What has the WTS EVER "predicted" that has actually come true?
by integ inyou'd think they could point to something right?
obviously we're the one true religion".. i can't fathom how anyone of any intelligence would be willing to join up with this org after doing even rudimentary research.. for years they have taught that it's wrong to seek advanced education or to plan for a "worldly" future by trusting in this system of things and then this past sunday the watchtower article rips on people for not planning for the future in regard to their elderly relatives.
maybe if they hadn't been teaching for 100 yr's that the end was "just around the corner" and telling us we'd better believe that fact...or else, we would have planned better for a future that you said without reservation would not even occur.. what mind blowing prediction can they point to that would convince someone "oh yeah..these guys have it right"...?.

i do have a small pension. It will be about enough to buy the daily newspaper, at least it will be something to snuggle under on the park bench. It could have been more but years early when i was talking to the man from the bank about insurance for my small business i said no i don't need a pension.
Am i missing a zero somewhere prologos? i don't think so.
this is the quote from the book God's Eternal Purpose Now Triumphing For Man's Good(1974 WTB&TS) page 131
the heading is'"Morning" of the seventh creative "day" begins, 526 BCE.' and the paragraph starts
'The first half or "evening" period of God's seventh creative "day" was now closing, 3500 years from creation of, Adam and Eve. The morning of this creative "day" was due to begin at 526 BCE.'
So I understand this to mean 526 BCE is the half way point in the 7th creative day so if you add 3500 years to it and take away 1000 and do something with the zero (maybe this is the zero you meant) i think it comes out to 1975
The thousand year reign follows Armageddon and is not included in it. So it seems to me that between getting this important spiritual food and studying it early in 1975 there was little time remaining.
As far as i remember the book doesn't mention 1975 for some reason, I could be wrong however it does mention 4026 on page 51 in the heading ' "Evening" of seventh creative "day" begins, 4026 BCE' Also at the beginning of the book it talks about Charles Taze Russell and his Watch Tower article "The Plan of the Ages" and the diagram "Chart of the Ages".
It explains how Ephesians 3:11 in the Emphatic Diaglott has "according to a plan of the ages, which he formed" and based on this translation the Watchtower article was published and the chart was later in 1886 included i understand in Russells book The Divine Plan of the Ages.In my copy of the NWT Ephesians 3:11 'according to the eternal purpose that he formed...' and the book is called God's "Eternal Purpose" Now Triumphing for Man's Good.
In the book God's Kingom of a Thousand Years has Approached(1973 WTB&TS) on pages 206/208 it explains how they had arrived at 1874 as the "presence" or parousia. I qoute here from page 208.
'Thus, by inserting 100 years into the Bible chronology during the period of the Judges, man's creation was pushed pushed back 100 years to 4128 BCE and the six thousand years of man's existence on earth ended in 1872. (The Time Is At Hand page 42) Then the allowance of two years before the entry of sin led to the year 1874 as the year in which six thousand years of human sin terminated and the seventh thousand years for the elimination of sin by Christ's reign began. So the Grand Jubilee was then due to begin.'
So if i've understood it correctly it would seem to me that 1975 was connected to Charles Taze Russell. On page 206 of the book just mentioned it says.
'Also, that the date of the first man's creation by Jehovah God was in the 4128 BCE which meant that six thousand years of man's existence on he earth ended in the year 1872 CE as calculated by Russell and his associates. This reckoning began to be announced on the fornt page of Zion's Watch Tower and Herald of Christ's Presence beginning with the issue of July 1, 1906 and this practice continued down through the issue of September 15 1928.'
Doesn't appear to me that any of it was correct.

yes in a while when i can use the computer.
i could do with a few extra zeros one of the houses i lived in as a child is worth almost a million pounds now but my father sold it and rented many years ago as the end was so close and he wanted to more as a witness. That would have been my inheritance. No education no pension no inheritance. I need those zeros

In 1974 the book Gods Eternal Purpose Now Triumphing For Mans Good gave the date of 526 BCE as the beginning of the morning of the seventh creative day

Scriptural Basis for Obedience to GB?
by mrhhome ini have a genuine question for the jw apologist.
.
what is your scriptural justification for your unquestioning obedience to the governing body and your unwillingness to question their intepretation of scripture?.

