Most of the elders now suck. many are power hungry, insecure, petty, unloving, etc, etc. There was a time where elders were reccomended based on what the bible said now its more who you know and who's big fat ass you kiss.

Are elders what they used to be?
by BluesBrother inwhen i was a young and idealistic elder - the attitude that was stressed continually was this one :.

I once went to a local deli here and ordered lunch, gave the nasty owner/cashier a $10 and she gave me back change for a $20. I admit that because I didnt like the way she yelled at her migrant (mexican most likely) staff I walked away. I felt a little guilty but not that much since I didnt care for her. I would not deliberately cheat someone though.

Watchtower breeding campaign
by Fleshybirdfodder inok, so this is purely speculative, but with the dwindling numbers in the org do you think the wts may actually start encouraging the r&f to have children?
as counterintuitive as it may seem with the constant impending armageddon agenda, i know of many died-in-the-wool company men (and women) who would swallow whatever spin the society feeds them to keep the numbers up.
farfetched perhaps, but what else can they do?.

Observing my "generation" mid 30's-early 40's I'd say that most of us planned on not going to college and pioneering until the end came. Which was soon since people alive in 1914 couldn't really live that long right? Lately many of us since the generation change, myself included opted to stop pioneering and have kids. Afterall the end could be 10-20-30 yrs from now. Its amazing how WT doctrines really toy with people's lives.

HELLO... if you found out that you had been lied to for x amount of yrs or decades wouldn't you initially be pissed?!!? Of course nobody talks to these "apostates" years later to see how happy to be out they really are. I guess JW's need to tell themselves that all apostates are bitter, angry evil people to solidify their own decision to stay in mind controlling cult. Just had to vent, more and more I realize why I dont like going to meetings.

A question for all Whisky drinkers.
by lfcviking inhello chumz on the board.
nothing really to do with jwism but who prefers the american 'bourbon' type such as 'wild turkey', 'jim beam' etc or who prefers a fine single malt scotch such as 'glenfiddich' or 'glenmorangie'?
i am not trying to stir up nationalism with this question but am just genuinely curious.. lfcv.

Southern Comfort is best with Coke Classic
That used to be my drink of choice after beer but an incident with a brother who was at bethel at the time barfing up a mix of southern comfort, coke and cheeto's turned me off to it pretty much for good.

Good, thorough list ITIS.
While I am still in technically what lead me to be mentally free of the WT was being an elder for the passed 11 yrs. I got to see firsthand how unloving and pharisaical many elders are. They are power hungry, egotistical, selfish, back stabbing, morons. I saw how the PO would sit and complain to me about this elder, and that elder...then when I'd speak to "this" and "that" elder they would tell me how he would complain about me. Stars in the right hand of christ?!?!!??
The class system in most congregations also caused me to doubt that we were fulfulling John 13:35 to have love, the lack of genuine shepherding calls, I could go on and on but you get the point.
The final straw was watching that dateline on pedophiles and then a bulb went off in my head "what else can they be wrong about if they allow something this serious to go on". Went online, found this site and many others then finally read both of Ray Franz's books last summer and that was it.

I like a jack and coke now and then. For straight up or on the rocks I prefer single malts (usually at JW weddings with open bars) or Johnnie Walker Blue or Black.

Told wife that I don't like going to the meeting
by XBEHERE infinally said it out loud even though my actions have been showing it for quite some time.
a fight ensued and now she isn't talking to me.
the wierd thing is when i just didnt go she didn't say much (she hasn't been for over 2 mos for a medical reason) but god forbid i should actually vocalize that i don't want to go... i didn't want to give her any fuel to call me an apostate so i just blamed discouragement and my dislike of the elders which she already knows.

Has she really not gone AT ALL for three months?
The last meeting she went too was on December 19, 2006 so a little over 2 months yes. During that time I've maybe gone to 50-60% of them. The WT is right about one thing, the more you miss the easier it gets to keep missing them. They claim its satanic or worldly influence but in reality the meetings just completely suck!

Why do the local congregations always pay for the D.O. and C.O. visits?
by RULES & REGULATIONS inevery time a circuit and district overseer visited our congregation, the elders always wanted a show of hands from the congregation to see if we would pay for their car expenses and travel.sometimes the congregation would pay for airline tickets.it was always approved.. do you know if the idea came from the local congregations to pay?
did the wts send out letters to each congregation to see if they would pay?
we know that the wts always get what they want.. it's amazing how we paid $250-$400 for each overseer visit and the wts paid nothing..

And he's not like... profiting or anything. He will retire with the clothes on his back and the lint in his pocket
Don't forget the money that most CO's receive from the elders and publishers in congregations that they visit and its all tax free. The average circuit is what 18-25 congregations maybe depending on the area of the country.
Again depending on where he is serving, when I was in the Northeast we used to give the CO $30-50. Taking my congregation as an example say the average each elder gave was $40. 40X12 elders = $480. This is just figuring in the elders, I know some publishers who gave 20, 30, 40 as well and this is all tax free! He gets this every week since he visits a cong. weekly. Figure 4 wks vacation thats 48wks X $480= $23,000. Of course its possibly much more than this but you get my drift... its all tax free. All these CO's need to do is save, open an IRA or something and they will be fine especially since as was mentioned all the meals, drycleaning, medical, car repairs, etc is all paid for.

Brief update: We are on complete speaking terms again but she refuse's to admit that she doesn't like the meetings either even though I know she has not missed going (its been close to 3 mos....I'm jealous). Meanwhile I continue to distance myself from the cong and elders I even missed the assembly last weekend.
I'd like to thank all of you for your support once again, I never knew apostates could be so supportive.
