Are we on the brink of another world war?
by slimboyfat ini don't want to be an alarmist or anything... .
but i read this article in the economist today that argued it is only a matter of time until china and japan exchange shots over some small islands in between the two countries, it could escalate to full scale war, and the united states is treaty bound to come to aid of japan.
on top of that the united states is making diplomatic visits to various countries borderning china in a move that is viewed extremely negatively in beijing.

Why not just do thirty hours ministry because you want to?
Why only do it to gain a label?
My goodness they're cynical!

Another sad non jw falling for a baptised jw girl story
by spirituk inok ,so this is my story , this jw girl came on vacation in my country as a friend of my girl-cousin who is not a jw but were classmates at uni .
my cousin introduced her to me but she didnt tell me that she was a jw from the very first moment we flirt each other.we went on beach ,on bars ,cafes etc and she acted so wordly ,in fact i thought she could be a good one night stand with her behaviour .never saw anything weird about her that could lead me to question something, with the peak in the club where we danced together while hugging very passionatly .
i tried to kiss her that night but she kept her distance , i didnt notice any bad on that.anyway, next day we flirt again at the the beach and at night too .

I've heard it said many times by JW women that they prefer non-JW men because they are more 'manly'.
I can understand that.
Unquestioningly following what another man tells you and allowing your wife and kids to do the same is not a very manly or masculine way of going on is it. I've even heard sisters exclaim that there are no 'real men' in the congregation.
I am certain that this is why so many JW women/girls look 'outside'.

"I just want to keep them alive."
by cedars indoes anyone ever feel this way when they see older family members (parents, grandparents etc) growing old or experiencing failing health?.
do you ever feel that you should be able to somehow keep them alive - and feel frustrated and hopeless that you can't?.
cedars.

Yes Cedars, I do know.
I lost my mother to cancer not long ago.
Watching her suffer and being unable to do anything about it made me feel worse than useless.
For all my strength and determination I was powerless against it.
I know that I will carry it for the rest of my life and in some ways I am pleased to do so as I will never forget.
I think that being brainwashed into believing I would never see my parents grow old and die made it harder to accept. The realization that I had been lied to is a bitter pill to swallow I'm afraid.
A beginning has an end of course.

What about Father Christmas, are we to believe that he also is just a work of fiction?
I just don't know what to believe anymore!

Are you now ashamed of how gullible you were as a JW?
by biometrics innow that you realise how idiotic some of the jw beliefs are/were, do you feel ashamed of how gullible you were to believe them?.
if anything my past as an adult jw makes me understand how easily manipulated people are by the people and environment around them.
and that even intelligent people can be influenced beyond what is rational..
-
erbie
Yes, I guess I do feel ashamed of being so gullible. Worst of all, I let my children go along with it but at least they were happy when we left-better than a trip to Disney World I would imagine!
Anyway, yes, second paragraph: agree with you entirely. It has nothing to do with intelligence so none of us must doubt ourselves. I know people who are still following the WT who are seemingly very inteligent. Perhaps they all are.
I think of it this way; a mule is supposedly an animal of fairly low intelligence yet is very difficult to manipulate or train. Hence the saying 'stubborn mule, digging its heels in'.
A dog, on the other hand, supposedly highly intelligent, is very easy to manipulate the behaviour of, not stubborn but always eager to please its master for the reward of 'food at the proper time'.
Maybe the mule is actually more intelligent and consequently won't alllow itself to be manipulated and thus made a fool of

"Strong hope enables us to resist apostates and their gangrenous 'empty speeches.'"
by cedars inthose obviously aren't my words, they are from the latest study edition of the watchtower (april 15th, 2013) page 11.. .
it's nice to know that, not only are we "mentally diseased" - we are also now "gangrenous.
" since the society seems to enjoy using medical terms to insult us, are there any bets what the next published insult will be?

Yes, I think they got caught short a long time ago.
Hook, line and stinker!

Why is the New World Translation inaccurate/not reliable?
by XPeterX inhave you noticed any errors when it comes to translation or something added arbitrarily by the witnesses?if so,please post the related verses so we can see the differences..

erbie
I always thought it should be re-written in English.
That, at least, would make it more readable!
Very poorly written :(
But then, what do you expect from those morons?
A work of literature?
