Why "... when it does touch on scientific matters [the Bible] is accurate" is bogus BS.

jws and other christians would often point to the handful of the bible verses that seem to be scientifically accurate as evidence of its divine inspiration.

but not surprisingly, they ignore the ones that are scientifically inaccurate, or when they address those verses they put a spin on it like saying the account is not a reflection of what the bible is teaching but what men at the time erroneously believed and which god allowed them to record in the bible.

would you believe a jw actually told me that!

I mean you could go on and on and on...

How about no mention of Microorganisms, or Insects being created.
How did the plants grow without what you need in the soil from insect or how about Worms (which are animals) that were created later.
How about bees? How did the plants pollinate?
Oh and what day did doG create Bacteria and Viruses?

It's almost like Genesis was written by Bedouins 4 thousand years ago who had no knowledge or understanding of basic science, chemistry, or biology.

Oh and by the way - the saying - 4 corners of the earth - comes from the bible. Why would a inspired writer say that about a Globe?

" in last night's conversation she said she was tired of the truth.

I think the Wikipedia articles are fantastic.
They show all the changes, crazy beliefs of the past "ha ha", the history of infighting in the GB, and on and on.

Just the facts of an encyclopedia can make the difference.

Another day, another cart

i was standing at a red light and i noticed the little cart standing there.

they're barely noticeable and when i continued there was apparently someone on the other side of the street too.

the only problem, the location is a very busy intersection which has virtually no foot traffic and they're hard to see to begin with, as you can see from my vantage point i couldn't even read the cart and three people next to them on this side and two of them on the other side.. .

I recently saw a cart on the boardwalk by the beach in 90 plus weather.

They looked like they had heatstroke.
Who in the world would approach them at the beach?

They looked insane!

when you confront jw's about what they believe they will often deny it.

such as "if your child is disfellowshipped then you can't have contact with them ever again".

If you took a congregation of Publishers - and gave them a 50 Question quiz on "what they are supposed to believe" you would get LOTS and LOTS of failing grades - most elders would not get 25 right.

it may be feasible to some to accept the bible's assertion that the first humans were tempted to pursue independence from god, especially since they were created in his image and he is independent from any authority.

"We dont mourn the dead"

i remember a brother making the above statement in regards to an elderly sister who had passed.

he stated we don't mourn or even visit grave sites because we have a hope that jah will resurrect the dead.

it seemed really creepy at the time, hell, even jesus wept when lazarus died.

I know 2 totally in JW families who had deaths in the family (before their time) who not only mourn - but more than 1 year later are destroyed by it still.

They are mourning worse than many of the "world".

Funny how just cuz you have "the hope" it doesn't always work as billed.

Where do I go now?

so i thought my purpose was to serve jehovah and get baptised.

where do i go now to get baptised?

is baptism even a requirement for serving god or was that just for the disciples and people of that time.

No i never felt the HS - I did feel great about really motivating or comforting people when I gave talks or parts. I was really good at it.

Currently I dont feel there is any reason to believe in a deity.

Yea purpose - who the F knows. Biggest lost after the years you cant get back.

Wanting Less Involvement (long newbie story)

i was raised a jw and am currently pioneer in a foreign language congregation.

i have been unhappy on and off with my involvement in this religion and am ready to step back again.

growing up i was always active but extremely reserved and a low hour publisher.

Thanks for telling your story. Of course its a very familiar to so many of us.

I loved what you said here - it is SO TRUE! I know I did and so many others did. Makes it easy to follow the path of least resistance with that thought that the New System is around the corner anyway so your not loosing out.

Sometimes I think I used this religion as an excuse to fail.

As for your other strategy:
DONT DONT just marry someone who is weak. Please find someone you love for real (outside the org)!
You will take the chance that he is not who you want really and that he may at somepoint want to be Strong in the Truth in the future - then your screwed.

Speaking of that. Start having sex as much and as often as you can (safely) - you will NEVER get these years back!!!!!!!
You can live a double life without getting caught if you are smart. Really you will regret it so much when you are older. If you already have regrets about it now, imagine what it will feel like when your 50.

If you marry out of the "Troof" to someone you love, it can be a good way to FADE.

KEEP THIS IN MIND! Someday you will have kids, you dont want ANY chance of them getting in the CULT!!!!!!
