted online now in some areas of the U.S. mine included.

  I agree with Blondie.. that is how other elders are selected. Most of the time to be appointed an elder all the MS needs to do is go to every meeting, do every assignment he's asked to do, go out every single weekend in the ministry, and if he is single then pioneering helps him get appointed before age 30. If married with kids then generally 30ish is the age he will be appointed unless that cong has a need or he is somehow pioneering. Also helps if you kiss arse a lot especially during CO visit.

  Do Individual JWs Pay For The Publications They Distribute?

  excuse my ignorance, and i've read on boards about the us not selling/inviting contributions issue, but do individuals jws in effect pay for the publications they give out?

  if so, is that only for their magazines or for hardback books as well?

  how is this organised, please?.

  Blondie I hate it when the WT tries make something that was totally done for other reasons seem to benefit the R&F..

  I stopped donating for the lit many yrs ago and stopped asking for one from "householders" even longer ago.

  Did Your Congregation Ever Get Away With Doing Things Until The CO's Visit?

  i remember knowing that we could have a "large gathering" in the circuit before the new circuit overseer came on the scene and this was during the beginning of the "no large gatherings" edict.

  when the co had his meeting with the elders in the circuit, he chastised more than a few and even made an example ot of one somewhat "prominent" elder by demoting his duties in the circuit to send a message not to play around and try to get away with things because "mothr" is always watching......anything that you got away with?

  I would mark something somewhat consistent with their previous numbers before the CO's visit so that everything could be handed to him on time.

  Did the same Minimus....the WT's whole report every year that they show so proudly in the yearbook is based on false information. Millions of hrs... yeah right!

  never even considered that someone might not be honest

  I will give you an example that has happened many a time... Sis or Bro will give their time but I loose the paper its written on.. I call them up and they give it to me again. Later I find the original paper with the original report on it and its completely different for that same month. My conclusion: They aren't being honest with what they did. Its happened way to many times and often with the same people to be a fluke thing.

  in the mid 1990s the wtbts backed-off just a little bit on its stance about higher education publically while it was still discouraged unofficially.

  now, all of a sudden they are publically clamping back down.

  and coincidentally they are clamping back down just as ben schroeder was entering his final year or years at columbia law school.
