"Freeness of speech"

this was posted on another thread (http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/topic/6040010839031808/christmas-tree-word-appreciation), but wondered about how others here would see this with one experience i had as an elder now as ex-jws.. when we were jw's we had to be extremely careful with what we said around the brotherhood.

if someone said anything out of the ordinary, relationships among the involved were halted immediately, or were never the same afterwards.

in this place, one can say almost anything without the fear of having a truck run over us.

when i sti'' believed this verse was alwas in my mind: faithis the assured ecpectation of things hoped for... the ebident demonstration of realities not be held.... .

yes it seemed to preach the scientic method..so ai thought.

the point is my faith was never based on 'i belive.....' i thought based on the bluecreation book we had the truth.. latley a witness sakid herewes 11:1 meant that faith is the evidence.... well f***his idea.. if jws start belebong ths nonesese they will never escape.

I'm unsure that I am reading correctly what you have posted. However I understand from the 'Insight' book that faith is the title to deed to the things hoped for, (which is relating to Heb 11:1) . Which would seem to me to be what the witness was saying and how I understand faith and which I think my being a JW was partial based on although I understand it more clearly but not totally now.

What did you have for Christmas dinner?

my inlaws are polish, though my husband is a 3rd generation american, but the food traditions have stuck around.. we have christmas eve dinner starting with red beet soup with sour cream, pierogies filled with mashed potatoes or saurkraut, ham, polish sausage sliced and cooked with saurkraut, turkey (that part is american), krischickies (likely spelled wrong) which are crispy pastries dipped in powdered sugar, and apple pie (also american.).

there are goodnatured threats toward bad children who may need to get their dupa busted (butt spanked) and therefore santa will bring figismachen.

i also love golabkis (ground beef and rice wrapped in cabbage leaves), but these were not served this time.

Do you believe in a personal God?

there may be a god, but i doubt he has anything to do with us now.

i cannot reconcile concentration camps such as auschwitz, which i have visited, and people praying before their meal, thanking him, who did nothing.

here is an example: frank has a kid named johnny.

'personal God' isn't a term i'm particularly familiar with. I remember my son listening to a Marilyn Manson song Personal Jesus and the it reminds me of that.
I looked it up on Wikipedia and as a Christian I probably do.
Although I have to admit I'm a bit lax in saying grace.

I'm not sure I understand your question. I'm not an apostate.

2.What made you start questioning the organization (the social cliques? The members patronizing attitude? The gossip? Some false prophecies you came across? The internet?...)

When I was a child I had to read a portion of the bible as I was sharing the truth with a child I was at school with. In reading portion of the bible I felt, alarmed/shocked/surprised as I read it differently to what I had been taught. I looked in the Watchtower regarding the scriptures and saw how they had explained it and accepted it but I refrained from sharing any more truth with the child.

30 years later the Watchtower made a change and it was now how I had understood it as a child. It caused me to no longer be able to join them in preaching.

3.were you strong in your faith or were you looking for the next opportunity to leave the organization.

I still am strong in my faith. My position is a result of that.

4.what type of jw were you(the zealous type? The Spiritually-weak type? The Moderate type?the Potential fader? The holier than tough type? The humble & well-meaning type?...)

I think different people saw me as different types. It depends how well you knew me. The elders didn't know me. They do now.

The X-Mas thing...

christmas means nothing to me.

i have no abiding, cosy, childhood memories of it.. i don't buy presents or cards....i have to be reminded.. i feel a bit weird.

people are celebrating and saying: 'i'm feeling christmassy.'.

The only memories I have are things like visiting my grandmothers house after Christmas with the other relatives there and feeling nervous in case I should give some impression I might have liked to receive a Christmas gift and then I would be in big trouble. Or going in field service on Christmas day. Fun.

I feel similarly. I don't like the decorations, most I find garish. The crowds. Best Christmas day was one year we done gardening and had a big bonfire.
