I overheard parts of the broadcast as the wife was listening to it. It sounded like a third grader explaining to his mom what he heard in history class.

May JW Broaadcast - so bad, "it's not even wrong"
by FFGhost indon't know how many of y'all still watch it.. this month's topic is "the king of the north" - cook goes into monotonous detail over the jw interpretation about rome, germany, ussr, russia, etc.. leaving aside for other commentators the emotionally manipulative videos of jws in russian holding cells, the tearjerker interviews, the god-awful stiffness of cook (i suspect he has never genuinely smiled, much less laughed, in his 60+ years), just thought i'd comment on one topic.. the centerpiece of the program is a "morning worship" monologue from splane.
let's again just leave to the side the dude's pomposity, smugness, and inflated sense of his own genius, and think about this part of his monologue.. he was tracing the history of the "king of the north" and talked about how "britain" (not england, not the united kingdom, not great britain, but "britain" - no idea why they have that fixation - anyway...) became the kotn in the 19th century.. paraphrasing his comments: "britain would not have become kotn if france had its way.
france was much wealthier and more powerful, but at the battle of waterloo, britain defeated france.

I'm pretty sure the book 'Creation' referred to was a Rutherford book from the '30s, not 1914 as cited. Russell had a book called 'The New Creation', but the one with the offensive picture was a Rutherford-era book.

An American Religion?
by no-zombie ini have a question.. have every member of the governing body (past and present) been american citizens?.
while i understand that some may have been born outside of the us, ultimately to serve in the world hq long term, i imagine that they all had to become 'americans'?.
no zombie.

a Good question.
I am going to guess no, because the JWs in the past have been hesitant to commit to the Oath of Allegiance. I honestly don't know where they are now on it, maybe it is a conscience matter nowadays, but in the past it was not allowed for JWs.

Headship and WT's Changed Understanding
by Bobcat ini don't think anyone has mentioned that the february 2021 study wt (p. 15, 16; par.
8) changed wt's long standing view on headship within the congregation.
wt used to view all baptized males as being the head of all baptized sisters.. this view led to such absurdities as a sister having to wear a head covering on a bible study because her baptized 10 year old son was sitting in on the study with her.

It may take years, but I believe that eventually the WT will allow women in teaching roles. Their position is so antiquated and ridiculous as to be untenable in the long run.

What affect did the 1918 flu have on the Bible Student Movement?
by dropoffyourkeylee inmaybe someone has already brought this up, but a news article i ran across:.
https://www.cnn.com/2020/12/03/health/churches-covid-1918-lesson-wellness/index.html.
brings a question to my mind.

https://www.cnn.com/2020/12/03/health/churches-covid-1918-lesson-wellness/index.html
brings a question to my mind. What role did the 1918 flu, which had similar isolation as COVID but without the benefit of zoom meetings, have in the decimation of the Bible Student movement in the early Rutherford years? There was a lot going on anyway, with the death of Russell, WW1, Rutherford in jail for a year, etc, but the isolation of the members must have had a role in distancing the people. The breaking or loosening of personal bonds and friendships makes it easier to leave, whether a church, a job, or other association.
Just a thought

Admittedly, it seems Cook is definitely not front and center like some of the others. I don't watch the videos on the broadcast, so I may be wrong, but I am not aware of him having much of a presence on jw.org

Watchtower caught lying about the real reason Beth Sarim was built
by Diogenesister inanother incredible catch from a you tuber, this time jane doh, who caught watchtower fooling us again, this time over the reasons beth sarim was really built.. of course we knew rutherford lived in beth sarim during the winter (ostensibly because of his poorly chest🙄).
however even we didn't guess he blatantly got the poor jws, or bible students as they were, to cough up from the proceeds of their book sales enough to buy him a "cali-fornication" mansion (for he & the girlfriend😜) with absolutely no pretence (at the time) it was for the "ancient worthies".that came later.... how did she know?
because at the time it was built, in the 1920s, watchtower had no belief that anyone was to live on a "paradise earth" - they had not even formulated the concept of a paradise earth yet for the ancient worthies to live on and believed all jws were to live in heaven.

I'm with vienne on this one. The maker of the video is simply wrong. Her mistake is reading the 75 Yearbook and the Proclaimers books and assuming they are correct. -

Are we sure the video and photos came after the appointment of Cook?
