    Hi,

What is "Truth" to you, in your life, in your mind?

The truth is rarely pure and never simple. -- Oscar Wilde, The Importance of Being Earnest

    Problem #1

If we all get to have our own version of TRUTH it can't amount to anything more than personal opinion.

That's like a circle being sorta round.

The problem with language and words is our dictionary reflects HOW PEOPLE USE words. There is no actual "there" there.

We have Aristotle's definition of Truth and I prefer it because it is thoughtful of how humans use language.

( Metaphysics 1011b25): “To say of what is that it is not, or of what is not that it is, is false.

To say of what is that it is, and of what is not that it is not, is true”

The problem with the above is in how WE USE it.

It has been my experience people hear something they agree with and say, "That true."

Facts don't seem to matter all that much.

Jehovah's Witnesses are another story altogether.

Christianity is, by definition, Christ-centered behavior.

With JW's it is not--it is Jehovah's Name centered behavior. There is an added+ refinement, too.

Jehovah as described by the leaders (GB).

Jesus is NOT the mediator of anybody among Jehovah's Witnesses except the anointed!

The Governing Body is the mediator for the Great Crowd.

TELL THAT TO ANY JW AND THEY WILL CALL YOU A LIAR for understanding their teachings better than they do!

Terry - You are correct on many levels, especially the Part about the Unaccuracy of Language.

It's my Current Viewpoint, that the only Absolute Truth, obtainable by Humans right now is found in Mathematics.

I will say this though, Terry.. You say that "Facts don't seem to matter all that Much" I assume that you are saying this, in order to Emphasize the Importance of Facts? However I'll ask.. What is a Fact? Where do True Facts have to Originate from in order to be Reliable?

I haven't been searching for Truth, for a Long Period of time, but My current Understanding of Truth is - "Truth is What we do,and not what we Know"

In Terms of Religion or Spirituallity, if One Person is a Jehovah's Witness, one an Atheist, and one a Budhist. They can all provide Facts to Support their Beliefs. Each of these people has a Guide to Follow, to lead them to Truth.

The Jehovah's Witness has the Life Example and the Teachings of Jesus

The Atheist has his Conscience and Creation to follow.

The Budhist have the Example of Jesus and Budha to Follow.

At the end of the Day, we all have the Tools to Follow in Order to Understand the Most that can be understood now.. Love,Humility,Self-Sarifice,Tollerance.

I think, in order of importance, my response would be this.

FACTS are descriptions of reality. To recognize a fact you have to line up these personal requirements.

    1. Willingness to be wrong (humility) when faced with evidence that something isn't the way we WANT it to be.

    2. A craving for the WHOLE STORY and not just the snippet that seems to go our way.

    3. Patience to read material (and opinions) which go against our preferred POV.

    4. Understanding all of our FACTS come directly from interacting with nature through our 5 senses. The rest is IMAGINATION.

    5. Recognizing the red flags consist of anomalies. A thing must be consistent to be true. Statements about real things can't

throw a red flag at you. You have to get rid of contradictions.

    6. An equation, in math, tells us there is a balance necessary between THIS and THAT on either side of the =. Without a perfect

balance of proof, evidence, description, measurement on one side and the TRUE THING on the other, we only have guesswork.

i don't give it a lot of thought. it doesn't pay the bills.

but i used to say i was 'in the truth' and i didn't give that a lot of thought either. now i think it relates to the gospel.

I think when something lines up with good. When something has universal harmony.

    That is truth.

I equate truth with unassailable evidence. That about leaves out any theologies or philosophies.

    Truth is a dim bulb.

Truth is our own perception of what is true based on our own confirmation bias.

Truth differs from person to person.

Real truth exists but who will ever see it?
