to me, the key difference between a universe in which god exists versus one where god doesn't lies in the idea of teleology.
in my view, a universe with god entails some sort of process towards an end, an end which can be characterized with words such as bliss and unity and others.

i've been serving as elder for about 4 years now in a south florida congregation.

Many of us have been there man.
One thing.
Elders are still in process of sending my details to CO and branch, awaiting their approval for my resignation.
That's just paper work and now the CO is the one who gets notified. There is no approval, its not like they can say - no you have to be an elder. They are not making you do any elders duties still are they?

but let say in the year 2000 the wt says they have 1 million publishers and at the end of the year they say they had 300,000 people get baptized so in the beginning of the year 2001 they show 1,300,000 publishers.
then in this new year they state another 300,000 get baptized but with 50,000 deaths and 50,000 disfellowshippings they stated at the end of year 2001 a total of 1,500,000 total members.

Beyond being offensive, it just did not work on so many levels. And the subliminal message was - it's worse to not listen to us than to rape, murder, commit adultery, steal, or other "serious sins".
1. Not listening to elders or forming clicks = grieving the spirit.
2. Watching some types of porn "I guess gay porn or bdsm" = grieving the spirit.
How stupid and unsupported are those 2 statements.
When the moron puts Balsamic on the bread - and says it saturates it - it is OBVIOUS IT DOES NOT! I pools on top. If he cut an inch off the top it would be fine. BAD ILLUSTRATION. It was just bad all the way - it did not work and looked really stupid and silly.
Again the message was - if you F-around, wife swap, take drugs, steal, and you are sorry - it's ok with god, you can come back - we will help.
If you don't listen to all we say, and to the Elders, or form clicks (there has never not been clicks in any KH - but this is CODE for not having groups of friends that don't agree with us or have "independent thinking")
BY THE WAY - Since I was an elder for a long time - i know one of the things he said was COMPLETE BS. When he talked about if you sin seriously but are repentant - god forgives and its like it NEVER happened.
The BS in that is that at any elders meeting with wrong doing and especial with Judicial meetings - if a person has a history (i.e. a young person how had sex, and now does it again) it is ALWAYS remembered - and the whole "This person has a PATTERN of sin - and this person is WICKED and not weak" is ALWAYS brought up. NOT FORGOTTEN!! And thats cuz how Elders are trained. -

Quality of newer membership
by Lostandfound inon a previous post mamacita29 pointed up the low quality of new jw converts.. is the quality falling even more as the society use lower than low meeting, talks, broadcasts etc.. when i was active initially the organisation and standards seemed totally different today.
i have seen hard working intelligent elders fall by death or exhaustion.
the younger generation that came along never really grasped responsibility hence shortage of good elders, never mind the watered down to almost nothing quality of meetings.

I completely agree.
It all started with the book study night got cut. From then on the emphasis on teaching, and creating teachers (especially among MS and Elders) started to become systematically eliminated.
Even from a JW perspective (one with a head on his/her shoulders) has to see that that current meetings have almost no value. Meetings are just horrible in every way. Attendance will continue to drop, people in service will not get better at attracting people with a 6th grade school level or higher. It all seems about keeping power over those already baptized and getting kids baptized.
The Book Tart Carts have very predictably been a giant negative when it comes to conversion of people to the cult. Who the hell would go up to someone at a cart? Just more and more service hrs used in pointless and fruitless causes.
The only people I see getting baptised are older poorly educated women, and some kids.
The end cannot come soon enough.

Love how you could grieve the HS by watching some types of porn, forming clicks, and not listening to elders, but serious sin like adultery, rape, child abuse, fraud.. etc. is not that bad, you can recover from that.

when it was first published on thursday it took a while for some comments to show up and when they did there just eleven, which stayed that way for a while.
