many of us know where we were during 9/11 or when john kennedy and martin luther king were killed.. it seems that when faced with ttatt, real truth is dismissed as "ol' light" or "an imperfect group of men" but from what i gather, many of you, at some point, were hit with a component of ttatt that shattered all of those cliches that allowed you to brush off the obvious reality that something was very wrong.

Great question. I faced that moment of truth and experienced a high level of anxiety, fear, and sadness.
I remember the exact moment, I got up from the computer (that damned Internet) walked over to a chair in the family room and stared into space finding it hard to even breath.

I went through the mental gyrations that you appear to be going through. Eventually I figured out that I got bigger stinkin problems than figuring out the source of live.
If you never get this resolved, don't consider this a deal breaker in your quest to happiness and freedom.

I always had the grunge look, even before the grunge look was cool (don't aske me is grunge is still cool). For me, the grunge look really meant wearing confortable clothes even when they were out of style.

I have not been very attentive to the football season this year. I may go to a local pub and watch the game, or at least part of it.
But I don't know who I should root for. I actually never understood the concept of rooting for a team.

Sorry, I digress, I have a strong resistance to any organization - whether it be religious, sports, or actually anything considered a "collective." I made this comment in another thread and I offended some. So, I apologize. Condsider the comment in the context of living in a cult for my whole life.

we get plenty of company men passing through our circuit, often filled with misinformation and lugging around a suitcase of guilt, they bring more guilt to the weak while praising the braggart pioneers and slapping the "righteous over much" elders.
why are the wrong people getting praise in this distorted community?
i know for a fact many of the elders i served with have issues with alcoholism, when "brother guilt" brought his emotional hurricane through our circuit, i had the chance to eat and help pay for his "seven shots of tequila", both him and his wife were not immune to over-indulgences.
There was an elder (and past missionary) who was df for drinking. That is the only case I was aware of where there was punishment.
I have seen the same stories in the congregation with alcohol. But how else can the r&f cope with life?

Elder sexually abusing daughters and step daughter - never punished
Elder stealing from contribution box - nothing done.
Elder forging appointment recommendation letter for his cousin (an elder) nothing done about it.
Elders son attempted rape IN kingdom Hall - the girl ran. Elders son moved away. Again, no action taken.
Elder gambling, allowed to step down with no furthur action taken.
Seeing a pattern here?
Like I said, the elder arrangement was the worst idea ever. Giving power to uneducated power seeking middle aged men has and will lead to big problems.
