Once you get a jw to admit that the watchtower is not "inspired" you end up with nothing. Although they will use the word - "spirit direct," which is meaningless.

If you substitute 'Governing Body' and 'faithful and discreet slave' to
by ThomasCovenant ina single member of the governing body, for example david splane, i find it helps me to understand things a little better.. they have changed the meaning of 'faithful and discreet slave' to basically just 'the governing body'.. but that still allows them to print nice friendly 'we' and 'they' when giving directions (orders).. "we need to obey david splane to have jehovahs approval.
"[a mature christian] does not advocate or insist on personal opinions or harbor private ideas when it comes to bible understanding.
rather, he has complete confidence in the truth as it is revealed by jehovah god through his son, jesus christ, and david splane.

Creationism or evolution, or do I believe in god
by moley inin the past year or so i've been completely evaluating whether i believe in god.
i studied marine biology at uni for the last 3 years and it completely change my view on evolution.
even when i was in i believed in evolution to a certain extent (ie the flood made no sense, the earth being 60000 odd years old etc etc) and this has made me question the existence of god.

Here is my perspective - for what it is worth. I would love to debate the scriptures, I just don't believe them anymore. However, I am not sure I am "cool" enough to be an atheist, nor do I have time to formulate any specific beliefs. At the end, my general feeling is that I got my own stinkin problems and really don't have time to solve the problems of the cosmos.
If that is a cop-out, so be it.

This video has been posted around at a number of sites, I can't watch without smiling - and I rarely smile.

WTS soliciting donations in Southern California
by turtleturtle injust talked to an older jw in my old hall.
he said there was a special 2 hour elder's meeting recently in southern california spanning many counties and areas.
apparently, due to the massive jw growth, the rbc or wt (he didn't know which one) will be announcing they they are asking each family to contribute $10/month toward new construction of kingdom halls in the southern california area.. .

If there is growth - it is coming from imigrants from Mexico. The spanish congregations usually have the growth.

An interesting site. I have met many of those listed and have probably heard more than a few of these talks already.

The old codger that lost the $45.06 didn't get his hours in. Jehober simply transfered the funds from the unfaithful to the faithful. What's wrong with that? That is a blessing in my book. I still have my $45.06 so I guess I am not on god's shi* list.

The official document the organization provided to the IRS states the all residents must "be in good standing with the local congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses." This opens an interesting discussion as to how this provides "communitybenefit," which is a requirement to maintain NFP status.
Old people get pretty cranky - I wonder what happens if a old codger crosses the line and gets reproved.
As a side note the IRS document states the organization was established 12/3/2010. Not sure if that bit of information is valuable, but it is what it is.
BTW, this is a great business model - I wonder if we should create an assisted living home for apostates. I am sure it will be much more fun.

I am sure they make a point to ask checks to be made out to the "world wide work." This way the funds are not designated and they can do what ever they want.

There is a George Carlin line that goes something like - God is all knowing and all powerful, he just can't handle money - because he is always asking for more.
So, now we know why they keep asking for more.
