Being in a cult - what good did it do?
by Garrett inso, here's a bit of a different point of view.
while most of us will agree that our time within the jw cult was rather terrible, however, i'd like to look at another aspect.
did anything good come out of being in a cult and then waking up from it?.

I used the word 'may' as we have no way of knowing what would have been or not been had we followed a different path however the I feel that our Christianity has influenced our lives not just in a negative way. An example maybe in being raised a Jehovah's Witness and seeking the kingdom first in life it meant that life was somewhat simpler. My father hardly ever worked overtime and gave up good jobs to attend meetings and be with the family (most times I wished he hadn't) taking less materially. Money was not something I was brought up to pursue. This in turn may have contributed to me having a similar viewpoint and being able to spend more time with the children and they benefitted from it. My decisions in some areas have cost me in financial terms whereas my children had the benefit of a good education and a stable home life when they were young with a good view of the importance or not of material things. They should end up better off financial than my parents and certainly better than me.

The actual leaving I feel had no real benefit. Having left my children have probably benefited more than me. Although one of my children recently discussed where financially they would have been had we as parents not been witnesses.I pointed out they may not have benefited from such a good christian upbringing had we not have been raised by Witnesses. -

A short while ago a man I know through my business had reason to ask if I was afraid of death. I said not really. He put his hand on my should and looked at me. Don't be, He said, I've left my body many times. He then described in some detail his out of body experiences. -

Why do we get TTATT and others don't?
by quest81 ini have thought about how ttatt came full circle for me.
how the connecting the dots was simple and just made sense,.
how silos of information are literally at our fingertips today.. why is it that the ones we love cannot get ttatt?.

Why do we get TTATT and others don't?
I think we are all different with different lives and circumstances and various reasons as to why we believe.
When I left it had a connection to something many years earlier and in the years between I had examined my faith and concluded it was sound. In those years some left, as an example I think some left after 1975 and although I believed it ended 6000 years of a 7000 year creative day it wasn't enough for me to doubt the faithful and discreet slave class commission and having Jehovah's holy spirit . Then a Watchtower article altered my view and conclusion and I found I left. Others came to a different conclusion when I discussed it with them.

you have all been an immense help to me as i have come to realize that this isn't the truth so i want to say a great big thank you!
what a crazy, emotional ride it is to finally face the truth about the doubts that i have carried for many years.

When you were Hard-Core JW, did Opponents Screaming or Filming you help your Exit?
by PokerPlayerPhil inall of us are upset in different ways, some of us are ferociously angry because, let's face it, it's our fault!
i had many clues they were lying about our religion but i failed to see through them because of the pain of admitting we got conned and family pressure from peers stopped me from making a courageous choice.
when i read about people who confronted the elders and won their judicial committees (even though the jw elders df'ed them) my heart goes out to their courage, their amazingly stronger than i will ever be.

When attending Meetings during your zealous involvement with Organiztation would protestors using strongarm methods have changed your minds they way facts on JWN and JW-Facts have?
When i was a Witness neither would have changed my mind and I left before I had the internet so JWN and JW-Facts have had no bearing on my leaving. The account at Acts 5;32-42 had an influence on my view. My change of mind simply came down to my own conscience and what it allowed me to do or not do. I would not have read anything I viewed as possibly being 'apostate' or have listened to those who had left the organization.
