The composition of elder bodies seems to vary from place to place but one thing is common in all areas I think: There are very few up and comings. In my hall we have so much "dead weight" its uncanny. Nobody is reaching out and nobody wants to either besides young, I wanna prove something pioneers or MTS grads and there arent many of them to begin with. Its going to be very interesting when my 30-40somethings generation gets older and there are not many young elders to fill in for us.

Loss of Elders
by metatron inlarge numbers of jw congregations are going to be trouble long before they lose their last elder to death or resignation.. most congregations i know have at least one - and often several - elders who can barely function at all, due to illness, old age.
or just plain inability to accomplish anything.
the society seems loathe to remove these men, despite their 'elder in name only'.

Ones who have their own ideas on how the congregation would work better with more joy, these ones are dismissed as having independant ideas
Is anyone really, truly joyful being a JW? Honestly? I do know what you mean though, the ones who are sincere and really want to help people are overlooked a lot.

Every congregation has useless elders... and you are correct Metatron, the Service Dept. refuses to delete them for whatever reason. We have one who is in his 70's and refuses to do anything, he doesnt even like to offer prayer or read for the B/S. Then there are 2 elders in there 40's and the rest are in their 30's. I must confess that over the past oh 4-5 yrs I have become a shirker myself because I could careless anymore.

I happen to be in fairly regular contact with some bethelites and the buzz around bethel with the rank and file bethelites is that its just as Blondie said, simplification. The other poster that said it was because of modernization and lack of need for workforce was also right on the money. This letter is a farce and if it was written by a real bethelite then this person needs to lay off the crack a bit.

Please don't take offence at this ...
by Joe Grundy ini'm not a jw, never have been, and in no danger of becoming one.. having read several of the wt mags and publications (and many more extracts on this and other sites) they come across to me as being very patronising in tone and full of pseudo-scholarship, misquoted (or unnamed) sources, references taken out of context, mis-translations, etc.
i'm aware of jw 'teaching' on the subject of higher education for its members (i.e.
not a good or necessary thing) so i can understand why many jws raised in it may not challenge the publications.

Educated and also Intelligent people do accept what the WTS says and many, many still believe it too. Who knows whats going on in their minds but surely we can see the point that intellect and education have have little to do with becoming a JW in many cases. I don't consider myself a genius but I am not stupid either and though raised in the "truth" I really did believe it for a long time. Religion is emotional and emotions make people do rash, foolish things sometimes. Afterall "Religion is the opium of the people" drug additcts don't behave like themselves either and that includes intelligent, educated drug addicts as well.

I think in some cases it depends on the area of the country you are in. I live in a part of the U.S. that is well off and filled with professionals. In the congregations that I have been in there were doctors, pharmacists, nurses, teachers all who came into the org after getting their carreers. These are highly intelligent, educated people who bought the lies of the WTS so I dont really feel that education has much to do with it, nor intelligence for that matter. Its a complicated indoctrinating process that toys with your emotions and perception of reality.

Who did you rather be with in the Field Service?
by JH ini never wanted to go in the field service with an elder, even a ms, or any super zealous person who would knock at the front and back door just to make sure there was no one home.. i offered the magazines and that's about it.
if a person was curious, i would add more, but i was the take it or leave it type.
hello and goodbye.

Right now my wife since she doesnt care about it either, she just wont admit it to me. She's one of those non practicing JW's.. believes in the doctrines but doesn't like to actually live the lifestyle. Funny thing is, if I ever told her how I really felt she'd label me an apostate probably.

I found this and am in total agreement. Feel free to answer the Questions.
by jw inregardless of how you feel about jehovah's organization--the true religion, one thing for sure, you will not escape the almighty jehovah's judgement right along with satan the devil and his destructive organization.
how will you save yourself and those who follow you...?
it's ashame that your energies could not be put to a more positive use.

May 28--Four years since Dateline's JW sex abuse program aired. Results?
by AndersonsInfo insunday, may 28, 2006, is the fourth anniversary from when a threshold was crossed into uncharted waters.
on may 28, 2002, the u.s. television news program, dateline, publicized to millions of viewers the facts about watchtower's deceitful child abuse policies which protect pedophiles who target and molest jws' vulnerable children.
subsequently, this subject caught the interest of media throughout the world who, through careful investigation, substantiated the allegations made on dateline.

That show show got me on this board. Though I am not physically free from this cult I am mentally and spiritually free at last...
