The rules state that they need to remain in good standing with the local congregation - so they get kicked out. I wonder if they monitor internet sites visited.

Data-dog I like the idea, count me in as an investor. Since everyone dies, the world is our market. I also like the name of the business. Although the after-life business is cut-throat and very competitive.

Don't confuse not-for-profit with not making a profit. NFP only means that the organization complies with specific IRS requirements and gains the benefit of being tax exempt. They need to justify that they are providing a "public good." Much of this is outlined in their public document - the IRS 990 report
NFP organizations can be very profitable. And directors can receive substantial monetary benefits.
However, there are no shareholders and the equity is not owned by individuals.

I worked in that industry for years as a consultant/CPA. There is money to be made. However, the problem is finding people with money. There is no money once the patient converts to Medicaid.
They will be marketing to JWs who did not buy into the watchtower counsel to not plan for the future. Isn't that ironic?

If you look up the organization on www.Guidestar.org and find their IRS 990 form you will see that Judah Schroeder is the secretary. None of the directors appears to receive a salary. This appears to be a legitimate not for profit organization. They reported donations of 230,000 in 2011 and 3,500,000 in 2012, which seems a bit unusual.
If you cannot find the IRS form, send me a pm and I will email it to you.

I have a lot of stinkin things to worry about in my life; getting a call from the local elders is not on my radar.
I am long forgotten, which is exactly where I want to be.
In case they do visit me, as long as they take their shoes off when entering my home, they are more than welcome.

Were you 'alive in '75' and how was that year for you?
by punkofnice ini was a junior borgite in 1975. i remeber looking at the calendar at work in october and thinking: 'armageddon isn't here yet.....and it doesn't feel like it will be here anytime soon either!'.
i was surprised that jehovah hadn't obeyed the superior command to bring the big 'a' as instructed to him by fred franz.
how dare god disobey the jw leader!!!!!.

Your spirituality was judged based upon the committment of your belief in 1975.
I also remember during the early 1970s the rumor was spread that 1975 was too conservative. Things would be wrapped up long before then. And, who cannot forget the rumor that vultures or other birds of prey were multiplying at a rate much higher that prior periods. This of course proved that god was setting the stage for the massive clean up work after the big A.

So George Takei posted a JW pic on his Facebook
by ilikecheese inhttp://www.facebook.com/georgehtakei.
it's just a silly door-knocking related picture, but it's generated a bit of arguing about how he shouldn't make fun of them.
plus there are some apologist/"apostate" facebook wars... the best kind of wars, right?!

Some of the comments to the picture were highly entertaining. This one sounds like a nice fellow:
I once had a JW knock on my door while I was trying to fix my heater. He came in and fixed the heater. Nice fellow and his wife from England. Not sure if he is one of the 144,000 that gets to go to heaven but he gets my vote.
