  Why do the local congregations always pay for the D.O. and C.O. visits?

  every time a circuit and district overseer visited our congregation,the elders always wanted a show of hands from the congregation to see if we would pay for their car expenses and travel.sometimes the congregation would pay for airline tickets.it was always approved.. do you know if the idea came from the local congregations to pay?

  did the wts send out letters to each congregation to see if they would pay?

  we know that the wts always get what they want.. it's amazing how we paid $250-$400 for each overseer visit and the wts paid nothing..

  Don't forget the money that most CO's receive from the elders and publishers in congregations that they visit and its all tax free. The average circuit is what 18-25 congregations maybe depending on the area of the country.

  Again depending on where he is serving, when I was in the Northeast we used to give the CO $30-50. Taking my congregation as an example say the average each elder gave was $40. 40X12 elders = $480. This is just figuring in the elders, I know some publishers who gave 20, 30, 40 as well and this is all tax free! He gets this every week since he visits a cong. weekly. Figure 4 wks vacation thats 48wks X $480= $23,000. Of course its possibly much more than this but you get my drift... its all tax free. All these CO's need to do is save, open an IRA or something and they will be fine especially since as was mentioned all the meals, drycleaning, medical, car repairs, etc is all paid for.

  finally said it out loud even though my actions have been showing it for quite some time.

  a fight ensued and now she isn't talking to me.

  the wierd thing is when i just didnt go she didn't say much (she hasn't been for over 2 mos for a medical reason) but god forbid i should actually vocalize that i don't want to go... i didn't want to give her any fuel to call me an apostate so i just blamed discouragement and my dislike of the elders which she already knows.

  Brief update: We are on complete speaking terms again but she refuse's to admit that she doesn't like the meetings either even though I know she has not missed going (its been close to 3 mos....I'm jealous). Meanwhile I continue to distance myself from the cong and elders I even missed the assembly last weekend.

  I'd like to thank all of you for your support once again, I never knew apostates could be so supportive.

  The CO is not supposed to bring the subject up and is officially only to turn the receipts over if requested

  while the above statement is true no body of elders would ever dare not ask for his expenses. Its one of those unwritten rules. I recall sitting on the service committee meetings at the end of the visit and the PO would say "..ahh oh if you have any expenses to submit to us" the CO would say very machinelike "Yes thank you" I used to roll my eyes.... so stupid.

  Not until about 5 yrs ago. As I was secretary then it became VERY easy to fudge not just my hrs but the wifes, and anyone else who didnt submit a report after I asked them repeatedly, I wasn't a very patient sec. So I know for a fact that the year end report stating hrs, etc is not accurate and I am sure there are other sec. out there who did the same thing.

  lately my family member that is still undecided about staying out or going back keeps mentioning this big push that the jws keep emphasising that "we are really really really near the end.

  this is the very very very end.

  we are deep deep deep into the end.

  The end was so near that I went to serve at Bethel in 1990, got married and left but kept pioneering because it was sooooooo near! Then the generation change happened and suddenly, the urgency was gone for many people. The pioneer ranks dropped, many went to college and vocational schools because you could now do it "legally". Now the WT is trying to reverse all of that and higher education is "bad" again and the end is so very near.. According to the GB Jehovah clearly can't make up his mind.

  What Are Proofs That JWs REALLY Don't Believe Their Own Rhetoric?

  jehovah's witnesses talk a big game but in reality they are filled with hot air.

  they say a lot of things but don't always back it up.

  for example, jws are told that meeting attendance is of paramount importance but the truth is anytime a meeting might be called off due to inclement weather, jws would anxiously wait by the phone from their elders saying the meetings were being canceled.. jws tell everyone that their preaching work is a "life-saving" work but the truth is they don't utilize the most effective modern ways of getting this "life-saving" message out.

  I realized when I was Secretary that many make up service time. Example: on more than one occasion I misplaced some slips and had to ask publishers to resubmit their reports. Eventually I found the misplaced slips and they never were the same as the new ones they gave me. I could only conclude that people guessed as to what their time was so it was.

  Thanks to all of you for your support and suggestions... the flowers did help, she calmed down and started talking to me again but she said "you need to work on your attitude towards this congregation". So I need to decide when I want to start my plan, one way or another I will not be an elder anymore after this year. Hopefully before next CO visit in June, she knows I am stressed out she said and also that I seem different... so she knows something big is up in my life. I will reassure her of my love and support, but for my own health (I too was recently put on BP and Cholesterol meds) I need out of this cult!

  Thanks for all the advice.. first thing I need to do is end this silly "silent treatment" flowers it is! Unfortunately I said what I said out of frustration and my frustration is just getting worse and worse. I need to formulate a plan to step aside as elder asap. Anyone have any suggestions for this besides committing a sin ? Its like the Hotel California "you can check out anytime... but you can never leave"

  I got a lecture about: 1) showing an example to my kids 2) You are also an elder why not talk to the others about their unchristian attitude (yeah right as if that ever helps) 3) The publishers need you, you are the only balanced elder.. I guess my fears of losing my family if I come out of the "apostate closet" aren't unfounded afterall....

  What do you think is behind the watchtower change in 2008 ?

  i think it's an atempt to catch faders or atleast make active dubs feel special.

  it also could be a cost cutting measure to though.

  getting rid of the km's and even up awakes and watchtowers would save some trees.

  It has taken 16 years to get here since they stopped charging a specific price for the publications to the rank and file. It never mattered whether non-JWs paid or not. The WTS had their money before the publications left the KH. I think the WTS was expecting the rank and file to donate the same amount of money anonymously to the contribution boxes. But I have known how cheap JWs can be. If there is no public accounting of individual payment, they figure "who will know." My husband and other account servants I have known said that very few JWs ever donated. It was usually a core group of 8 to 10 people who donated what covered the KH expenses and the mortgage if they had one. When the mortgage was paid off, donations took a big drop.

  It's the money, folks.

  I agree 100%. The 8-10 core donators is also 100% accurate as well as I was accounts servant for 5 yrs. They used to get paid twice sometimes for the literature prior to 1990....once when the JW picked it up then again if the householder donated for it.
