To All Those Keen To Tell Us About Their Beliefs
by Simon inwe seem to have had an influx of religiots - the people who want to tell us all about how we / the wts / whoever are wrong, wrong, wrong about everything and how right they are.
they obviously have special insight, or voices (probably voices, right?
) telling them the real truth.. as proof, there is inevitably a wall of random scripture references and quotes.. sorry, but we're not here for that.

Curtailing zoom
by road to nowhere inco visit, so right from the horse's mouth ( or somewhere).
too many are staying on zoom, missing face to face encouragement.
look for the elders to implement changes.. also people at the door are so receptive and glad to see us.

In these parts (midwest US) the recent SAD day was not on zoom. But a generic version of the program was available on KH conference, just the one with local speakers was not on zoom.

I always found this somewhat arrogant - to believe that you and your generation are the one that will see "the end", that your generation specifically will not have to see death
A good comment. I have observed that end-time predictions often share a common theme. The person teaching the endtime is of the older generation (age 50-60). The believers/victims are younger (ages 15-50). The end is taught to come about 40 years hence; that is within the lifetime of the believing group. There is a 'call to action' that is believable to the victims, and the teacher is just old enough to think he might live to the end. William Miller, Charles Russell, and Fred Franz all fit this pattern. The problem is that it is difficult to prove wrong other than to wait 40 years, but the perpetrator is usually dead by then and the believers/victims are left scrambling for explanations.

Revelation book
by Gorb indo you remember the jw.org book of revelation and how many times we had to study it?
in retrospect, all those hours turned out to be for nothing, the explanation of the prophecies is now completely outdated..

It seemed to be popular among the post-Russell period to read obscure Bible passages and then project it onto themselves. Type, Antitype, etc. It was all made up, seeing themselves in Scripture. I used to have some of P.S.L. Johnson's books, in which he went on for pages and pages in the same drivel that Rutherford was doing, except that in his version he was the good guy and Rutherford was the bad guy.

I have always suspected that the only reason it was studied multiple times was that they had printed up way too many of them and had a huge inventory they had to get rid of. They knew most of the JWs would get a new one for the study, and there was no market for them in the field (they were too embarrassing to offer to the public, and this was before the donation arrangement in the US).

New World Translation is not much different other translations
by Abraham1 inkey scripture 2 timothy 3:16 should have been translated as “every scripture inspired of god is also profitable for teaching” like many other serious translations (such as american standard version ; douay-rheims bible etc) as it is what the greek text says.. this is in harmony with the contents of bible and also with the writer paul himself who knew after his departure ‘even from his own number men will arise and distort the truth.’ (acts 20:29-30) for example, verses such as romans 7:19 is such distortion.
such verses cannot originate from real paul who was “holy, righteous and blameless.” (1 thessalonians 2:10) hence paul had the freeness of speech to tell others to be “blameless” like him (1 thessalonians 5:19-23; ephesians 5:24) there are many things in the scriptures which are not inspired such as words of satan, words of job’s wife and his false friends, words of judas, lot’s daughters …etc.
apostle peter never disowned jesus because if he had done so, his contemporaries would have interrupted him when he rebuked jews, saying: “you disowned the holy and righteous one and asked that a murderer be released to you.“ (acts 3:14) his listeners would have asked him “what right do you have to reprove us for ‘disowning jesus” when you yourself have done it first?” all such verses or accounts were later adoptions.

I stand corrected DJW, thanks. The Diaglott did not use the Westcott and Hort. My copy of the Diaglott dates to 1942 as published by the WT. The title page says it 'according to the Recension of Dr. J.J. Griesbach', and states it used the Vatican Manuscript 1209.

Concerning the choice of the Wescott Hort text, (I am not defending it), the history of the WT is that the early Bible Students in the Russell days used the Wilson Diaglott, which at the time was one of the only interlinears available for the NT. Wilson used the Wescott Hort text. Fred Franz, a product of the thinking of the 1800's, used the same text and basically made the NWT Interlinear a copy of the Diaglott with changes to suit himself. This work was done in the '40s, and the NWT NT came out in about 1950. The American Bible Society, the Nestle/Aland text and later improvements all came into use later. -

I thought the new branch had been built and the branch had already moved out of Rome to the new facility in Bologna. I was in northern Italy near Rimini about 5 years ago and spoke with a brother who had worked on the new branch (his English was passable). I must be wrong, so please update.

GDPR came along in 2016 and became enforceable in 2018. So it has been a while now, but the OP's '23 years' must be a typo.
