The Governing Body are doubling down on dogma!
by DATA-DOG inin case you were wondering if the governing body we're going to become kinder and gentler, the answer is a big "no!!!
in the current study edition of the wt magazine, the sheeple are reminded of some very important key points.
1) god has an organization ( corporation ) that you must respect.. 2) only the gb/faithful slave can dispense spiritual food and only the gb/faithful slave can interpret the bible.. 3) individual dubs absolutely cannot learn "truth" on their own.. 4) god requires "unity of doctrine.

I'm not looking for an easy to read version nic...and I do use bible hub AND bible gateway Fernando. They have a great app I use at the meetings :-)
I am just curious which translation people prefer. Just a curiosity thing really.

I am assuming NWT is not very popular?
I am using NET and NRSV mostly but others as well.
I am enjoying reading the scriptures in a way that flows. Nobody inserting a grand name where it wasn't before or clunky words like "exercise Faith" when the original Greek says "believe".
Just curious which translation is getting the love these days.

Some may feel that they can interpret the Bible on their own. However, Jesus has appointed the ‘faithful slave’ to be the only channel for dispensing spiritual food
I can't find that in my copy.

Jesus ransom or the sanctification of God's name the most important?
by Yesu Kristo Bwana Wangu insome time ago, during the mid-week meeting, the sanctification of god’s name was being discussed (chapter 4 in ‘god’s kingdom rules’).
in paragraph nine we read that in the early period the jw’s viewed jesus ransom sacrifice as the most important teaching of the bible.
then they said they gave overbalanced importance to jesus, and nowadays, they say the sanctification of god’s name is the most important thing in the bible.. .

I was at that meeting and those very paragraphs bothered the hell out of me.
I even started a thread about it at the time...

The publications and talks are stressing reading the bible more of late which is interesting. The more I read the bible, the more I find that doesn't jibe with WT doctrine.

If the WT is a "money making machine"...who gets the money?
by NikL ini've seen claims over the years that wt is in the real estate, book publishing business and is a for profit enterprise at it's core.. can those of you that believe this to be the case tell me who benefits from all this wealth?.
the governing body lives in relatively humble conditions no?.
i've been curious about this for a while.

Well scratchme1010...
I get the impression that it seems far fetch to you, that some people in the GB or their higher ups may be wealthy.
No not far fetched. Just that it's done in a way I have never seen before if they are.
What are your thoughts?
Don't really have any beyond the ones previously posted. Consider me on a voyage of discovery. I am accumulating information for my own edification.
what would be an alternative reason?
Like I said, I really don't know where I stand on this but, if they truly believe that the machine is from god and they worship that machine, then it stands to reason that they would give all and do all to support the machine.
@John Free
I want to go into the translation biz! Nice place!

What is the vow of poverty
by Jafox ini was told by someone that in 2007 two members of the branch committee in greece were removed because they breached the vow of poverty.
the matter was over a small amount, in the range of a few hundred euro.
is there a copy of this vow available and how would this be applied here?

Where is it proven that the GB live in "humble" conditions?
Good point Sparrow. I have heard it from various interviews I've heard from ex-JW ex-Bethelites. Of course I've never even been in New York much less in a GB members apt LOL
jean-luc picard
no car repairs, no health bills, no need to do the ironning, cooking, cleaning etc etc. travel 1st class anywhere in the world. never ever any money worries. never worry about replacing the washing machine,tv,fridge etc etc. never have to do the gardenning yourself. never need to clean your own room. never ever have the hum drum worries that normal folk have. live in a beautiful park.......
I get that too. But it certainly isn't typical of people at the top of a major corporation to choose such a "humble"
way of life.At this point I don't believe they are doing it for the money. I really think they are misguided as much as the rank and file member.
Of course a little more research into Orphan Crows research may change that opinion. Hey I am open to new ideas :-)
