The District Conventions always sucked. So boring and such a waste of time. Even as a die hard JW I always wondered how they expected us to listen to people talk for 6 hrs a day 3 sometimes 7 days a week depending on how far back in time we go.

Floppy 2005 WT Bound Volume
by stillajwexelder inwell i have finally got my 2005 watchtower bound volume (not the awake just yet) and it is very thin flimsy plastic covered paper - really weird after about over 100 years of hardback bound volumes.
talk about saving money - for a reference book i would say this is a step too far -what next - the insight books in paperback?

They really are cutting costs down aren't they. I've seen the new vol though I havent ordered one for yrs. If you have the CDROM why bother and CD's cost like 30 cents to make.

Governing body and food at the proper time
by snarf ini had a sister call on me the other day and asked if i wanted to attend the book study with her.
i asked her how the governing body knew which topics to post in the magazines and what subjects the elders need to talk about for public talks.
she never answered my question, but assured me it was covered in the chapter they were studying in the daniel book.

The GB doesnt even write most of the literature these days as for how they come up with doctrine they twist the scriptures to suit their needs. Most of the lit out today is a rehash of the vomit spewed out by Fred Franz circa 1945-1991after Rutherford died he was the "company spokesman" and Knorr was the businessman.

But they are sneaky. Nobody can ever sue them or complain because they (WTS) can point to articles in the publications and say "See we told you to plan finacially or whatever - it is a good get out clause for them
But what they print sometimes is different from what actually gets enforced and I am not talking necessarily about elders enforcing but the whole culture of being a JW, the social pressure this is what goes unwritten. For example in the past (prior to 1994ish) the WT never bluntly said to not go to college, sure the encouragement was to pursue full time service, take up a skill, college was immoral etc, etc. but they actually stopped short of saying DO NOT GO. How did JWs react when someone went to college back in the 80s? That person was ostrasized and made to feel guilty. This is the reality of JW life that many non-JWs dont really understand.

Just wanted to share with you all some may consider this a small victory but for me its awesome. I really cant stomach that Daniel book.

How much does it cost to be a JW
by osmosis inok the story i get from my jw relatives is that borg "isn't making money off them", but that never sat well with me.
i've always wondered how much money she contributed to the borg.. since i don't have the nerve to ask them, and they probably won't tell me the "truth" if i do, i'm asking you folks.. how much money does the average jw contribute to the cause?
how much do those silly magazines cost anyway?

Many JWs never put any money in the contribution box; and many never ask the non-JW to donate to the worldwide work.
I stopped a while ago, the wife just assumes I do so they have gotten nothing from us in about 4 yrs and I suspect many, not all, but many are the same way. I never ask for a donation out in service because I do "fake service" therefore I dont talk to people. Now if only I could find a away to be at the mtgs but not actually be at them.....

Good thread, many valid points brought out by everyone. I think many JW's are tired of being JW's and are realizing that the end is nowhere in sight but most still think it is coming so wont leave. I am in my mid 30's I think my generation is the one that is going to be one of the last "strong JW's" since our parents are products of the pre 1975 hysteria and consequent growth. After the 1995 generation change even us 30somethings are leaving, the youth...so called Gen Y and Z are all but gone and if they are around very few are regular pioneering or MS's like when I was their age. Its a sad state for the WTS.

New user in Pittsburgh, Pa
by somlat ini feel a little odd in posting this..... i am a 39 year old former witness, former elder, former just about everything.
been through much in the last two years... realized not all things i believed were true to me, not all things in the faith work the way i thought.
no anger about the past... i did what i believed to be true to myself, and what others do is their decision.
