What is spirit, exactly?
by Viviane ini've always wondered that.
recently i asked that question on another thread and didn't really get ananswer.
cofty made an excellent point that we often hear what it isn't, but that really isn't useful.. so, what is it?

"But the Basics haven't changed"
by Phizzy ina couple of days ago in town i met a jw guy i have known since he was a kid in diapers, he is now an elder and must be 40 yrs old, still a kid to me, though.. he gave me the spiel about "we would love to see you come back " , i said that i could not come back to the religion i had left as it no longer existed (a line i got from my friend bill), this elder replied that there "had been changes, but the basics remain the same".. i just was not quick enough with this one, i just sort of nodded at that and went on about what i simply could not swallow as "truth".
overlapping generation etc etc.. what he was meaning by the basics being the same is that nothing has changed on the "what jw's don't believe in" front, i.e trinity, immortal soul etc.
the reality it is that the basics of jw/wt teachings about what they do believe in have all changed !.

for me the basics is 1914 and that hasn't changed.
if that changed then 1919 is off and so is 1925 or whenever the 1300 something days of daniel ended they were never commissioned to do anything

i don't know. i was counseled a few times.
one time i was asked to come in to the small room and the elder told me it was reported i had been seen leaving a sisters flat quite late in the evening. i said i'll be more discreet next time. didn't want them judging me.

i remember when i returned to the meetings after about ten years of non-attendence i found myself sitting there and thinking this is basically just as boring as it always was.

One thing about this site that bothers me
by keyser soze inthe constant references to 'window washers' as something derogatory.. i understand the context of it-that most jws are uneducated, and unqualified to do much more.
but sometimes the references seem snobbish, almost mean-spirited.
one poster, on another thread, essentially referred to window washers as 'losers'.

i dropped out of high school and planned to years before i was 16 so i could pioneer. i also became a window cleaner some years later. both were related to having faith.
i had faith in the good news, i believe paul asks the question "who put faith in the thing heard from us?" (Romans 10) which i believe was a quote from isaiah. The good news of the *"times of the Gentiles ended in 1914 C.E. amid the first world war and that then Jehovah's "Servant" received a new elevation by being exalted to the throne of the Messianic kingdom"
i was good at art. in my last year of high school i had a lot of art classes and scheduled my time to go in the field service after school as my day was short. the art teacher gave me my own class room all year to work on my art project separate from the rest of the class. ( not a good idea for a 15 year old) i never finished it got a b. a science teacher asked me to paint a picture for her and wrote me a letter of thanks telling me i must nurture my talent and my english teacher asked me for an illustration that she had published. i later worked for a small publisher in the art dept. with 7 others doing illustrations etc. the opportunity came up to join another brother in window cleaning and i jumped at it. no more bad worldly associations.
i'd also been encouraged at one point in my late teens by a brother at the hall who was going to a very good art school to go as well i thought it was nuts i'd never finish with the end so close. my cousin also who was in england encouraged me to go an said he would help to get me in where he was going. i turned him down.
At the time some in the congregation were pursueing higher education i couldn't understand why if you believed the end was close.

i think mental stamina is required. i found to do 10 hour days often in 80f weather with no one to talk to or to work in biting cold below freezing windy weather with cold water and ice cold aluminum laddars with no gloves just as it was to work for hours in the field service pioneering in such conditions

in the book Jehovah's Witnesses Proclaimers of God's kingdom (1993 WTB&TS) on page 12/13 it says,
So a witness relate facts from direct personal knowledge, or he proclaims views or truths of which he is convinced.*
*For example, some first-century Christians could bear witness to historical facts about Jesus-concerning his life, death, and resurrection- from firsthand knowledge. (Acts1:21,22;10:40,41) However, persons who later put faith in Jesus could bear witness by proclaiming to others the significance of his life, death, and resurrection-Acts22:15.
I believe the witnesses have proclaimed the establishment of God's Kingdom in 1914 therefore I don't see how they could change it although recently an elder told me if it was 20 years later it wouldn't matter. i think it would.

What is the biggest regret or source of resentment because of being a Jehovahs Witness?
by stuckinarut2 ini'm sure we could all write long paragraphs about this question, but in a few words, what is your biggest regret, or frustration in life due to being a witness?.
what missed opportunities did it cost you?
.

i think the biggest source of regret is simply that i had to leave after a half a life time of putting kingdom interests first and going without for nothing and i couldn't go back even if i wanted to because i can't join in the preaching. i tried.
