I worked for the USPS for over 15 years, and I can say from personal observation that it is poorly managed. Some good people, but a lot of bad ones. They are doing a pretty good job of destroying themselves, without the added assistance of politics.

What is REALLY behind the destruction of the Postal Service? I decided to research it ...
by Terry ini don't know about you - but i never know when i'm being lied to or told the truth any longer.
partisans are tribes warring on truth.
i decided to see what i could find out historically and this is what i've come up with.

Baptism during Covid - pool must tough the ground?
by jwfacts inthe july 2020 announcements mentions that baptism can be held in an “inflatable pool” as long as it touches the ground.
the pool must not be “on a terrace, flat roof, balcony, etc.”.
has anyone ever noticed that as a requirement?.

Must surely be for safety. Water is really heavy, and if anyone put a pool on a terrace or balcony it would exceed the weight designed for.

The “simplified” congregation donation arrangement
by slimboyfat indid anyone else experience a nostalgic throwback to the 1990s when the latest watchtower announcements presented their demand for increased donations from congregations as a “simplified” arrangement?
5. adjustment to resolved congregation donations: in the past, the congregation was presented with multiple resolutions to donate funds to the branch office in support of vari- ous activities cared for by the organization.
this arrangement has been simplified.

Transparency in Field Service Hours
by Earnest ini notice that in the recent instructions for new regular pioneers (2020-08-s-236-e) it lists a number of assignments for which a pioneer can be credited (up to 75) hours in a month.. these include:construction oversight, assembly hall oversight, assembly oversight, and convention oversight, as well as serving as temporary volunteers at bethel, commuter bethelites, remote volunteers, bethel consultants, hospital liaison committee members, patient visitation group members, disaster relief committee members, local design/construction department field representatives and maintenance trainers, and so forth.
approved assignments also include assisting with kingdom hall construction when such is done at the request of the branch office or its representatives overseeing the project, assisting with pre and post-assembly or convention work, assisting with work at assembly halls, conducting or participating in congregation meetings held in prison, as well as attendance at a theocratic school or class .
when i was pioneering and doing pre and post-assembly work i was told i could include the time spent working in my monthly report, which i did.

Likewise, the ones who are in Bethel are classified as 'fulltime' ministers, whether or not they actually go in preaching field service or not, yet they are required to spend some time in the actual ministry anyway. I personally observed Brother Poetzinger in the service once back in the '70's. He and his wife were doing street witnessing in Brooklyn.

Demons and the Witnesses
by corpusdei inok, this one is a little long, but i think it's worth reading.
in putting this together, i came across a fair amount of interesting information about the witnesses and their belief in demons.
there's a lot that i'll be interested to put to the next witness i come acoss (if any of them still quite dare to talk to me after last time.

Also relevant is that there was a craze in the 1920's about seances and contacting the dead. Lots of people believed in it. The WT came out against it and labeled it demonism even then.

JW.org Focus on the Past - Have Always Wondered?
by JWTom injust curious of others thoughts.....while watching the latest round of convention videos with my pimi wife it was highlighted again in the content how much the wt org.
has always focused on the past (in my opinion).
many of the historical events that are highlighted as significant are from 100+ years ago in some cases.

When I was growing up ('70's) there was almost an intentional ignoring of much of the past, they certainly didn't glorify it like they do now. Russell, for instance, was virtually never mentioned in the literature. Names of most of the leaders, whether Governing Body members, or previous Board of Directors, were not known by many. At that time there were still quite a number of former Bible Students around, they would picket assemblies etc (the original 'evil slave' class), and I think there was a feeling at the top that they wanted to distance themselves from the previous Bible Student movements. The big green history book was a bit of a shock to many, who had never heard of a lot of things in it. I think that book was prepared in direct response to Franz's book 'In Search of Christian Freedom'.
Nowadays it is very different. They are riffing off the doctored history they have created. They even have museums at the various bethel sites for people to go and goo goo over the WT glorified history.

I am admittedly quite a bit behind on WT news, but the JWs were under ban in Indonesia for decades. Is that no longer the case?

I remember hearing him speak. That's definitely him. He spoke without notes, and he had a kind of rambling way of speaking, though it was interesting and easy to listen to.
There is a little ambiguity on the statements about his <maybe> offer of Rhodes scholarship and to Oxford. It sounds to me like he applied for the scholarship and later withdrew his application. Maybe just that process meant that he was automatically accepted to Oxford (with or without the scholarship), but it isn't really clear to me.

Russell taught the 7000 year creative day belief, maybe it made sense in the 1800's. Most likely he didn't invent it himself, but picked it up from the literature of the time period.
