Using the depression card: Only when critical to family?
by JWdaughter ini just was reading a thread and it occurred to me that "using" depression as a way to deflect from wt obligations is a mistake.
it feeds their sense of superiority-because when you do finally leave or get kicked out, they will say how leaving jehovah ruins lives.
they won't do anything with you anymore in any case, but why feed their delusions?.

More misleading content on JW.org
by Anders Andersen inwhat is “the end of the world”?the phrase “the end of the world,” which appears in many bible translations, can also be rendered as “the conclusion of the system of things,” or “the close of the age.” (matthew 24:3;english standard version) it refers, not to the destruction of the earth or of all humanity, but to the end of the framework of human society.—1 john 2:17.. conveniently leaving out that according to current numbers and doctrine, 8.000.000 people will survive at max.. technically is not a destruction of all humanity....but it comes so close it deserves to be mentioned.. of course it isn't mentioned, because that would sound so extreme, cultish and unkind.
we wouldn't want people to get the right ideas about jw.organization now, would we?.

Yes the framework is gone - (and 7 billion people - but don't tell anyone at the door that cuz they will think we are NUTS and a Cult! Wait till they are hooked and can't get away!)

Would you say that its easy for people to replace bad habits with good habits?
GEEZE thats the best they can do?
And really - "better is the end of a matter than the beginning?"
Really - always - that's always true? That is an axiom for all situations all the time?
Wow the bible is sooo insightful - it must be written by god.Just come to the KH and you will stop smoking and stop being Gay too!
That's all I could take, cant watch more.
Thanks again wifibandit!

The Gladwell book is EXCELLENT - just reading the chapter about Goliath is fantastic - and also makes so much sense. If you think about it - it's so plain. The bible has drummed BS into all of us. There is a scripture about Up being Down and Good being Bad - well that's the bible making Stories and Lies into "truth".

The article ends with this:
There is no real basis for doubting the truthfulness of this historical account. It involves real people and real places.
Except that their is NO reason to believe it what so ever. No evidence at all really.
Some insist that Goliath could not have been that tall, but consider: In modern times, the tallest man documented was over 8 feet 11 inches (2.7 m) tall.
Now if anyone knows anything about the tallest man they are referring to - you would know that he would not have made a great warrior. Robert Wadllow suffered from a pituitary gland disorder, and that would not make him a mighty warrior, but a man who could hardly walk.
Also there is real disagreement to what the scripture says.
"Goliath's stature as described in various ancient manuscripts varies: the oldest manuscripts—the Dead Sea Scrolls text of Samuel, the 1st century historian Josephus, and the 4th century Septuagint manuscripts—all give his height as "four cubits and a span" (6 feet 9 inches or 2.06 metres) whereas the Masoretic Text gives this as "six cubits and a span" (9 feet 9 inches or 2.97 metres; Hebrew: שֵׁ֥שׁ אַמֹּ֖ות וָזָֽרֶת šêš ’ammōṯ wā-zāreṯ)"
Again another article asking you to believe something extraordinary without any evidence at all.Funny the depiction below vs. what a real person would look like Goliath is really a GIANT whereas Robert is just a very tall man. Goliath seems as big as a T-Rex:)

Did others experience this on the ministry or among JWs generally?
by slimboyfat insometimes it's hard to know if our own experience of jws was typical and what features were peculiar to our own area or the individual jws we knew personally.
i was wondering if others experienced this among jws:.
a few times on the ministry, when we were working wealthy areas with large houses, some brothers and sisters would make the comment that they look forward to taking ownership of one of these big houses after armageddon, when the worldly people have vacated them.

Yes - mostly when I was younger.
Since for years now its been Pounded into to us that We Wont get to choose where we live or what we do.
That sounds like paradise :) right.
