It's All Your Fault - 9.15.13 wt Study Ed
by breakfast of champions in"in a similar way, at the beginning of the 20th century, there were a number of wrong expectations among true christians regarding the last days.
(2 tim.
3:1) for instance, in the year 1914, some thought that their being taken to heaven was imminent.

School for Congregation Elders
by C.O.B.E.Beef ini attended the school late last year, and it was an emotional and mental rollercoaster for me.
i was already divided in my heart to say the least.
one of the instructors stayed in my home for the week, and my family genuinely enjoyed his company.

@James Jackson- We stopped attending meetings and reporting time late last year so our status is " inactive". Thanks for asking and welcome to the forum!

My Letter to Brooklyn about the Parousia that got me disfellowshipped
by cofty inthis is the letter i wrote back in '96 about the parousia.
following the '95 watchtower that disconnected the "generation" from 1914 i began to look carefully at end-time prophecy and soon discovered what i knew were basic errors in what i had been taught.. i was a loyal jw at the time and was still serving as an elder.
i used only watchtower publications in my research.

"The END is soooooo close"
by Phizzy ini notice reported in a number of posts that this seems to a bit of a mantra with the dubbies now, more so than ever in the past.. is this because they are getting desperate for the life they live as jw's to change ?
they don't really want to end their days with the constant drudgery of the jw life still going on, they want something different, but must "wait on jehovah".
sigh.. i wonder if this is a small opportunity for us to sow some small, niggling doubt, why not ask, when they spew out the "it is soooo close" nonsense:.

The JW lifestyle is what makes them yearn for the end. The treadmill of meeting attendance , service, peronal study, conventions and assemblies plus the constant feelings of guilt and a negative view of everything non-JW is exhausting. They just need relief.
If only they would consider an alternate solution, they dont need 7.8 billion people destroyed to bring relief. Just detach from 8 in NY.

@crazyguy- Im not sure I can give a thorough answer to that right now because Im putting my kids to sleep. I sometimes wonder why my wife woke up much easier than many of the accounts I read about on here. I definately dont think anything I did was special. In fact I think I went too fast according to most advice I have heard.
It seems to me that particular reasoning and logic you use is secondary to your approach and to the perspective of the listener.
I focused on my relationship with my wife. I love her , so I acted like it. I love my kids, so I acted like it. She never viewed me as a threat. I made it a point to talk about ( non-JW ) uncomfortable topics often, in a way that made awkwardness feel normal. Being cynical , asking questions, laughing at me ( daddy ) is OK. My human wife is who I wanted out of the cult, so the human is who I appealed to.
That being said, I never hid my emotions from her . When a meeting pissed me off, she knew it. Not because I counted off the reasons why, but because She could see it on my face.
When she was ready, she would ask why...
My answers were always focused on our kids.
My thought was , the WT has made outrageous claims. Not me. Im not trying to prove anything , but they are , every thursday and sunday. The plaintiff holds the burden of proof even in the human justice system.
Im just an imperfect husband and father who wants the best for his family. I dont know all the answers, but I wont demonise all the questions.
Is " The Truth" the one good thing our parents got right, or do imperfect people pass on imperfect lifestyles?
IMO , the witnesses got something right , and that is, They're just imperfect men , its all we have . This concept shouldnt be applied to just the GB...
but to the human race.

@problem-It sounds like she is gonna make it my friend, I think your patience will pay off. Its very tough. It was and still is for my wife. We are not Df'd but everyone knows we quit on purpose. Now nobody calls except the elders.
I seem to remember reading that you have little ones. That may really help her gain the courage to quit the WT drug. Thinking about our kids future is what made both of us put the magazine down. The WT put us in a spell that made life easy, it was a cop-out. All we had to do was survive between meetings. A connect-the-dot life. No decisions, no right and wrong, just show up.
But my opinion is that the smug, arrogant , self righteous attitude of an old timer witness was usually bought with the currency of a beaten ,ridiculed, awkward ,and stolen childhood.
These are just my feelings. Problemaddict, I hope the best for you and hope you keep in touch..
