Jw meeting locator
by Done ini was born in and a jw for about 40 years, most of it in the same state.
im getting ready to move about an hour away and typed in my possible new zip code to the meeting locator to see who of my past contacts i will possibly run into.. when the locator gives you the list of nearest congos, is congo "a" the one that your address would be "assigned" to?
the congo that works your territory?

Thanks for the info. A and B meet at the same hall, but not in alphabetical order in the listing. My thought was it would be congo c or d covering the area im moving too. I know people in B and C. Guess Ill wait and see if it happens. I work a lot and noone catches me at home now, but they all know me here and probably skip my house.

Protect Your Family??
by Tech49 inhere is an article in the current study copy of the wt.
tell me your thoughts and i will tell you mine.!
this is a topic that i am very sensitive about, as i could never see not protecting my family, even if that meant using whatever means at hand to do so!

Yea. I said for years she was wanting out of the marriage and trying to find a way that made her the innocent victim. No one believed me. But i have to give the narcissistic violent monster credit where it's due, she woke me up to the real org. I blinked wrong, sneezed wrong, had a question and she was straight to the elders.
After my exit and my filing for divorce one of the reasonable elders stopped by and apologized for the years of believing her

I know that the congo i left(where i live now), if you put up a visible no trespassing sign they absolutely would not come on the property. Im going to be renting in a rural area short term until I find my next home to purchase. There will be very visible no trespassing signs at both of the next homes.

Never saw the 'keep it unloaded and disassembled' comment before. Must be some of that brighter light
Been over it again and again when I was in. Now ex wife repeatedly went to the elders about the guns I own.
Every time, usually a different elder takes me in the back, 'why do you own guns, we know you don't hunt?'
Recreational target practice at a range was my scripted answer.
'well, why do you have a concealed carry permit then?'
Because I know the laws, and have taken safety courses. I can legally carry the gun in my truck to and from the range without a concealed carry permit. But what would happen if I have to go to the bathroom on the way home, or stop for lunch? Then I'm not going directly to or from the range to home, and it would put me in violation of the law.
One day we were out doing errands in my vehicle and she caught site of a safe under my drivers seat. What's in that she asked. My 45.
Yup next meeting in the back room, why do you carry a gun everywhere you go?
Oh I went to the range yesterday and got called into work before I got home. Forgot to take it back in the house. Good thing I have a concealed carry permit and a locking safe in my truck.
Only way I'd keep an unloaded disassembled gun around is if was broken.

What have been some of the funniest local needs talks that you have heard?
by DaPriest ini remember once in berlin south germany there was a local needs part for the men only, and how they should use the toilet.
in all seriousness for ten minutes a retarded nigerian was going on about how men need to sit down when using the toilet.
no mention of anything else.. it transpired that some little kraut boy from an "interested" family would aim for the side of the toilet and leave a great big puddle for others to clean up.

A few I remember:
Brothers shouldn't wear long underwear to keep warm during winter field service. Wasn't fair to the sisters.
Noone should own a gun for any reason. I had about 14, multiple brothers hunted .
Annual local needs - if you don't have a 4 door car you're not spiritually minded. One young pioneer couple had a 2 door car. I only had a work truck.
I'm sure I'll remember more

Oh The Irony
by FedUpJW inso i sat and suffered through the clam tonight.. everything was pretty much as dull, repetitious, and simple-minded as i have come to expect, but i was really struck by the mind-numbing idiotic comments made during the part about shunning family.. then came the book study (no real bible use) loaded with self-congratulatory b.s about how wt never has, and never will beg, solicit, or ask for money.
i could feel myself beginning to channel the old tasmanian devil cartoon character as i listened to that garbage while remembering the jdubya tv shows about how more money was going out than coming in and give more.
but finally came the most ironic (to me) part of the entire meeting and i could not help bursting out in a loud belly laugh that got me many dirty looks and heavy frowns.

Been out about 2.5 years... But this isn't the 1st time a letter like this was read. It seems like it was almost annually for years. First one I remember was when then started the co cars and or health insurance. Can't remember which came first

Ditto. Can't believe how few "friends" have checked in on me since I left.
Been out over 2 years. No wrong doing, no df, no drama. One meeting I was there, the next not.
2 elders stopped by about a month later to check on me. One elder one other time. Then the usual week or so before the memorial I get an invite.
Do have to compliment the one elder. Warm summer day, I was mowing the lawn. He stopped with the Saturday service car load, but parked the car so they were out of earshot. He then apologized for the mishandling of all my complaints about my now ex wife over the years. (One big one we discussed was the multiple episodes of violence she displayed. I called the police one time, they pressed charges and she was guilty in court. Elders told me I shouldn't of called police because it brings a bad name to Jah. The next time she got violent I called elders, not police. While she was still under restrictions and had a criminal record for domestic violence, they decided this time was a one time thing and really I made her behave like that). Yup, I'm done

"The purpose of reporting field service time is for encouragement"
by HereIgo ini was told this when i was an aspiring jw, aka unbaptized publisher.
the above explanation didn't make sense to me then and it never did make sense throughout my jw career.
over time, it appeared to me the real purpose of field service time reporting was to gauge one's spirituality and for the ceo *cough* co to make sure the elders were on top of things during his visit..

My ex used to aux pioneer just for the recognition. After 3-4 times of aux pioneering during the special low hours months and not making the hours commitment, I asked the service committee why they approved her app again when she hadn't made her time the last 3-4 times. They told me she said she would make it this time- nope didn't happen

Next week's "Bible" Study at the K.H.
by The Fall Guy inone or two notable points from chapter 18 of "god's kingdom rules.".
“it will never beg nor petition men for support”.
7 brother russell and his associates refused to imitate the money-raising schemes so common in the churches of christendom.

I remember the 'how much can you donate' slip.
I calculated the time I spent doing KH activities, studying, FS, etc - multiplied by my overtime rate at work and wrote down the value of my time
