This cult really sucks!!!!
You get an amen here!
i know there have been many many posts on here over the years on the deity of jesus.. i am submitting this one because i am feeling a little confused.. the thing is, i am not the sharpest knife in the drawer and i know this.
so when i am going through my bible reading (to all you haters, yes i still do it) i see so many scriptures that just fly in the face of everything the jws teach about jesus.. i begin to wonder if indeed i am diseased in the mind ,as they will try to paint me, because it seems so plain to me.. i never even gave it a though growing up as to if jesus and god were equal.
i just didn't.. now when i read scriptures like philippians 9.... 9 for this very reason, god exalted him to a superior position+ and kindly gave him the name that is above every other name,+ 10 so that in the name of jesus every knee should bend—of those in heaven and those on earth and those under the ground+— 11 and every tongue should openly acknowledge that jesus christ is lord+ to the glory of god the father.. .
I know there have been many MANY posts on here over the years on the deity of Jesus.
I am submitting this one because I am feeling a little confused.
The thing is, I am not the sharpest knife in the drawer and I know this. So when I am going through my bible reading (To all you haters, yes I still do it) I see so many scriptures that just fly in the face of everything the JWs teach about Jesus.
I begin to wonder if indeed I am diseased in the mind ,as they will try to paint me, because it seems so plain to me.
I never even gave it a though growing up as to if Jesus and GOD were equal. I just didn't.
Now when I read scriptures like Philippians 9...
9 For this very reason, God exalted him to a superior position+ and kindly gave him the name that is above every other name,+ 10 so that in the name of Jesus every knee should bend—of those in heaven and those on earth and those under the ground+— 11 and every tongue should openly acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord+ to the glory of God the Father.
The foot note after "ground " takes us to John 5:22-23
The footnote after the word "name" in Philippians 9:9 links to a couple of scriptures...
- Ephesians 1:20, 21
20 which he exercised toward Christ when he raised him up from the dead and seated him at his right hand+ in the heavenly places, 21 far above every government and authority and power and lordship and every name that is named,+ not only in this system of things* but also in that to come.
Every other name that is named? As in Jehovah? This all from the JW.ORG Bible on their website.
Can they REALLY read this and not see what I am seeing?
I have not been a believer in JW theology for years and it's only recently I've decided to get reacquainted with the bible and it's message. Maybe someone who has a better understanding of JW theology can explain how they can NOT see this. Or maybe show me where I am mistaken.
If I was just hanging around bullshitting with one of my JW acquaintances and casually brought this up, what would they say?

Missed this until now.
Wow!
so had to check it out to see what it's all about.. what i got was more cloudiness.
as in luke 2:9.... suddenly jehovah’s angel stood before them, and jehovah’s glory gleamed around them, and they became very fearful.

I would say that 99% of the JWs I know are not even aware of the issue of the NT not containing the divine name. They just don't get it.
You got that right. My wife is completely unaware that there is a problem even though I've pointed it out to her.
A God who is capable to create humans, is very well capable to protect His name. But He did not. Moreover, the name of His Son became the most important name mentioned in the NT.
A similar thought went through my head during today's talk at our hall when they read 2 Peter 3:18...
No, but go on growing in the undeserved kindness and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.

As in Luke 2:9...
Suddenly Jehovah’s angel stood before them, and Jehovah’s glory gleamed around them, and they became very fearful
The notes point out...
Jehovah’s angel: This expression occurs many times in the Hebrew Scriptures, starting at Ge 16:7. When it occurs in early copies of the Septuagint, the Greek word agʹge·los (angel; messenger) is followed by the divine name written in Hebrew characters. That is how the expression is handled at Zec 3:5, 6 in a copy of the Septuagint found in a cave in Nahal Hever, Israel, in the Judean desert. This fragment is dated between 50 B.C.E. and 50 C.E. It is noteworthy that when later copies of the Greek Septuagint replaced the divine name with Kyʹri·os in this and many other verses, the definite article was not included where it would be expected according to standard grammatical usage. This may be another indication that Kyʹri·os replaces the divine name here and in similar contexts. A number of Bible translations retain the divine name when rendering the expression “Jehovah’s angel” in this verse.—See App. C.
So I had to see for myself all the "many translations that render it "Jehovah's Angel".
Know how many I found?
Zilch!
Take Bible hub for example...

That's 25 translations. How many are there in English?
Maybe the WTs definition of "many" is different than mine?
Note the apendix c in the notes.
One paragraph from that is interesting...
The basic question that needs to be answered is this: Since the Tetragrammaton appeared in the original Hebrew text that was being quoted by the first-century Bible writers, did those writers deliberately substitute the word Kyʹri·os or The·osʹ for the Tetragrammaton each time they quoted from the “Old Testament”? Throughout the centuries, numerous Bible translators have concluded that such a substitution would not have taken place. Therefore, such translators have felt compelled to restore the divine name in their translations of the “New Testament.” The translators of the Christian Greek Scriptures of the New World Translation agree with that viewpoint
Which "bible translators" are those? I see no evidence of it.
There is also a footnote which reads...
A number of scholars, however, strongly disagree with this viewpoint. One of these is Jason BeDuhn, who authored the book Truth in Translation: Accuracy and Bias in English Translations of the New Testament. Yet, even BeDuhn acknowledges: “It may be that some day a Greek manuscript of some portion of the New Testament will be found, let’s say a particularly early one, that has the Hebrew letters YHWH in some of the verses [of the “New Testament.”] When that happens, when evidence is at hand, biblical researchers will have to give due consideration to the views held by the NW [New World Translation] editors.”
The point being that it hasn't happened.
Lets use that argument about people that might believe the moon is made of cheese.
If someone goes to the moon and finds it is indeed made of cheese than the scientists will have to acknowledge the viewpoint of those that said it was made of cheese.
Lets say the tetragramaton was in use during the first century.
Did they say "god" or "lord" when they read it?
I put forward that they did. That's why the translators replaced it with kyrios.
you know, there are some studies that are painful to sit through because of the blatant lies or bull shite spewing from the platform.
then there are those that seem to have no reason for even taking place.. such was the case for last nights congregation bible study.. all it did was talk about how many books and magazines have been published over the years and "aren't we wonderful that we print so much stuff"?
this is a study into important biblical things?
spot on outlaw...
Considering 95% of all WBT$ Literature ends up in storage, in JW homes..
If there's an Award for WBT$ Literature Hoarding..
JW`s do Deserve an Award..

One of the cool/interesting things about going to meetings is now I can spot all the bullsh*t as it get dispensed. It's kinda like watching a show.
It gets harder to keep my mouth shut at some of the nonsense though. Even though I know it will accomplish nothing

scratchme1010
And you still come here promoting them, seriously?
What the hell is that supposed to mean scratch?
I've stated my reasons for attending the meetings with my still in wife. I realize you don't approve but then again I wasn't asking for it. There are plenty here who still feel they need to attend the KH for whatever reason and it's nice to be able to vent.
I fail to see how that is "promoting them".
Perhaps you would explain?

Seriously?
This is a study into important biblical things? Give me a break.
Of course the pathetic dubs in the hall are chirping about holding records as the most widely distributed mags and most translated books like they personally are receiving an award or something.
Completely pointless!
