I remember the Truth Book campaign where we were only to study for six months. The time was too short to prolong a study beyond that time.

Were you 'alive in '75' and how was that year for you?
by punkofnice ini was a junior borgite in 1975. i remeber looking at the calendar at work in october and thinking: 'armageddon isn't here yet.....and it doesn't feel like it will be here anytime soon either!'.
i was surprised that jehovah hadn't obeyed the superior command to bring the big 'a' as instructed to him by fred franz.
how dare god disobey the jw leader!!!!!.

Very interesting comments about N Knorr. I heard rumors that suggested he did not buy into the company line, but I never had this articulated as well as in this thread.
Thanks to all for these comments.

Growing a beard!!
by ILoveTTATT ini am doing one of my dreams for a while: growing a beard.
it may not seem like much, but it's quite the experience for me.
it's probably a rite of passage from jw to exjw lol.. besides the itchyness, i hate it that it curls so much (i have hairs that naturally start to curl after a certain length).. anyone here have tips on taking care of a beard?

Beards are cool, especially on guys. :D
I agree, bearded women - not so cool. BTW, don't get confused by the beautiful asian woman in my profile. I am a grumpy old man who grew up in Indiana - with a beard. The beautiful asian woman is the love of my life, and my retirement plan.

I like my beard, but I look old. Not shaving every day is great. Usually when it get to about a half inch, I shave ans start over.

Good question. I am faced with this constantly on the subways of NYC. Rarely, do I contribute the panhandlers in the subway. I sometimes do, but I have to be really impressed with the plight of the individual. I have been around long enought to spot the professional panhandlers - and there are many.
As a side note, I was walking to the grocer a few days ago , it was cold and snowy and a homeless man clearly needed a meal and asked for help, but I ignored him. That was one situation where I felt I did not act appropriately. I should have helped the person out.

Jehovah WILL provide......
by quellycatface inhi guys.. just found out today that my landlord is selling my apartment.
he says he selling it with me as a sitting tenant, so should be okay.
i'm still a bit apprehensive as i've been here nearly 8 years and my son is in year 9 at the local school.. my mum's words of wisdom, were, of course, "jehovah will provide.".

I have relied on Jehovah and I have relied on Satan. My vote is for Satan.
In any event, the purchaser is looking at this property as an investment, you are part of the cash flow equation. Your concern is what your next rent increase will be when your current lease is up.
The good thing is that hopefully the purchaser understands how important a legitimate renter is, even if the rate is slightly less than market. Hopefully you pay your rent on time. That is pretty important from a landlord perspective.
Good luck and I hope the demons are on your side.

Thank you for bringing back to life this discussion, I am sorry I missed it when it started.
I was 18 in 1975 and graduated highschool. I remember when I was about 10 or 11 I did the math and realized that 1975 aligned with my graduation.
The unspoken fear of the youth at that time was Armageddon would come before we could - drive, graduate, or have sex. Those fears weighed heavy on me.
There were more than a few children that were taken out of school because the end was so close, I remember having conversations with some about what I wanted to be when I grew up and the response always was - don't worry about it the end will come long before you become an adult.
It was a absolutely miserable time to grow up and makes me angry to think how much of an impact the watchtower lie had on my life.

Why doesn't Jehovah just destroy Satan and the demons then leave humanity alone?
by yadda yadda 2 indid you ever wonder that as a jw?.
if all the trouble on this planet is down to satan and the demons, why not just get rid of them and then leave humankind alone and see how we go from there?
wouldn't a god who "is love" (1 john 4:8) full of mercy and justice at least try that first?

People love conspiracies, the great conspiracy between god and satan is a source of endless discussions in the name of religion.
If what could happen as you suggest actually did happen, there would be no religion - and really, what fun would that be????
