Women elders, what difference would they make?
by Freedom77 inokay, let's do a big what-if: suppose the gb for its own unfathomable reasons suddenly got new light (tm) and decided to start appointing women elders and ministerial servants.
they would, of course, refer to the examples of junia (apostle), and priscilla and phoebe (deaconesses in wordlyspeak) in the greek scriptures; never mind what mental somersaults it would take to get them there.
stranger things have happened in wt history.. that being the case, would having women in positions of real authority make any significant difference in the congos or in the borg as a whole, and why or why not?.

I think i would be equally as bored hearing a woman give the Sunday talk as i was listening to a man there would be no difference

Balancing the Mix of Healthy Spiritual Teachings and Questionable Doctrines as JW
by ProfCNJ inif you are a current or active jw, you cannot help but feel you are in a bind.
while you have discovered the truth about the truth and has continuously researched on it, you cannot help also but to regard the fellowship inside, add perhaps those encouraging teachings which build up faith and spirituality.. the reality is you cannot just turn a blind eye on the goodness in the organization too or shall we say some of its members who are also standing by you.
somehow, you felt the fds food is helping you in a spiritual sense.

Convention Season-"Saving Good Seats" & Other Embarrassing Behavior
by Darth Fader The Sequel insince it is the convention season (and i am not attending this year or ever again), and i have been seeing other posts about some of the goings on at the various ic's and rc's, i am reminded of some of the truly embarrassing behavior i have "witnessed" (pun intended) over my lifetime of being a jdub at the various conventions and assemblies.
probably the most disillusioning experience at a convention that i have ever had was one year when i volunteered to be an attendant.
all of the volunteers were asked to attend a special meeting a few months beforehand to get instructions for our duties as attendants.

i don't give it a lot of thought. it doesn't pay the bills.
but i used to say i was 'in the truth' and i didn't give that a lot of thought either. now i think it relates to the gospel.

Commenting At The Meetings---Did You Enjoy It?
by minimus inwas that important for you?
most people, i believe, forced themselves to give an answer.
i knew many elders and servants over the years being counseled because they rarely answered.. funny thing....my mom who is 88 cries if she doesn't give a comment.

hated it and i rarely commented. Once an elder called on me to try and make me comment i just ignored him. A girlfriend said i should always comment and even if i only raised my hand and said ' Jehovah is God' i should, irrespective of the question

If there was a pill that could open their eyes - would you give it to them?
by truthseeker inif there was a pill you could give to your jw family members that would awaken their eyes to the truth about the cult, would you give it to them?.
most would probably say yes.. but what about those who are completely institutionalized, the elderly, the super zealous, the geeky kids who have no friends, the misfits?.
some people need "boundaries", they need someone to lead and give them directions, they need a sense of belonging, even in an organization that has no social programs.

Mikado,
what good would it do to tell them their whole lives have been a lie and a con?
this is only a what if there was a pill thread, however they maybe able to help others not to do the same as them which would be a kindness.
in my life there were things that i did not do and things that i did do and things that i would have done if the situation arose based on my religion.
we have commented we feel somewhat lucky that we had children and didn't wait untill after Armageddon. when i left, although the blood issue had come up a couple of times, i'm glad it hadn't been worse or that an organ had been needed. i didn't pursue a career in something i was good at and liked and various things in courting and marriage would have been different. many times it was the older ones who were an influence in how i veiwed things. i still have a christian hope but i feel free to use my conscience more.
