Conversation with a Biblical scholar - Richard Dawkins
by CookieMonster inquite interesting when you look at the bible objectively and the historical records.
it highlights the problems of using the bible as authoritative and validation of history.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lxcutg0lvr0.
spoiler: didn't know that the immanuel prophecy attributed to jesus as being born from a virgin is actually a mistranslation.

Would a loving creator give humans the gift of free will?
by Heisenberg inthey say ignorance is bliss... well, i wish that god did not give adam free will.
i am ok to not have free will if it means i will live forever in perfect paradisiac conditions.it has been explained that free will is a gift from god.

Exodus 34:14-26
1. For thou shalt worship no other god: for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God:
2. Thou shalt make thee no molten gods.
3. The feast of unleavened bread shalt thou keep. Seven days thou shalt eat unleavened bread, as I commanded thee, in the time of the month Abib: for in the month Abib thou camest out from Egypt.
4. But the firstling of an ass thou shalt redeem with a lamb: and if thou redeem him not, then shalt thou break his neck. All the firstborn of thy sons thou shalt redeem. And none shall appear before me empty.
.5. Six days thou shalt work, but on the seventh day thou shalt rest: in earing time and in harvest thou shalt rest.
6. And thou shalt observe the feast of weeks, of the firstfruits of wheat harvest, and the feast of ingathering at the year’s end.
7. Thrice in the year shall all your menchildren appear before the LORD God, the God of Israel.
8. Thou shalt not offer the blood of my sacrifice with leaven; neither shall the sacrifice of the feast of the passover be left unto the morning.
9. The first of the firstfruits of thy land thou shalt bring unto the house of the LORD thy God.
10. Thou shalt not seethe a kid in his mother’s milkI would bet a lot of money that no more than 1 out of 200 JWs know THOSE are the 10 Commandments!

How do I handle this situation?
by BarelyThere inhey everyone.
i'm sorry that this isn't a very thought provoking post but i could really use some advice on how to handle this.
there isn't anyone else in my life i can ask right now because, being dfed, all of my friends are "worldly" and don't know how witnesses function.

I would go to every meeting.
Sit in the front.
After 5 months - talk to the elders who were on your committee - tell them how sorry you are and how you want "jahs" blessing and love back. How you can't believe you let god down.... bla bla.
If they say its too soon. Rinse and repeat in 4 months.
The Elders have gotten lots of council to NOT reinstate people early. So its a waiting game.
This is you want back in.

Yes it's called Evolution that put it in our minds and animals minds to try and avoid death.
The ones who jumped in the lava did not survive to procreate much - thus evolution excluded them.I guess adam and eve were missing that instinctive gene.

Having Jehovah as a friend.
by Darkknight757 ini've always found it amazing that people can say with such conviction that jehovah is their friend.. we are talking about a "friend" who perhaps daily "tests" us to see if we are his friends.
all of us have dealt with some form of hardship such as the death of a loved one, chronic illness or whatever.
it is in these cases that the brothers will tell a person that perhaps it is a test, or that "jehovah knows you're not ready" or some other lame excuse.. do our real friends "test" us to see if we will be loyal to them?

Actually - your Hall friends do just that. Start missing some meetings, and things change really fast. -

I think it's all about eliminating Paper Trails.
Continuing to put all the Legal Burden on the COs and Elders.
"What an elder raped that girl? We at Warwick had nothing to do with that, talk to the CO Mr Judge."

I have free will not to jump into pits of molten lava. It is an easy choice for me to avoid doing that.
To bad adam and eve were so weak and ill prepared that they got fooled by a sock puppet and 46 words.
p.s. not that any of that happened:)

Abraham's offspring
by nelim ininteresting in a new video on tv jw org "edward aljian: an important reminder", from 6 minutes onwards.
he asks a question about abraham: "couldn't jehovah have spared abraham a lot of grief by telling the promised offspring would be by sara?".
jehovah only disclosed this when ishmael was in his early teens.

What is truth?
by Heisenberg inwell, i have been lurking on this site for several months and i recently decided to join as a member.
i have made several observations and would like to make a few comments.. first, i am perplexed by the attitude of many on this site that are either former or active (but apostate) jws.
they seem to have a strong hatred for the wts and also for rank and file jws.

The best and most honest phrase in the bible is when Pontius Pilate asked "What is Truth?"

6 Ways Religion Does More Bad Than Good
by jean-luc picard in"most british people think religion causes more harm than good according to a survey commissioned by the huffington post.
surprisingly, even among those who describe themselves as “very religious” 20 percent say that religion is harmful to society.
for that we can probably thank the internet, which broadcasts everything from isis beheadings, to stories about catholic hospitals denying care to miscarrying women, to lists of wild and weird religious beliefs, to articles about psychological harms from bible-believing christianity.".

Only 6 is a very abbreviated list:)
