Were you beaten as a child?
by purrpurr ini've been confronting my mother with her dubious parenting skills (abuse) of me as a child.
particularly the beatings i would get with the wooden spoon.
not a light smack but hitting me as hard as she could for as long as she could.

What was your first public bible reading? And when?
by Mandrake ini perfectly remember that, rehearsing with mom, trying to read with enough emphasis and in a proper tone.
i was 5 years old, back then in 1996 i think, and the portion was james 5:1-13.... i found today that i still know the first verses by heart!!!
it's actually a cherished memory for me, i came to memorize those because mom had me starting the reading all over again until i got to read it properly... and in time!!!

I think when I joined it wasn't just reading it was a talk. 1966. I vaguely remember. Always hated the school and was part of it intermittently over the following 30 years. For the first 20 years I always got a g then I started getting wig then last few talks w and the last talk I wrote for my wife the elder had to explain afterward that we don't earn our salvation its a gift. Another w.

Another generation....
by joey jojo init has been 21 years since the 1995 article that pretty much buried the idea of the '1914 generation'.. remember those guys?
the ones born in 1914 that would still be alive when the end of the system arrived.. i'm glad i'm old enough to remember going from door to door, preaching this belief.
the reason i say that is because i have a lot of 'still in' jw friends and family.

Did you participate in a Drama?
by Hecce ini am bringing this up because even it was a lot of work, for the majority of the friends this was a rewarding experience.
camaraderie, joking, costumes, props and when the time came the celebrity status of being in the drama.. back in the 50s and 60s, conventions could be as long as 8 days and from about 1966 the dramas became an integral part of the program.
we had one per day and the brothers looked forward to their presentation.

i don't really remember any of the dramas. I remember in LA it was really hot and they asked people to take down the umbrellas. I didn't stay for the drama, I was still an active witness and wouldn't leave for another 15 years. I had a friend who was in one of the dramas, they left the witnesses a few years later. When I was a kid we were in demonstrations at the assembly and my brother gave a talk.
i was mentions in a public talk once as a good example but the brother had it wrong

Did Jesus really suffer? Really?
by purrpurr inso over the course of three days he had a trial which doesn't seem to have bothered him much.
he got whipped ok that would have been agony and then put on a torture stake/ cross/ whatever yes that would have been hell.
but he was on it for a day and the whole thing lasted for three days.

I have a book The Passion (Photography from the Movie The Passion of the Christ) on page 69 it has a photograph of a beaten and bloodied man and quotes Isaiah 52:14. 'Many were amazed when they saw him-beaten and bloodied, so disfigured one would scarcely know he was a person'
I had never thought of it being so bad until I saw that.

but they stand firm on 1914
I can't see how they could change this although the last elder I spoke to disagreed with me. As witnesses and proclaiming this good news as a witness I think it would be a false witness they have proclaimed if they if they change it. When you look up the word 'witness' in the Insight book it says see legal case and under legal case it cites De 19:17-21 and as it was a also a judgement message.
When we were raised as witnesses I think the generation teaching was not tied just to the anointed but was associated with the World has ended-Millions now living will never die that was preached when the anointed were commissioned in 1919 and as is pointed out in the Babylon has fallen book in 1963 there was over a million of the great crowd/other sheep so it could be true, then. However now it cannot at least that is what I think.

When you were really "in", did you have a pet idea that would steer wt into divine favor?
by prologos inwt writers ( klein) admitted at one time, that his majesty's doctrinal ship was zigzagging to find the right course, and many of us believed, that if we accepted the bible as true, cleaning up the teachings would establish the right bearing.
so: did you have a hobby-horse idea you were riding?
writing to brooklyn perhaps?
