Did your congregation have a "Pioneer Appreciation Day"?
by Coffee House Girl inmy mom (who is now a regular pioneer) has been laid up after having major surgery, and i assert my "biblical" rights as a daughter to do what i can to take care of her, so i have been trying to go to her house on my day off to vaccum and run errands for her since she is not supposed to drive.. she called me last saturday to tell me that i couldn't come by because she was driving to her pioneer appreciation day get-together, wtf .
i'm just curious if this only happens in my area (michigan, us)????.

Never heard of it in all my life. If they are shown appreciation they won't work as hard. And we can't have that...can we.

innocent and fun
Exactly. We were all innocent and we were all having fun. Tell me what is wrong with that. No one left the skating party either drunk or pregnant - or both.

I never understood why having fun was such a bad thing. Never.
We had an elder once who was so afraid that someone would either get drunk or pregnant at a JW party. He just couldn't take that risk.
BTW, our skating parties were on Sunday night.

I have many fond memories of the weekly skating parties. Especially "couples skate!" I can't hear Nights in White Satin" without recalling the thrill of the couples skate.

I was always told that the world would be a much more violent place if it wasn't for the mediating force of religion. But perhaps that is not a correct axiom. May be this is what John Lennon had in mind when he wrote Imagine."
Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people living life in peace -

Two circuits in Ohio dissolved!
by kneehighmiah inannounced that two ohio circuits are to be dissolved including 5 congregations.
congregations in the dissolved circuits will be assigned to two existing circuits.
the excuse the letter offered is that people are moving, or that people are retiring and leaving the area.

It may be related to the economic devastation of the Midwest. This was the heart of the industry complex of the U.S. I grew up in the Midwest, my father and most fathers worked in factories. Those factories no longer exist and people migrate to where the jobs are.

Topics not often discussed now
by jdubsnub inwhen i was a kid in the early 90's there always seemed to be a mention of how demons posessing people or how if you saw a demon or something supernatural occuring mearly calling jehovah's name would rid you of the situation.
rarely now a days do you hear anything of the sort.
that got me to thinking, what are some other topics the society has backed off of?

The rule that I always heard was that the truth does not change unless specifically stated. We were also told that the 7th day started with the creation of Eve and that 6000 years of human existence ended in 1975. So we were waiting for Adam to name the animals and figure out he needed a mate. I guess Adam was a slow learner. I never heard a refinement to this "truth."

The scripture in Matt 24:15 where it says:
...when you catch sight of the disgusting thing that causes desolation, as spoken about by Daniel the prophet, standing in a holy place (let the reader use discernment
Growing up in the 60s and 70s this scripture had fulfillment to a specific event when religion gave their allegiance to the UN. Then the events of Matt 24 were altered, this is one that was never addressed again.
What is the latest new light on this scripture?

Do You Consider Yourself An "Apostate"?
by minimus ini don't.. i consider myself a truth teller.. the watchtower society appears to be more "apostate" than even "christendom"..
-

Given the fact that I have no intention of trying to convince anyone that they do not have the truth, I don't fit the category of an apostate. Doesn't it have to do with"drawing away others?"
It was quite a struggle to get to where I am, I am not sure I want the burden of showing someone they are wrong without being willing to stick it out to the end. I got my own stinkin problems and really don't have time to have the burden of the struggle of others.
