  Is there a difference between being pardoned or acquitted

  in the new world translation of the holy scriptures (revised 2013) at romans 6:7 it uses the word 'acquitted'.

  in the kingdom interlinear translation of the greek scriptures (1985) it also has 'acquitted' and in the greek word for english word translation part in has 'has been justified' .

  the insight on the scriptures (1988) under the heading declare righteous page 803 talking about the original greek words that are translated as justify and justification and can be translated as declared righteous and pronounce righteous it says,.

  In the New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures (revised 2013) at Romans 6:7 it uses the word 'acquitted'. In the Kingdom Interlinear Translation of the Greek Scriptures (1985) it also has 'acquitted' and in the Greek word for English word translation part in has 'has been justified'

  The Insight On The Scriptures (1988) under the heading Declare Righteous page 803 talking about the original Greek words that are translated as justify and justification and can be translated as declared righteous and pronounce righteous it says,

  '...basically carry the idea of absolving or clearing of any charge, holding as guiltless and hence acquitting, or pronouncing and treating as righteous'

  My understanding is that God forgives us on the legal basis of Christ sacrifice, we are acquitted, as if we never committed the sin. I see it different from being pardoned.

  In the footnote of the New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures (revised 2013) Romans 6:7 it says 'Or released of pardoned'

  My question is, Am I wrong in thinking there is a difference between being acquitted and pardoned and as the Greek uses the word translated justified or in the English use of the words do they mean the same?

  So if the court asked the relatives of the murder victims what should be done they would say let him go free would they?

  Probably not but I don't know.

  I would be interested in your thoughts on what forgiveness means.

  I have read the comments.

  In my Vines Complete Expository Dictionary under the words Forgive,Forgave, Forgiveness page 251 it says

  'Human "forgiveness" is to be strictly analogous to divine "forgiveness," e.g., Matt. 6:12. If certain conditions are fulfilled, there is no limitation to Christ's law of "forgiveness," Matt 18:21,22. The conditions are repentance and confession, Matt.18:15-17; Luke 17:3.'

  I think then to forgive would be for the sin or debt to be completely cancelled as if it never happened.

  In the discussion I had with the theologian I explained that my reaction probably wouldn't have been like these children and I saw forgiveness tied very much to repentance. The theologian is a very bright man and i'm not so bright.

  Christians respond to events the way they are expected to react.

  I didn't find this when a relative of mine died. There was a variety of responses to the death. I was closer to the person than most of the other relatives. My brother and I are both Christian and it affected my brother a lot more than myself. I didn't feel expected to react in a certain way.

  I had a discussion with a theologian a while ago regarding forgiving and found my view was different than his. Maybe this was just that I was wrong or maybe it was because I was raised as a Jehovah's Witness. I found it difficult to be forgiving of someone who doesn't want my forgiveness. I felt I should accommodate their wishes.

  Summer Convention at Twickenham now gone, UK

  i believe this is the first year that the uk wont have a summer dc at this historical old rugby stadium (which is now one of the finest arenas in the uk) the costs to rent it must be astronomical these days, and it appears they are having multiple dates at the excel arena in london plus milton keynes is being used , many memories for me from a baby onwards making the yearly trip there, the dusty old stadium, the long walks to the car parks, working on the field security, getting burnt to a crisp or being poured on, binoculars !

  food tickets, meeting at the lion gates checking the talent, and on the final day drinking the local pub dry the barny arms, end of an era!

  I went there quite a few times. First times were early sixties, got lost once when I was a small child on the way to the coach. Last time I went in the mid eighties I only stayed for one talk was bored and we left.

  if you were somehow magically put in-charge of the governing body tomorrow, by jesus, with the rules being, you could not teach anything that would be considered outright apostasy and you could not teach anything that would be considered to cause doubt about god's existence... (so as not to arouse suspicion).

  what "new light" or "clarified understandings" would you introduce first?.

  I just happened to watch the video the other day and what you state is the impression I had after listening to it. Watching it a second time I could only find at about 8:09 minutes into the video mention that he doesn't know if any of the people mentioned were of the anointed.

  Am I wrong did I miss something? (I didn't feel like listening to it a third time)

  i want as many minds put into this as possible.. there is a new argument among the extreme jw apologists, saying that even the disciples promoted mistakes.

  they base themselves on john 21:23. keep in mind, i am not a believer but i want the answer from a believer's standpoint, please.. .

  i could be wrong but it seems quite different to me.
  I understood that our preaching work of the good news was necessary for our salvation as we support those commissioned to do this specific work. ( Ezekiel 24:24, Romans 10, Matt 24:14, Matt 25:45)

  Arguing against a literal future millennial fule by Christ, some have claimed that such a teaching would chill the missionary ardour of Christians to make disciples of all nations. (Matt. 28:19,20) But not so! Today no people are more zealous in carrying out this missionary commission than are the Christian witnesses of Jehovah, who believe that the 1,000-year reign of Christ is literal and future. In comparatively few years these have grown to more than a million. Today they are carrying out this commission in 197 lands and islands of the sea and that in 169 languages. Last year they devoted 184 million hours to this work!
  And no wonder. What good news they have to tell the people! They proclaim the good news that the millennial rule of Christ will begin with this generation and that it will mean ever so many blessings for the people :..

  As I believe this was part of the good news, gospel that we preached it needed to be true. I don't think that what was thought about John was part of the good news that was preached or something that was believed your life depended on preaching. That's my view.
