is it possible to raise good kids with out religious morals?
by Princess Ashe inmaking up my mind on how to teach my son values in life seems to be an on going struggle of what is right and wrong.
being raised in a sheltered jw life until after leaving high school seems like going from one extreme to another of being over restrictive or under.
trying to find that balance.

I am not sure why society equates religion with ethics and morals. Ethics and morality are concepts that are separate from religion and are not tied with religion. Religious people can be moral and ethical, but so can non religious. The reverse applies.
So, I hope that I am teaching a moral and ethical framework for my child. I also hope she understands that you can be moral and ethical without being religioius.

I don't give a flying rat's arse what you or anyone else thinks about me. I guess I am very spiritual.
To quote a line from Eminem, which is one I try to live by: "f*&ck the whole universe."

JW's and depression
by FeelingFree ini was wondering how many of you suffered badly with depression when you were in "the truth" and if you feel your depression was related to being part of the organisation?
are you better now you have left or still have issue's?
whatever your experience's i would be very intrested to know (if you feel you can talk about it.).

I suffered terrible depression, guilt and a few other negative emotions when I was a part of Jehovah's organization (what a wonderful god).
When I learned TTATT, I made a personal resolution to remove negative emotions from my life - it has worked, for the most part.

Do You Think All JWs Believe Whatever Their Religion Teaches?
by minimus inthat same question applies to catholics, jews, islamists, baptists and so on.
.
just because you belong to a religion, does it mean you espouse every idea that they have ever presented?.

I doubt they really understand the "truths" outlined by the Watchtower. When I was learning TTATT, I spoke to a few people - not to convince them that they were wrong, but to help me understand. I was hoping that through these conversations I could understandy why the JWs had the truth.
I soon gave up. It was clear that they did not understand basic Watchtower concepts.

Will JW.ORG actually harm the WT Society Long Term ?
by flipper inmy son and i were discussing this yesterday over coffee.
since the wt society in previous years virtually demonized going on the internet at all for jw's - now wt leaders are doing a complete turn around or about face probably so as to " compete " or keep up with all the anti-jw websites that are out there to give the wt society point of view.. however- it very well may backfire on them as once people start doing google searches looking for jw.org it will bring up all the other websites dealing with any jw issues and in the privacy of their own homes out of curiosity i'm sure lots of jw's are going to want to check out some of these sites to see what all the " apostate " hoopla is all about.
i wonder how many jw's will do this and will it have an effect in opening more minds to other views ?

I wonder if they give specific instructions not to type in Jehovah's Witnesses or Watchtower in an Internet search engine.
The Watchtower was so stupid that they allowed Satan and his apostates to capture almost every derivation of the corporate and religious name as an apostate site; Thus, the internet is a mine field for the inquiring mind.
So, I agree that they are embarking on a very risky strategy.
Let's see what happens, I have known many JWs who could not spell their name. Perhaps stupidity is their saving grace.

1914 or 1934 ?
by Chris Tann ini have thoroughly researched the watchtower doctrine of 1914, and am convinced it is neither biblically or historically correct.
but every now and then i wonder how ironic it is that world war 1 did start in that year, also pestilence and famine perused.
maybe, just maybe the witnesses are correct.

It would have been nice if the Watchtower actually foretold something that actually took place. Where prior to 1914 did they foretell the events that actually took place? They identified a date, they actually identified many dates (but you never hear of those).
And isn't it a little embarrassing that they did not know there was not "0" year. That is a basic piece of information if you are going to do calculations.
