  Anyone Remember The Chaperone Thing?

  back when i was a lusty young lad of 17, a certain sister caught my eye - i swear that she could make her eyelashes beckon - and i duly decided to pay court to said sister.. however, it was not to be so simple.

  round about that time, it would have been mid-60's, the wtbts were having a real downer on anyone who wore a short skirt (not me), danced the twist or grew their hair (me) over their ears.. but, the worse thing was still to come.

  folks, i am talking about chaperoning!

  Oh the chaperone thing is just SO funny! And from what I gather, still in tact at least a couple of years ago. A prime example of this:

  About two years ago I was in my local supermarket and I spotted a bro from my old cong wandering about aimlessly. He didn't seem to be buying anything, just wandering up and down the aisles.

  Anyway, he spotted me and approached me for a chat. (Quite a few from my old cong still talk to me as I wasn't DF'd or DA'd even though I was baptized) This Bro is in his fifty's and is an elder.

  So out of curiosity I asked him if he was shopping (as he didn't appear to be) He told me that he had gone to his fiance's house across the road and because she was alone she wouldn't let him in. She had phoned another bro to come round and chaperone them and until he turned up this elder was killing time in the supermarket.

  So I kept him company until his cell phone rang letting him know that Bro Chaperone had arrived and it was 'safe' to go to his fiances house. Well. I had to laugh really.

  I'm a useless Apostate :(

  i've been lurking here for a while now, posted a handful of times, but this board has had a profound effect on me.. i have just finished reading coc which i would never have even heard of if it wasn't for this board.. anyway, in light of everything i have learned here, i have been waiting expectantly for the next unsuspecting jw's to knock on my door, just so i can er, 'enlighten' them.. about 15 minutes ago, just that happened.

  i answered a knock on my door to be confronted by two jw's.

  one of them i remembered vaguely from a neighboring cong, and the other was someone i knew pretty well from my old cong.. so what did i do?

  Thanks for your comments everyone! I supose in a way I didn't explain myself correctly. I think Rhett was closer to my intention, I wanted to stand up to them, I know I have pretty much no chance talking them round, as brainwashed as they are, but I wanted to tell them MY views and what I thought of the whole thing.

  I think that most JW's that know me locally have this impression that I still believe it all, and pity me for my inability to live up to their 'standards'. I just wanted to set them straight but instead probably gave them more reason to believe they have me sussed LOL.

  I did approach a family member (Elder) about the UN issue and persued it for a couple of weeks but I could sense he was getting a bit annoyed with me so I left it, but I DID show him some of the things from here, the UN Website listing JW's, and the conditions for NGO membership so I acheived that at least. :)

  I think I would stand a better chance if I was confronted on my doorstep by JW's that don't know me personally.. I could probably get some enjoyment out of that!

  Anyway, in light of everything I have learned here, I have been waiting expectantly for the next unsuspecting JW's to knock on my door, just so I can er, 'enlighten' them.

  About 15 minutes ago, just that happened. I answered a knock on my door to be confronted by two JW's. One of them I remembered vaguely from a neighboring cong, and the other was someone I knew pretty well from my old cong.

  So what did I do? I just STOOD THERE. SMILING AND NODDING. What a cop out!!! I can't believe it!! Okay so one of the women (the one from my old Cong) always used to put the fear of god in me anyway but thats no excuse is it??

  They did the party line; "Recent events show just how close we are to the end of the system blah blah blah blah..." And I just stood there and didn't say a word.

  Oh well, back to the drawing board! I think I need to spend a bit more time here in preperation for the next time!

  she surprised me today by going on kent and randy's websites and reading them -- she did this for most of the day.

  now she is reading crisis of conscious.

  Back in my JW days I used to spend days, no weeks trying to work out all the 'technical stuff' and alot of my questions have already been mentioned in this post..

  How about communication as well? How will the big brooklyn boys get their orders, er, information to the far flung corners of the earth? Will there be tv? Radio? And that number one instrument of Satan, the Internet?

  Awww, not to worry about these things, just go stroke a lion or something....

  BBC TV show 'Casualty' to deal with JW & Bl...

  i'm new here and have been lurking for a while but i have just seen something on tv that interested me.. there was a trailer just shown for this saturdays episode of 'casualty' (uk hospital drama series for those not familiar with it) and to me it looks like they may well be dealing with the jw blood issue.. it has been dealt with before on this programme, quite a long time ago and i can't remember the details.. i don't know for sure, i may have it totally wrong but the trailer showed a scene with a doctor protesting that she had to treat a patient or else she would die, then her husband saying 'i don't believe you' and a couple more little things to suggest that it could be about the blood issue.. then the announcer at the end of the trailer says something like 'new blood in this weeks casualty' (or something like that).. like i said, i'm not 100% sure, but i for one will be watching just in case.

  it will be interesting to see how it is dealt with.

  Simon, yes you could well be right. Maybe I am so engrossed with JW issues lately that I read it into anything lol. Still, it *could* be related.. Have to wait and see.

  And you only watch Holby City because of that Chloe character? Tut tut... You have obviously overlooked the lovely Duffy in Casualty then LOL

  Englishman, I have my own theory on Eastenders. I reckon that there has been a JW family living on the square for years.. Only problem is you never see them because on Tues & Thurs nights and Sunday afternoons they are all at the meeting. Coincidence? I think not! LOL
