I'm not surprised by it but I loathe the WT just a bit more for gloating about the travesty that they get away with.

by neat blue dog inunder "breaking news" on jwdotorg, there is a link to a court case in canada that was just resolved on may 31st.. https://scc-csc.lexum.com/scc-csc/scc-csc/en/item/17101/index.do.

Is the 90% number thrown about speaking to all child abuse, sex abuse or the grooming gangs who take horrible advantage of vulnerable at risk girls?

Not posted for a year because mum died did not want blood.
by Witness 007 ini posted here weekly until a year ago when my mum died of a mild form of lukemia which is easy to treat with 2 blood tranfusions a month.
you can live to 100 with treatment, but no my mum chose to die a faithful witness after 2 years of chemo and hell for her family and doctors.
her chemo doctor cried when she only had weeks left to live knowing that she could be saved with one bag of blood!

I'm so sad to hear of your needless loss. I hope you can work through all the feelings and come to a peace about what you (none of us can) can't change regarding the convictions that others hold.

Then they can build a compound for all the faithful to join like a convent. Give us everything, all your energy, your children, your options and you have a home until Armageddon or death, whichever comes first.

Pseudonyms
by no-zombie inone of this things that constantly reminds me of the extent and the reach the organization has into our lives, is the fact we all need pseudonyms to have a conversation or to make a comment in this even here in this place.
even when people have left the society (by however it has occurred), its rare to see somebody change their online presence to their personal name.. now i'm not expecting people to do that of course, fore we are all free to do what we like (which is the real beauty of this forum) but the fact that it doesn't occur that often, shows how much we've all been effected by being told over and over again, "not to be critical of god's organization".
of course there could be an number so side issues at play here; with some people not wanting to burn their bridges in an attempt to keep what reputation they have left intact and sadly a small minority others, do enjoy the anonymity to just talk trash ... but if a person can not feel free to stand up and respectfully make a critical comment or ask a thorny question without fear of repercussion from their religion, then doesn't it show that there is no real freedom in that faith.

I’m no longer worried about JWs in my life. I’m more worried about people on this and other sites.
Opinions can lead to shunning, expulsion and abuse from online nutters, too-not just our families.

Thanks for the info Terry! I was able to watch the show two nights ago. It was well done. I still wish someone could really show how fully screwed up it is, but that would need a series with Simpsons longevity.

15 years ago I was required to get child safeguard training to volunteer at the local church in any capacity as well as fingerprints and police check. That wasn’t groundbreaking even 15 + years ago.

I am horrified by the crimes perpetrated against young women in the UK. Their age prevents me from characterizing the crimes as pedophilia, but harming vulnerable people is not ever right. Crime is crime. Sexual abuse is among the worst of crimes.
I think there is a part of this often glossed over. These young women came from care homes, broken families, the street. They often had a "reputation" or history of trouble. They were truly the most vulnerable and their plight was ignored by all those in the established justice system for the same reason they were exploited and were able to be . They had no value in the community and they had no one sticking up for them.
- A third of people believe women who flirt are partially responsible for being raped (Amnesty, 2005)
So, where do fact, fear, sexism, bias and tribalism(by any tribe) intersect? Right here, apparently.

I appreciate Barbara and all the people finally fighting to protect the vulnerable whether victims of religious toleration of abuse or gangs or any authority figures who abuse others. Enough is enough!

I am wondering what is keeping the silence regarding all the small children and young women who have been abused by men of every race in the last decades? Churches, religions like the WT, teachers/school districts, cops, politicians have been covering up and silencing those who speak up and those who are bullied into silence.
The me too movement reminds us that those with even the smallest degree of authority of seniority or physical strength can and will use it to the disadvantage of others when they have a chance. The church finally taking steps. . .what are their race and religion? How did they exercise their faith or perverted culture in their abuse? What religions are they defying while they abuse the vulnerable? There has long been a subculture existing in every large city filled with men and women who take advantage of vulnerable teenagers. Grooming gangs in the UK are the same kind of perverts that exist in every city and culture-,those who have access to vulnerable young girls. And if you think they represent any religion and that all Muslims are similarly evil, then perhaps all us ex JWs should turn ourselves in for our complicity. The prosecutors are going after historic crimes these days.
