  Separate Identity, vol 3

  some of you have read the first two volumes of schulz and de vienne's separate identity series recounting the watch tower's early years.

  uncle b is working steadily on volume three, the last in the series despite declining health.

  a few rough draft paragraphs of chapter three are up on his blog.

  I looked through mom's papers and called Uncle B. They never found more than what you can read in Separate Identity, volume one, pages 5-7. The Russells moved to Philadelphia about 1857. C. T. would have been about five years old. They lived at "1538 Lombard Street, in the densely populated Society Hill section." This seems to have been an area of lower middle class merchants and workers.

  Joseph was a green grocer. His brother had interests in Philadelphia at the same time, but we do not know if they intertwined. "A daughter, Lucinda H. Russell, was born sometime in 1857. She died July 21, 1858, of scrofula, a tubercular infection of the lymph nodes in the neck. There was an unaccountably high incidence of scrofula in Philadelphia – about three times the national average. Contaminated milk, unsanitary environment, or parent-to-child transmission are all probable causes of the disease. Pasteur’s microbe experiments were about four years away, and physicians blamed scrofula on heredity. If the Russells asked the reason for Lucinda’s death, they would have been told that."

  The Russells were involved in a Presbyterian church controversy, opting to attend a breakaway congregation: "While in Philadelphia the Russells were caught in a controversy among Presbyterians. On June 24, 1860, they joined the First Independent Church, formed around the choice of a pastor not accepted by the parent congregation. It was a Presbyterian body. Ann profoundly affected Charles Russell’s thinking. He recalled her as “a noble Christian woman whose instructions and example are still fresh to his memory and will never be forgotten”

  C. T. Russell was about eight years old when they moved back to Allegheny, spending three years or slightly less of his life in Philadelphia. It is unlikely we would find more information. If you do, please share it.

  I have access to some scattered issues of A. P. Adams' Spirit of the Word. Anyone? [Sorry, I do not have permission to make copies.]

  The Bulletin for 1920, 1930 and 1933. I need all issues. Anyone?

  What was covered up in your congregation??

  family move to remote pacific island to serve were the need is great get a mention in the year book.. however one of the (married) boys in the large family has sex with his sister while his wife is in hospital giving birth to their child.

  .

  all hushed up not even a word said and hes now an elder d.fing people for lesser crimes.. young couple dating leave the jws and move in togather doing drugs partying ect.. his family grandfather,uncles, dad ect are all elders.. after a few years they decide to come back to the jws and are married in the k.h a few months latter.. 1 elder questions them getting married in the k.h and is voted down by his family.. to many drunks and c.s.a to mention.. karter..

  What has the Spiritual Paradise of the WTS been over time

  the first mention i find in the wts publications is 1958. although the wts says the index goes from 1930 to 1985, nothing appears before 1958 a search only found by using the phrase "spiritual paradise" not in the index.

  in 2015 there was a clarification of the phrase "of course, we should not conclude that the terms “spiritual paradise” and “spiritual temple” are the same.

  the spiritual temple is god’s arrangement for true worship.".

  My outsider's view is that Witness congregations are in constant turmoil. That's not a paradise.

  attended the friday sesson of the 2024 summer convention.. july 5, 2024 summer convention crowd photo; they invited quite a lot of empty chairs.. .

  the facility usually has 5500-6500. they spun it saying that fewer congregations were assigned.

  there were 6 of the smaller, more distant sections blocked off with tarps to lessen cleaning, which i understand.
