1st evidence: the release of loyal jews from exile, made possible by the fall of babylon, foreshadowed the release in 1919 of anointed christians from spiritual exile.

2nd evidence: that year marked the beginning of the period when the anointed remnants were released from a form of spiritual captivity to the ideas and practices of false religion.

although having rejected such false teachings as the trinity and the immortal soul, they were still tainted by babylonish practices.

which religious leader is interested about the good news being preached worldwide at thesame level with the JW leaders?, Although they may claim to be honest and sincere, but what do their works show towards sharing what they knew with others?.

In the book Jehovah's Witnesses in the Divine Purpose on page 37 it quotes from the Watchtower May 1881 where Russell writes,

"But they heeded not his presence and call, as the shadow showed they would they would not, (the "Doctors of Divinity" mostly opposing it, as the "Doctors of Law" had done in the "shadow") After three and one-half years (In 1878) he rejected or left desolate the nominal church here, as he had done in the "shadow"...

It seems to suggested to me that Russell teaching the return of Christ in 1874 felt other Christians who did not accept this had been rejected.

The book then asks the question.

"Why would anyone who claimed to serve God want to fight against a message to the effect that the time had come for the Messiah to present himself a second time...?

It could be because it was false. It seems strange to me that the book would ask such a question in 1959.

In Matthew 24:23-25 it says,

"Then if anyone says to you, 'Look! Here is the Christ, or, "There! so not believe it. For false Christs and false prophets will arise and will give great signs, and wonders so as to mislead, if possible, even the chosen ones, Look! I have forewarned you. (NWT)

Mankelli do you think God and Christ would be pleased to have a message preached worldwide of Christ's second coming if it proved to be false? Or the birth of God's Kingdom in 1914 if it proved to be incorrect?

the truth that leads to eternal life was a bible study textbook published in 1968 and revised in 1981 (now out of print).. the 1990 edition of the guinness book of records included this book under its heading "highest printings".. according to the guinness book, by may 1987 it had reached 106,486,735 copies, in 116 languages.. .

Thank you for your suggestions to research the subject. I don't need to research the matter I already have and I was a JW through those years.

When I said "I don't know if it was a lie."

I meant according to this definition.

"a false statement made with deliberate intent to deceive"

I have no way of knowing what anyone's intent was. Everyone that I know who believed the end would come in 1975 had good reason to believe it. One of the reasons was as I stated we were supposedly deep in the last days of the generation that saw the sign of Christ's second presence. The importance of the end of 6000 years I don't believe was new. I think I'm right in saying that 1874 had been calculated as the end of 6000 years of man's existence. 1874 being calculated as the time of Christ's return.

I don't know if it was a lie.

I do find that many Witnesses seem to think the expectations of 1975 were due to many of the brothers and sisters making too much of what was said. Some Elders have said to me that they never said Armageddon would come only that it was the end of six thousand years of human existance.

In the Watchtower that you show Terry it says "the nearness of such an important date..."

If you weren't expecting Armageddon of what importance was 1975? Why was 6000 years any more important than 5999"

We already had one important date which was 1914.

In the Watchtower of 1974 Page 51. It says,

"Unmistakably, the Bible pinpoints 1914 C.E. as the time when the "kingdom of the world" became the kingdom of the Lord God and of his Christ. Before the generation that was then alive passes off the scene, the "great tribulation" will strike."

The Awake magazine of October 8 1968 page 12 gave this understanding of the generation.

"Jesus was obviously speaking about those who were old enough to witness with understanding what took place when the "last days" began. Jesus was saying that those persons who were alive at the appearance of the 'sign of the lastdays' would still be alive when God brought this system to its end.

Even if we presume that younsters 15 years of age would be perceptive enough to realize the import of what happened in 1914, it would still make the youngest of "this generation" nearly 70years old today."

On page 15 of the same Awake is a showing 1914 and 61 years from the start of the last days until 1975 end of 6000 years.

I think that this was what was meant when the Watchtower you show mentioned "the nearness of such an important date..."

Some I have spoken to and claim to know what was said weren't even born in 1975.

However in Zechariah 7:5 "When you fasted and there was a wailing in the fifth month and in the seventh month, and this for seventy years, did you really fast to me, even me?"

how do you explain this? What happened in the fifth month and in the seventh month that cause wailing for 70years?

" it says "god chose the israelites to be his witnesses.

I understood and I could have misunderstood, that the Israelites were witnesses of Jehovah in that they had witnessed his saving them from their enemies. Taking them safely out of Eygpt and into the promised land. Establishing them as a nation with him as their God.

Many in the first century were witnesses of Jesus in seeing the miracles and finally his death and resurrection and the birth of the christian congregation. Witnesses of Jehovah's purposes working out through these events.

In 1925 Jehovah's Witnesses had an article in the Watchtower "Birth of the Nation" explaining Rev. 12 and the birth of the "man child" as the birth of the new kingdom or government. In the book Deliverance with the scripture from Isa. 43:12 quoted in the front and in the chapter "The Nation Born" It says the the time for the birth of the nation was 1914.

This birth also meant the resurrection had begun. Those anointed members of the kingdom being raised to heavenly life soon after 1914.

I understood that they were witnesses of this. More of Jehovah's purposes working out.

As I had joined in the preaching of the good news of the establishment of God's Kingdom I was also a witness in as much I could see the remaining ones with the heavenly hope who were engaged in preaching this and the organization on earth that was bearing witness to it.

I no longer believe the resurrection started in those years.

What's The Biggest Difference In Today's JWs And The Witnesses From Decades Ago?

i believe today's witnesses lack zeal, resolve, "love" of the "truth"......just to name a few things.. years ago, witnesses were excited to knock on doors and tell people they were gonna die if they didn't accept paradise.. now, when you see jws in service, they all look zombied out.. it's a slowly dying religion that will last probably forever like an ancient rotted out tree..

What's the biggest difference in today's JWs and the witnesses from decades ago?

Decades ago there were more JW's with a heavenly hope. Having this hope alters the spirituality of the congregation. Now many congregations have no remnant. The hope is earthly and more materialistic.

So you wouldn't have freedom of religion. JW's couldn't practice their religion as they see fit. It would have to pass the atheistic state board.
