The book of Ruth... destroys the bible
by HowTheBibleWasCreated inlets pretend two things:.
1. god (yhwh) exists.
2. the bible is his word.. now we follow genesis to judges ok... judges resets at chaper 17-21 but for the purposes od this posts lets ignore that.... ruth we are told lives in the time of the judges... ok no problem/ until the end.

I think its funny that people don't see Ruth as a Gold Digger. Like in talking to Naomi she would not have found she had a rich relative. And like it would not cross her mind that she could change her life by sticking to the old nag to get close to Boaz. And like she snuck into his room to warm his feet, and not to have sex with him.
During the BS lesson on that - did anone notice the AMAZING contradiction in paragraphs 17 and 20?

Why does it seem to be unhappy people who are attracted to the JWs?
by new boy ini have had time to think about this........... i was an attendent for many years.......... and looking up and down the rows at every family that was seating there in the khs........... no one was happy!.
i think of my mother (who brought this religion into our house)......she was one of the most unhappy and miserable people you would ever meet!
she was a spiritual orphan with few friends and no real family to speak of.. she got the "good news" back in 1950, that "the world" was a bad place and god, would soon be killing most everyone......she was thrilled!...............

Not only unhappy, but predominately poor or lower economic class, with very little hope of improving life status.
Almost always uneducated, and low information people. Thats what I have noticed in the past 10 years.
I don't know 1 college grad with a decent career who has converted in at least the last 10 years in my area.

Living as Christians at the C.L.A.M this week
by Truthexplorer inthis weeks meeting under the section - living as 'christians', starts off with 'repentance makes a difference', which is a talk given by an elder taken from w06 11/15 27-28 par 7-9. in a nut shell it discusses those who have been disfellowshipped and then show repentance.
it then goes on to discuss reinstatement and how a certain amount of time must pass by before this can take place.
it makes the following point in the paragraph.. 'a disfellowshipped person is not automatically accepted back into the congregation after a certain amount of time has passed.

So far I see no correlation to the CLAM with how to actually follow the lifestyle of Jesus. Do any of you?

No Sports Cars Please!
by snugglebunny ini read on a jw forum that jw's came in for disapproval if they drove either sports cars or 2-door cars.
the reasoning was that a driver couldn't easily take fellow dubbies out preaching in such a vehicle.
was that ever official policy or just local nonsense from a grumpy po?.

CO's never say thank you for the green handshakes
by suavojr inever noticed how co's and ex-do's never say thank you for the hard earned money they get from the friends?
they truly believe they are entitled to live an easy life at the expense of others.
this makes my blood boil!

God's Holy Spirit - Contradiction?
by sincerelymine inhere's the backstory: a jw posted a thread in /r/debatereligion basically allowing the community to ask him anything.
things got realer than he expected, i think.
someone brought up the failed predictions and asked if they would qualify as false prophecy(1 john 4:1).

You are right - this is a complete cop-out and contradiction.
Questions to ask:
1. If Holy Spirit can not guarantee the right course, what good is it? (a magic 8 ball would be as good)
2. Why is HS not strong enough to make sure the right thing happens?
3. If it is not a guarantee of the right thing happening, how do you know if your choice was ever the one HS wanted.4. Why was HS good enough to create the universe, make nations do gods bidding, cast out demons, heal the sick, raise the dead - but not good enough today to assure mistakes are not made.
The most problematic things is that it is always invoked. So if something happened either HS was responsible (i.e. you chickens didn't die and had lot of baby chicks - or someone worked against HS so it could not bless them)
The GB talks out of both sides of their mouth on this. In the same lesson they will state that there are no modern day miracles, then point to modern day miracles. They will say they are not inspired, then say that god is directing them.
The are carful to maintain Plausible Denial in all this crap.
