So did mankind repent en masse and turn to God before 1975? That's why God spared the Ninevites. If so, why are JWs still out knocking on doors?

Looking Back, Did You Notice Many JWs Had Drinking, Drug or Mental Issues?
by minimus inas an elder, i saw many people that were affected by booze, drugs and mental health issues.
a lot of witnesses fought depression and turned to other things when they realized they couldn't keep up the pace and find inner happiness with what they did do..

The congregations I was in were like Prozac nation. Seems like the majority of the "happiest people on earth" were on the stuff, or some similar product. Including me, at the time. Funny, I haven't needed it since I left the organization.

amazon prime or netflix?
by Hortensia ini've had netflix for a long time, but it can be very disappointing.
i like streaming movies and tv shows, but netflix has a lot less to offer in the streaming department than in the dvds it mails.
amazon's prime is less expensive, and sometimes it has the stuff i want, but a lot of the time it doesn't either.. i suppose the different companies make different agreements with movie distributors.

I use Netflix streaming, but also kept the 2-at-a-time disc option. That way I can still get the new movies that aren't out on streaming yet. There is so much stuff to watch on streaming that I never lack something to watch, even when I have watched both discs.

New Rooming Arrangement for some district conventions in the UK - what are they up to?
by 88JM inso i missed this letter below being read out last week - i got a look at it from the notice board this week.. from what i heard, this announcement was not received entirely positively as such, but there were apparently one or two for who this is a bit annoying.. staying at hotels for the district convention is nothing new here - many are used to staying at the same hotel/b&b/campsite every year, and get quite friendly with the owners.
but this year, it looks like not only do we have a new location for our district assembly (glasgow - the s.e.c.c.?
) but we are being told what hotel to stay at, supposedly to make things cheaper.. what i can't understand is, if this is really for the benefit of people, why didn't they do this years ago?

It could result in difficulties if a large number of delegates choose not to use the hotels listed, hut for one reason or another, make their own arrangements.
Translation: If the hotels we have made kickback deals with begin to realize that they don't need to pay us off to get our people's business, we won't be able to shake them down for money anymore.

Confidential Materials!
by Atlantis inall documents of important nature such as, our kingdom ministry, boe letters, forms, or other materials will now be sent only by email or private message communications.
they will not be posted out here on the board.
if someone else wants to post them, be my guest.. .. we have no other choice in this matter, and sending out confidential documents is better when it is done privately.

OK, figured it out thanks to finallysomepride. I've also sent a pm to you, Atlantis!

I'm surprised they didn't offer to drop the charges in exchange for starting a Bible study with him.

Anyone from New Hampshire? Do JWs object to the license plate??
by Chaserious ini happened to come across this case today: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/wooley_v._maynard.
"george maynard and his wife, followers of the jehovah's witnesses faith, viewed the motto as repugnant to their moral, religious, and political beliefs, and for this reason they covered up the motto [live free or die] on the license plates of their jointly owned family automobiles.".
it appears this guy kept getting fined by the local cops for covering up the license plate motto!

I remember hearing about the case back in the 1970s. I was living in Massachusetts at the time and had quite a few friends from New Hampshire. No, this wasn't official WT policy. In fact, the way I heard it was that the guy was disfellowshipped. Basically, the story as it came to me was that he was an off-the-wall nutjob who did things like this, took stuff to extremes. I knew plenty of JWs from New Hampshire, and none of them covered their license plates. Whack-a-doodle indeed.

So, I had a thought about wicked spirits lately...
by sd-7 inthe whole reason i even got dragged into this jw stuff, and we didn't just become somebody's return visit they never came back on, is because my mom claimed that the demons were talking to her.
they told her that the jws knew the truth about them, so she called the local kingdom hall.
bible study was started, and that was that.

Ummm, yeah, because you should always believe what the demons tell you. Sounds like the demons wanted her to become a JW. Personally, if a demon told me to check out a certain religion because it was the one with the truth, I think I'd be just the least bit skeptical about that.

Obtaining publications
by goddidit inwhat would be the easiest, cheapest way to obtain jw publications, even hardbacks?.
they don't come to my door so often.
what if i visit the nearest kh?.

Maybe not the nearest, if they know who you are. Try one some distance away where you are not known. It depends on what you are looking for, too. Many of us here have extensive digital and/or hard copy libraries. Try posting what you need, and we may be able to help.
