Exactly. What is this? Smoking gun that other numbers are massaged? I personally think so. There has been growth in my area in the 80s and 90s, but now the numbers, that a person can see when visiting various halls or talking to members, are comparable to the 1970s. We've lost a lot, which is great. But you would never know it from WT numbers.

Thank you all very much. I can't believe I thought they told the marked one. oh wait. I remember as a kid a friend telling me that they are about to mark her Mom. That was quite a while ago, and I'm sure WT changed for legal slimy reasons. So. Now I know I was definitely marked a while back. I could not convince my PIMI hubby because I DID ask an elder about it and he lied, lied, lied. I WAS quite bold! ;) I even believed him a little at the time, even though I was PIMO for a few months by then. The next Sat my hubby and I went out in service and I told him most everyone, including ALL the elders, were very cold. Hubby is clueless this way, very math like mind if that makes sense. Anyway, now I totally believe my PIMI friend and will give her as much support as possible. I really wish I could give more details, it is just SO unique!!! I have never read about the situation surrounding the marking here or anywhere else.

I still look for truth, not the truth, and not in an organization.

It takes a while to work out the mind conditioning that there is an organization with "the truth". It is a control mechanism.

It is o.k., and you will be o.k.

Remember that the quote from the Bible is "who shall we go to?" NOT "where shall we go".

Fink, All too familiar with that stuff. My parents used that excuse to be lazy and not let us hang our with anyone. Well, except for people that lived far away and could not get together with us often. This talk was quite specific though, so much so that I cannot even mention the topic. Please except my apology.

More confused, thanks for the affirmation. This is leading to some major pre-shunning for my friend, and I have mixed emotions as it is hard for her. But, then it may help open her eyes.

Another congregation bites the dust

went to the meeting last night with my believing wife.

the co was visiting and delivered a really cult-ish talk on loyalty but that's another story.. they made the announcement that starting january 1st they were going to have only 3 congregations in this town instead of 4.. they are dissolving one and growing the territories of the remaining 3. the reason given is that many of the elders are getting up there in age and can't do what they used to do.

basically not enough elders and ministerial servants...or even men reaching out for that matter.

so--really all thats happened is 3 sets of meetings each week instead of 4. same number of bums on seats each week.

O.K. So here's my two cents. I was in a congregation that had about 30 irregular publishers a few years ago. The CO came around and said we were in a bit of a crisis. OH NO!!! ha ha.

Well, next CO visit he said we were doing great! Ummm. What? We had about 5 more that had become irregular. In talking it up with others, they said that it was that the irregular became officially inactive. Nice. They care, don't they? But, this is how I want them to treat me instead of calling like they do, just ignore me! I digress.

THEN, we merged with another congregation. Big numbers at first, but now there are another 30-40 irregulars. It is easier to fade in a bigger congregation, and moving congregations. This is the only merger I know of personally. It helped the already faded, and helped more to fade!

They don't know their head from their butt. I think they saw people leaving after Breaux's talk (exjw reddit growing for example) and decided to play a repeat to try stem the flood, plus the seven dwarfs are lazy, old, too busy with vacations, and tired.

As for this peon, it would be their reason to get me out. Hence the aliases we see here a vast, vast majority of the time.
