I have to confirm but I believe the changes are there.. I will not be using the new book, I will bring my pre-underlined in instead.

Good news: No longer an elder; Bad news: Disappointed wife
by doinmypart inmy wife & i have a good relationship except when it comes to things dealing with the wts.
over the past few years we've both made concessions, and i even made some headway in getting her to think about some things.
but from time-to-time we would end up arguing about something wts-related and there would be days of tension between us.. well, a few weeks ago we were having a casual conversation about wildlife in our area, she mentioned something about jehovah ruining those who ruin the earth.

Doinmypart I have so much respect for what you did, granted you disappointed your wife but if you aren't true to yourself then what does it matter how others feel about you. I have almost the same, exact situation as you did. I remain an elder because I don't want to disappoint my wife, my father and mother, etc. Its eating me up inside slowly but surely. Again you have my respect for standing up to the crappy JW system and telling them to take that fake clergy position of theirs and shove it!

My Dad almost stepped down because of how angry he was over how badly the situation was dealt with...
This statement describes my life as a JW the over the passed 5 yrs or so. Except its not dad its me and there wasnt just one situation but many. If I got into detail here someone may figure out who I am... suffice it to say many elders are corrupt and power hungry.

Do elders feel any different after they are appointed?
by dido ini`d like to ask all ex elders and current elders (lot`s of new ones on the forum today), if they feel any different after they were appointed?
like a special portion of `j`s spirit`, or did they feel the same?

Not really...but it did get to my head because I was young and to be recognized in that way and sit with men twice my age and make decisions was a head trip in itself. As I got older and still very JW I thought that Jah appointed me to care for the poor sheep that were being mistreated and so forth... then I realized it wasnt just in my cong but the whole org. people were suffering due to trying to live up to a standard that is near impossible. Then I started having doubts and began to realize that the whole elder arrangement is a sham.

I have seen Schroeder, Sydlik, and Losch out doing street work before in the downtown Brooklyn area on seperate Saturday afternoons but this was in the early 90's. Right now I have no idea of any of them go out, though I bet they do just not as often as man JWs like to think.

Were "Theocratic Activities" A Burden To You???
by minimus inif you go to an assembly or convention, you are made to feel that everything is joyful, wonderful, "happifying", paradisaic, unified.
going to 5 meetings, never missing them, preparing for meetings and doing regular personal and family study and pioneering, if at all possible, raising your kids to be perfect little ministers, etc.......all these types of things are supposed to make you feel wonderful!

At my peak of JWness....regular pioneer, newly appointed elder these things were not a burden at all. Now I cant stand doing any of these things. I feign illness, lie about working late... anything to get out of going to the meeting or out in service. These activities are a complete waste of time.
