Now that the WT can "update" their library on CD at will we will see more of this undoubtedly.

The re-writing of digital history....JW.org style. Interesting clip.
by stuckinarut2 inwe all know that one of the major advantages the society now has with everything being on its official website, is the ability to quickly change content when they desire.. so older articles that show them to have made mistakes, are simply re-written or edited...or even just deleted!
simple!
"nothing to see here...carry on".

the Book of Enoch and the Nephilim
by schnell ini've heard all my cognizant life that angels from heaven looked upon the daughters of men, took wives, and their wives bore giants called nephilim.. i've heard all my adult life about the book of enoch and why it's apocryphal and to be avoided.. so tonight i was curious enough to download an e-book and have a look, since dothemath had the thread about rarely used scriptures and the book of jude directly quotes from the book of enoch.. if jude quotes from enoch, shouldn't both or neither of them be canonical?
if you consider jude canonical, then enoch should be too.. hey, how many fallen angels were there again?
two thirds of heaven, right?

Not the "Faithful & Discreet Slave" after all!
by Nicholaus Kopernicus in"1 god, who long ago spoke on many occasions and in many ways to our forefathers by means of the prophets, 2 has at the end of these days spoken to us by means of a son, whom he appointed heir of all things..." hebrews 1:1,2. the wtbts/gbojw avoid reference to this scripture.
could be due to it undermining their claim to fds status?
maybe a good reasoning point with jw's?

Don't forget that JWs believe that those scriptures weren't for us "the rank and file". They are directed to the anointed.

Weird.
I was just looking at the same information at the same time you were posting this.
GMTA apparently. I share your reasoning that it must be an important book if Jude quoted from it though I SUPPOSE I must admit there is a SLIGHT chancce as breakfast pointed out the JWs and Fundies believe.that...
Just because it LOOKS like Jude is citing the book of Enoch, doesn't mean it is. There could be another source that both Jude and the Book of Enoch are both citing separately.
What I find interesting is that the JW position has always been the nephilim were angelic/human hybrids. The bible doesn't specifically say so...though Enoch does. So in this case it appears that there must be some "accuracy" to the book.

For those that read the bible, does the true message of scripture still come through in NWT?
by NikL inmy active and in jw wife is up for reading bible together.
thing is she wants to use nwt.. i have problems with that translation as you my imagine.. just wondering if you thought the true message of the bible will shine through the deliberate tampering of the nwt?.
i know many people here don't like or want to read the bible and think it's rubbish anyway, so if that's you, you can save your comments :-).

I am asking those that still read and study the scriptures.

Rank & File Reaction to Leah Remini Series
by freemindfade inwife and i have watched the whole series and just finished episode 7 last night.
personally, i am seeing a great deal more subtle and day to day similarities to watchtower than the obvious ones i already knew existed, ie shunning.
very eye opening and heartbreaking, even more so than going clear in my mind.

If they made a series of JW's & JW's watched & saw someone they knew telling the story they still would not see it. Only if their little toes were stepped on. It would be nice for a series to happen about the witnesses not to crumble them but for folks to make a choice to stay but not out of force. The Catholics were exposed and folks are still attending.
So very true! Especially the part about the Catholics.

A Song of Rejoicing" song number 208 from Sing Praises to Jehovah 1984 editionWow. I don't recall they had so many in the old book!
just an old talk from days gone by
I guess that explains it. I was thinking it was a more recent talk.

Nope.
There are only around 140 to 150 songs. I can't remember the exact number off hand.

Something wrong here.
Talks are not an hour long and there is no song 208

My wife (who is a very in witness) and I have enjoyed the whole series as well.
She doesn't see the similarities at all as far as I can tell and I don't push her on the issue.
I am realizing more and more that the cult is too much for me. I can't help her wake up. It's all up to her. Hopefully things like this TV series will help down the road.
