I spent hours in the field service trying to help people to a knowledge of Jehovah. My mother spent hours over years talking to her twin sister about the truth I don't think she was 'someone who eagerly looks forward to the death of billions of people'

Eagerly anticipating the death of billions!
by stuckinarut2 insurely someone who eagerly looks forward to the death of billions of people (including babies and children) is not emotionally healthy?.
yet, that is the key belief "happily" anticipated by witnesses.... food for thought?.

Surely someone who eagerly looks forward to the death of billions of people (including babies and children) is not emotionally healthy?
Yet, that is the key belief "happily" anticipated by Witnesses...
I was a Witness for many years and in my opinion that is rubbish.

Interview with Jehovah's witnesses
by John Doe64 inhello i am john a student of naperville north high school.
in a comparative religion project we have to research a branch of christianity mine being jehovah's witness and do an interview so this is out to all jehovah's witnesses or former jehovah's witnesses.. what do you enjoy about being jehovah's witness and what do you enjoy the least?.

I am no longer a JW however I was raised as one and remained one for over twenty years after my baptism.
What did I enjoy about being Jehovah's witness and what did I enjoy the least?
I enjoyed feeling close to God and the least was anything that I was asked to do as a privilege like read in the meeting or be on the platform giving a talk or similar activities.
What was communion like as a Jehovah's witnesses?
We had the memorial of Christ's death once a year. I didn't enjoy the meeting although I had respect for the occasion.
My most important belief as a Jehovah's witness
To serve Jehovah to the best of my ability.
What effect did my belief have on my life?
It affected my marriage and my working life. I gave up formal education at 16 to be in full-time service and made my decisions based upon my faith. I think it probably had a good effect on my conduct. As an example one of my teachers came to the kingdom hall and told my parents that my behaviour in school was very good but it could have just been my parents that made a difference. Wouldn't have wanted a bad school report to have come to my father. So that is why I say probably. I think the belief has been an influence on our marriage.
My stances on homosexuality, abortion, and divorce
I am no longer a JW I believed and continue to believe that it is an individuals choice. I am a heterosexual male who was in good standing in the congregation all of the time I was there.

Do you need Art and Music in your life?
by The Rebel inmusic and art have been a big part of my life since i was a little boy, and although i was never able to play a decent guitar, i can paint.
my art teacher from college said " i was the most imaginative and constructive pupil she had ever had.
" i loved that comment, because in translation i realised it meant i had to work harder than other more naturally talented students, but the effort was always worth it.

Silent And Sweet Rebellion Going On Within JW Organization!
by lsw1961 inafter 1975, the vast majority remained as though nothing has happened.
but some left the organization.
however, there arose a third category who did not leave the organization, but brought a new view into their heart: jws are right in their core cause (gods kingdom as the solution to mankinds problems) but may or may not be right in their supplementary teachings, hence are not bothered about changes happening in this unimportant area..

Isw1961 maybe it works for you. I know someone with similar views. Doesn't really believe the teachings about 1914 and feels as long as they dont mention 1914 in witnessing they are fine preaching the kingdom message that JWs,preach. I'm not that way inclined and your posts make me feel glad I left. Thanks for sharing your views. -

“JWs are right in their core cause (God’s Kingdom as the solution to mankind’s problems) but may or may not be right in their supplementary teachings, hence are not bothered about changes happening in this unimportant area.”
Surely one of there core causes is the preaching of the Messianic Kingdom established in 1914 and that God's Chariot stopped by and commissioned them to do a work like Ezekiel in 1919. I believe at this time they became the faithful and discreet slave class that was to give out the food at the proper time. Which includes the understanding of the stand on blood, disfellowshipping, elder arrangements etc. Such an event could hardly be something that may or may not have happened. Either it did or it didn't? Then as the name Jehovah's Witnesses implies you are identifying yourself with this are you not? As being a Witness in the context of the religion means that you are whole-souled in you devotion to Jehovah and that would include supporting the anointed in the work and activities that they were commissioned to do. The message I understood is the good news mentioned in Revelation 14:6/7 which includes a judgement message as the hour of judgement has arrived. That is my understanding of it, surely this is the core belief if I am right that you support by your identification as a JW.
On another one of your threads you say this.
'We should take benefit from each and every organization, and ignore the rest.'
Are you saying that my family should remain a member of their religion and continue to attend church and just take the benefit of their organization and ignore the rest?

If I identified as a JW. I'm in for a penny in for a pound.
I respect the elder who insisted on talking to me that night many years ago that I mentioned in a previous post of mine on another thread. I disagree with him but he is real JW in my view.

Are Jehovah's Witnesses marriages even legit?
by Joliette ini ask this because of the circumstances behind why they get married and who they get married by.
i know people say that they are really in love, they love jehovah, etc, but are these marriages even legit.
i've talked to older jw's sister who are now widowed, some of them say that they were trapped in a marriages.

I found that my marriage was influenced by the belief that the end was near. dont know what difference it would have made if it wasnt, of course.
love is strange.

JWs have more good points than bad
by lsw1961 in1) many who were on the destructive path have been transformed by their teachings (this includes me who was once vicious, and presumptuous and atheistic).
2) equal monthly pay to all members of the bethel community regardless of whether they are bc members or sweepers.
this is something that still remains as an unattainable dream for the world.

I keep it to myself without publicizing what I believe and what I do not, thus do not disturb the peace of the community.
I agree with you.
However, I have found that on quite a few occasions some Witnesses have insisted on talking about their beliefs with me.
One elder when I first had a problem with the beliefs came to my house unexpectedly and I asked due to having small children if he could call later or we might make another arrangement to meet insisted with doing it there and then which we did but he didn't come into the house.
Another time some years after I had stopped attending and one of my children wished to go to the hall I took them. At one of the meetings an elder came up to speak with us and explained some of his beliefs then pointing at me he said 'you don't want to listen to him' My child was only just 16 and living in my house.
