i pass along this advice as a new topic, to get it past one off comments that may not get as much attention.. i exited the jehovah's witnesses about a decade ago.

like many, my personal situation felt to restrained to act on my impulse and get out quickly.

i took about a year and a half to two years to leave via da.. i empathize with anybody leaving the watchtower who finds it difficult to falsify dedication, interest, and belief in both their personal and public life.

I think I figured out their strategy with all the creepy videos

i came in during all the hype over 1975. the predictions about that date were the real driver behind all their activity.

since then, they haven't had a good goad to prod the sheep.

they seem to be smart enough not to try another date.. i think they plan to use fear instead.

Jeff - of course they are using fear.

But really what I think is going on is this. This is a big push against the internet.

HOW?

1) The end is near - the gestapo is coming - so to be loyal (and have dog on your side) you must - SHUN and keep shunning any who have been DFed.

2) Also all the "loyalty" massive push that is going on is about - DON'T look at anything said on the internet - Don't believe any news reports about Child Abuse in the org.

3) Don't listen to anyone but us.

That's how FEAR works for them.

It's all about keeping those IN - IN.

Help - I'm going to be conducting the watchtower study

it looks like i'm going to have to take the watchtower study for a while so i thought i'd seek help.. i wont be outing myself or stating anything too controversial, but so far i have come up with the following tactics : 1) ask questions which will get people thinking even if it is about something insignificant - developing a questioning mind is the key to discovering ttat as far as i am concerned.

2) highlight any extreme points so that some might realise they are extreme.

3) highlight any good points - helping others in need for example - just because it is the right thing to do.. if anyone has any general comments which could help, please post them here.

Home bookstudy ended because of 'independent study' groups? Any interesting stories regarding these types of groups?

someone suggested the other day that the home bookstudy meeting ended because of 'independent study' groups (in ireland) going 'off the reservation' and left the truth (tm).. has anyone heard of this before?.

does anyone have interesting stories of 'independent study' groups resulting in large scale apostasy?.

I was told by someone pretty high up in Bethel that one of the reasons for ending meetings at homes dealt with Liability issues dealing with accidents and injuries.

I'm getting disfellowshipped

hi everyone, a bit of an update here on my continuing disaster of a situation.. (refer to my previous posts for the full story) my mom met with me yesterday for dinner, it was nice.. however, she brought up the fact that because i live with my boyfriend and how everything has gone down, i will be disfellowshipped.. i think the elders basically have enough proof of this.. due to the anonymous tipper (still have no clue who it was, i live in another town 100's of miles away from my old congregation territory), and my mom telling them.

i'm not sure when they will announce it, or if they will contact me prior.. at this point i feel so emotionally dead i don't care- on the other hand, i don't want to be disfellowshipped because i do not want to loose a relationship with my mom.

that is the whole reason i tried fading out.. .

DJS - a legal response will do nothing - you would be shunned anyway.
It will just make them think apostate instead of weak person.

why murder 8 billion non-believers to just turn around and resurrect 20 billion other non-believers?

Yes Half banana - its 100 billion.

Like always the WT uses only stats they like - the 20 billion is a very very old estimate, that convenient for them, they never revised.

Why? Where would you put them? How could a major portion of them reject the "truth" after being resurrected?
And how long would it take to resurrect them then teach them.. bla..bla..bla..

I used the 100 billion figure in a talk once, and a elder challenged me on it (even though I had referenced where it came from) but he of course did not want to believe that any info like that could change in the 50 since he read about it in a WT or Awake.

Funny how this 1 thing can bring down the ENTIRE house of cards if you think about the logistics.