In the front of the book Jehovahs's Witnesses In the Divine Purpose (1958 WTB&TS of Pennsylvania) it has a list of dates beginning with 1870 when C T Russell begins studying the bible with a small group and ends with the date 1919 the release of the Society's officers from prison.
I believe 1919 is the date that is given as the date that 'From atop this celestial chariotlike organization Jehovah commissioned this dedicated, baptised , anointed class of servants to speak to all the nations in His name. Thus like Ezekiel , they became Jehovah's witnesses.' (Nations Shall Know That I Am Jehovah-How? 1971 WTB&TS) and you have the faithful and discreet slave from this date.
The next date listed in the front of the Jehovah's Witnesses In The Divine Purpose is 1877 the date the book Three Worlds was published and 1914 was identified as being the end of the gentile times.
In the Watchtower October 1 1983 page 4. It says.
'What do you mean by spiritual paradise? you ask. Put simply; An organization of Christians who have made over their personalities to conform to God's requirments and who are united in his true worship may be said to be in a spiritual paradise.'
As they have never changed the date of the end of the gentile times since 1877 and since 1919 the organzation of Jehovah's Witnesses has grown to what it is today in what has been identified by the witnesses as the last days in fulfillment of Isaiah 2:2-4
'It must occur in the final part of the days that the mountain of the house of Jehovah will become firmly established above the hills and to it all the nations must stream. (NWT)
Then I would present this as my basis for obedience to the GB.
( just thought i'd flesh out my earlier post)

I think the spiritual paradise would be the evidence I would give after they said 1914 would be the end of the gentile times as people are streaming to the mountain of Jehovah due to the preaching work they were commissioned todo shortly after the gentile times ended.

What's the difference between exJWs who FLOURISH and those that don't?
by Fernando inquite a few here on jwn seem to have grown and developed in leaps and bounds, sometimes beyond their wildest dreams.. others seem to still be struggling.. what do you think makes it possible to flourish?.
the degree to which our mind has been liberated from watchtower thinking?.
if so, this seems to happen in many different ways, so what is the secret?.

The do not call list
by LisaRose ini have posted before about my experience trying to get on the "do not call" list.
despite repeated requests, a phone call to the hall and mailing a letter, and then giving a copy to a jw, they just keep coming by.
i was going to put up a no soliciting sign, then i can call the police on them, but my husband doesn't want me to do it.. so, i decided if they come back i would have some fun.

i thought maybe i was on the do not call list as i hadn't seen anyone or heard anyone at the door in quite a long time.
at one point i had an elder calling on me regularly with his wife and i think i was a route call. near to the time he stopped calling i could pinpoint which saturday he would call on me. he must have called for a couple of years and i quite enjoyed his visits. i had stopped attending for about 7 or 8 years when he first started to call. by the end i was becoming a little irritated by the mechanical shall we say way that the call was. i could predict when he would come. he would always give me the magazines and point out an article and so on the last visit we had a discussion about the trinity and a few other things and i was surprised at myself. i had always felt things like the trinity bored me to death most biblical things did and i could never see much in the trinity. i think the expression the scales fell from my eyes would be appropriate. i was surprised how he viewed Jesus in relation to John 1. Maybe i wasn't paying attention at the hall all those years i went, could be i was to busy counting the ceiling tiles. Anyway he left a bit irritated i thought and never returned and nor did anyone else. I went to the hall after that and made and effort to talk to him which isn't me at all but it felt different not so warm.
the good thing about knowing when the elder would call was that i could prepare myself mentally i sort of need to. recently i have had a visit this is some years later and although the conversation starts out fine i'm relaxed and we talk about general things soon the conversation turns to the 'truth' and i change. i googled it and i'm pretty sure it's a panic attack. i've had other panic attacks according to my doctor but they were very different and came in the middle of the night and were a real battle and so i didn't think this was but i'm sure it is. they want to come back. infact i sort of invited them but now i'm not so sure. there is a part of me that really wants to talk with them but i need to not have a panic attack it really ruins my day.
