Microphone "Handling"

what is all the fuss about?

when i was still assimilated (i.e.

still in the borg, but wanting out every second of that time), there was so much emphasis put on microphone handling that it was almost unreal.

Great thread. I don't know why I missed it until today.
Does anyone remember when microphone handling became a means of control over the young brothers? I remember way way back (mid 1960s) that my sister and her cronies used to pass the mike. Later when the boys took over and we used to pick and chose who could pass and the schedule. The decision had nothing to do with hours of field service. This was long before the elders got involved.
Later in life as a MS and elder, the secretary use to print out the "time" report and review the list with the microphone attendant to determine who could and could not pass.

my g/f today asked me if i wanted to go to ny and tour bethel and wahkill (sp?

) and all the other buildings today.

should i go, or should we just save our money?

I went with some friends on a tour to the 25 Columbia Heights building and the factory tour on Adams street about two months ago when they came to NY to visit. We even had the "privilege" to eat with the Bethel family. Because the factory buildings are practically empty, the tour takes about 10 minutes. The 25 Columbia Heights tour takes another 10 minutes. They walk you around the halls and explain what takes place behind some of the closed doors. You can get through both tours in a morning. Thus, you have some quality time to see the real sites of NYC.
However, be warned. Most of these bus tours keep you in a hotel in NJ, which severely limits your opportunity to see the city.

I am looking forward to your reviews of these articles. As I was sitting through the study this past week I was wandering through the next study articles. I was especially offended by the pictures. A picture says a thousand words. Notice the last picture of the older couple pondering how they should simplify their lives. In the background were framed diplomas on the wall and two pictures of graduations on the coffee table. The message clearly is that the friends have veered to close to the world when it comes to education and it is time to reel them back to the fold.

I attended the WT study this morning. While there are many bethelites in the congregation no one made the comment connecting the 120 years to 1914. The comment was made "by the fact that we are 90 years into the time of the end proves that the end is near." That may not be the exact quote, but it comes close.
The most offensive quote from the WT was that the Watchtower has a circulation of 25 million copies. While it may be true that they print 25 million copies of each issue, that has no connection with how many copies are circulated. Does the "stacks" of mags that each publisher have in their home count as circulation? Once when our congregation had a "special campaign" they asked the congregation to bring to the hall any excess mags. We ended up with boxes upon boxes of mags.

what i can't understand is new york is, to me, the archetype of independent thinking - individuality.
