First I've heard of it. Why on earth would it take over 30 years?

Worst for me were the terrible seats in the unbearable heat. No shade and hours at a time getting baked with no relief. On the flip side, at one convention it was terribly cold, this was in San Francisco, and the sessions at that time (early '70's) would go until about 9:00 p.m. The fog coming in off the bay was chilling cold.

Lillian Gobitas Klose, the Jehovahs Witness who refused in 1935 to salute the American flag in Minersville, Pa. started a trail that ultimately changed American legal history died Aug. 22 at age 90
by Sol Reform inlillian gobitas klose, the jehovahs witness who refused in 1935 to salute the american flag in minersville, pa. started a trail that ultimately changed american legal history died aug. 22 at age 90. only three years after it had ruled against the gobitas family, the supreme court voted 6-3 to overturn that decision in a case involving a family of jehovahs witnesses from west virginia.. regardless of what one might think of jehovahs witnesses, lillian gobitas is an example of a person whose willingness to fight for her beliefs has expanded everyones personal freedoms.. http://republicanherald.com/news/minersville-girl-made-legal-history-1.1744279.

Beth Sarim and Beth Shan - other boondoggles
by Terry inif you were a religious organization publicly identified with predictingarmageddon soon, would you be motivated to build large and expensive edifices or hideaways in foreign lands?such as:a $ 1,425,400 property in which a welsh translation center could be maintained?.
this looks like a pleasant location for doomsday, doesn’t it?.
maybe just a fortunate location for.

When did WT lose the spirit?
by Smiles inat what time would you say that the watch tower schema lost the spirit?.

Every person will have a different answer to that question. Each person accepted it at one time in their lives, goes through a period of strong belief, then doubt, then disbelief. For me personally, the disbelief came when I realized I had gotten screwed by not attending college, which came around 1980. Before that I would have thought that the religion was true and vibrant, after that it really started to fade fast.

Hiram built Solomon's temple.
by peacefulpete inother threads recently touched upon the temple description in the ot.
i've made comments to the effect that the temple designs mirrors that of other cults of the region.
additionally i wondered if the temple ever existed in the 8th-9th century at all, given the lack of archaeological evidence for it and the mythical characters and obvious embellishments in the story of it's construction.

There are some commentators who believe the’steps of Ahaz’ were actually something like a sundial used in sun worship. Seems more of a possibility if Hiram designed it as a copy of the temple in Tyre.

Yes, it is on the website, as well as the app that is used in the meetings.
I always wondered why the WT bothered to publish the Interlinear. At the time, they mostly were publishing books that were intended for offering at the door, ie: for sale, and the Interlinear wasn't something you could sell at the door. Only the JW's would be interested, and only a minority of them at that. The Interlinear had to be a loser money-wise.
It was patterned after Wilson's Diaglott, of course, which had been originally published in the 1800's and was often referenced by the Bible Students.

Funny, I did some of the same things, learning the Greek alphabet and a few words to be able to use the Interlinear. I even had a special copy of the Bible bound which had the NWT from Genesis to Malachi and the Interlinear for Matthew to Revelation. I still can't actually read the Bible in Greek (wish I could), but I can sound out the letters and use a lexicon.

Disconfirmed expectations
by Doug Mason inthe person may have prepared himself psychologically for an event that never eventuates, and, worse still, may have even made public his predictions about the event.
what happens when an important prophecy fails and dissonance is aroused between what was predicted and what actually occurred is described in the classic field study carried out by festinger, riecken and schachter (1956).
in the mid-1950s mrs marion keech, a suburban housewife, began to receive messages from outer space.

I just recently became aware of this book 'When Prophecy Fails'. It is quite interesting. This book was one of the first describing cognitive dissonance.
There is presently a pdf available free online.

Removing Historic Monuments and Statues - Does the Term "Historical" Make it Right or Wrong?
by RubaDub inafter further review and thought, i really don't see how removing a monument or statue that may be truly offensive to a large group of people is in some way rewriting history.. i think of germany or other parts of europe.
you don't see swastikas on buildings or statues of hitler or mussolini or other upper level generals in public.
would it be good for a person (think jewish) to drive around a city and see hitler in a public park, even though it is "historical?

If you took down the statue of everyone with whom you have a disagreement, you will soon have no statues at all.
